...and why?

I'll admit I haven't checked out all the options yet, but I have glanced at most of them. I've decided to tentatively try the new Linden forums but I'll be setting down roots at SL Universe. There seems to be an active scripting and content community there and people seem friendly enough, although like everywhere else they need to get to know you first.

I'll try to at least check the cartel site weekly as well.

I will probably be leaving any forums or set-ups to replace the forums. I am turned off by the very name SLU which indicates a univesrity type conflabulation. So for me, these are my last few posts and threads. I wont even be around for the final days since I will be far away in real beyond the time and space of the internet (really isolated part of the real world where computer time is limited to essential services and needs). I will make a final post saying a genuine farwell and then any time I am on will be limited to an hour or two when I can see my partner Hal or - hopoefully - inyteract with people like yourselfs.

My bed will always be warm and my arms will always be ready to hold a lonely man (or woman).
Jiggy.

These forums, and not any others, have been part of my daily routine for over 3 years. I usually look at New Posts here before logging in world. When these forums are gone, I'm thinking on selling my mainland sim and going on to something else.

I'm going to try LL's replacement for the forums. They never owed us a particular kind of sofware and I always felt this was a legacy board.

I've always used these forums to get a general bead on the minds of SL residents. What is going on? Why?

These residents are passionate, in the know, and opinionated. In my books, these are all good things.

I have limited time to get a sense of things, so I enjoy skimming and sometimes thoroughly reading the concerns of others because they are likely my concerns as well.

The new forums may diminish my ability to effectively skim and read, so I can't say whether I'll transition there or not.

I've been hanging about SCII and find it enjoyable from both a learning and entertainment perspective. I rapidly skim or ignore what does not interest me, as I do here.

But again, SCII seems home to some passionate and outspoken persons. And that works.

At work it is really hard to view the SLU and SCII forums because of all those graphics. It seems it takes forever just to read a post. RA is/was perfect for viewing at work.

I'm moving to the cartel forums but I won't be forum cruising as much anymore, the new forums are to hard on the short posts to follow let alone a indepth conversation so they amount to a waste of time

I've already started to put down roots at SLUniverse. I've watched the Xstreet forums be destroyed by the change. It used to be a fun, interesting and mostly friendly place. Now it's dead, Jim. I think a forum community is a little more magical and delicate that people realize.

I don't post much, but I feel like a know you all and I will miss this. It has been part of my life for over 3 years. Wow.

I'll continue to post on the "official" forums in whatever format flavor they come in next. These forums, more than any others, are the "pulse" of what is going on in SL and if you need to keep your virtual finger on the pulse, this is where you monitor.

I'll also still hang at SLU. There are a lot of old friends there and probably the largest collection of other content creators outside of these forums. Again, finger on the pulse...

Going away. Returning to the Void.

I'll go back to find my social needs in-world, which is the whole point of being in SL to begin with.

I'll be helping and socializing with folks in-world more now. Probably for the best, anyway.

There are no replacements for this forum.

However, http://www.secondcitizen.net/ is a good place to hang one's hat.

SLU and SCII, and Plurk. Many of the folks are the same, overlapping or not or enemies even. Part of the fun ;). I'll miss this place here tho. I doubt the blogorums will be an option or alternative or anything close to a usable community like a real forum could offer.

On the positive side this means no more Katt alikes, Wallace or other managed conversations :)

Farewell SL forums!

You know you can customize your User CP?

In SLU, I choose "Blue SLU" that I find easy to read. I turn off avatars, signatures and images. I can also turn off advertisements on the side.

Should not make it much harder to read than this....

SCII - The people are nice and won't tolerate obvious trolling. I love the little chat box thing.

Because it is not a place that noobs generally would wander on into, there isn't, it seems to me, as much opportunity to help new folks and thus help each other at times learn things we would not have thought of asking. I will miss that very much.

I love this place, I love what I found here- my friends, my loves and just the general - overall good feelings of community. I always say I hate it when people leave- and now it seems we all are- ridden out on a rail - it hurts and i dont have to say more - i am sure all posting here feel it too.

It's been a rough few days SL wise with peeps - read about Ordinal, though I did not know her personally, a dear friend is contemplating leaving SL, others here I have read may just pack it all in. And now this - hell.

Still, I have to hope that the spark of SL won't fade away entirely for me. I have loved it now for so long, I hope to keep it alive, though sometimes I log in too and don't see much point. It just is such a downer right now..

/me ges find a quiet corner til she feels less maudlin.

As god-awful as that steaming pile of a blog-forum is, I'm tempted to go there at least for a while. Not because it deserves a chance; it's *had* "a chance" and it still sucks every bit as much as it did when it was first installed; all they've done is disable the crashiest of the buggy features.

No, it doesn't deserve a chance, but I'm not eager to retreat and let them off that easy.

If none of us post there, it's not as if the place will be empty: it will fill with the same breathlessly inarticulate Linden-worship that is Second Life Answers.

We have practice here, telling the unvarnished truth without getting ourselves suspended. I'm sure the Linden nannies and their Subcontinental hirelings will keep a more vigilant eye on the new place, but putting one over on them will be all the more entertaining for it.

Or I may pull an Ordinal and just vamoose from SL altogether. Increasingly, the thought has its appeal. On the other hand, I'm both lazier and more stubborn, so maybe not.

I'll be at Second Citizen and at the Forum Cartel forum.

slapt.me is good too, but so many more of my friends are at SC.

I've been thinking that it's probably better that a forum about SL *not* be hosted by LL. I'm always a little afraid of speaking my mind on the LL blog-thing.
