Hello, I am new to this game and was looking for an area where I can kill other players and take their possessions.

All I see so far is a very interesting and glorified Chat Room . . .

Please tell me there is more. I mean evil has its place in any world. Yet it seems that if you even irritate someone in this game you can get tagged by the cops. ie. Police Blotter or whatever it is.

Don't you get tired just being friends? I know that there is an economic side to this game. I like to make and sell weapons. Much of a market for that sort of thing here? I'm guessing no, although i do see a lot of 3-7 day suspensions for use of weapons in "safe" areas. I'm guessing these guys were willing to trade a bit of excitement for play time.

Tell me, what do aggressive people do here? Is a bad sale the only way you lose property?

What about this game gets your adrenaline pumping? And don't say "chair camping" or sex toys, umm kay, thx.

My first impression is that it has a lot of eye candy and that the game will be naturally complex on a social level. That is good. But, is there no enemy to fight, no land to conquest, no real competitions?

I would hope that there is intrigue amongst competing "corporate" entities.

I look forward to exploring the possibilities of this game but I need some ideas. Any help would be appreciated.

Also, I intend no disrespect to this game. I really think that it is amazing what SL has accomplished. But, is it for me?

Are there any unsafe areas?

I think you are butting up against the conceptual problem of coming to SL with expectations and experiences of other games.

It's not really a game at all - it's a world.

In that world you can play and make games - yes, people do PVP, make a sell weapons (they also surfboard, dance, make houses, run businesses, script, create avatars, clothing, gadgets, spend time roleplaying in atmospheric environments, explore their wilder sides... etc).

But none of it is structured for you as provided 'content'. Everything is created by the residents here.

If that sounds exciting, then you'll probably 'get it' and adjust and enjoy yourself. If not, you're probably looking for something else.

As for aggression - try either one of the fighting sims or getting into the land business

Hello, I am new to this game and was looking for an area where I can kill other players and take their possessions.

The closest you will get to that is to find one of the role playing games within this platform (yes, I'll say it as well, SL is not a game). There you can kill and loot things.

No, there is no enemy to fight, no land to conquest, no competition (other than business), because those are game elements. There are no level ups, no power ups, no hidden levels or quests to unlock.. no princess to save, no skill points to earn... not that a game could not be created within SL that had all those, just that that is entirely not the point of SL itself.

That is a question that only you can answer for yourself. I think that SL might not be what you thought it was, but this does not mean you couldn't come to love it for what it is. :)

There are unsafe areas. That is a status set on land (I am unsure if it must be set for a whole sim, or if it can be set by parcel) by the owner. If you are killed in one, you get teleported back to your home point. This is a feature that can be used in creating a game within this platform.

No.

Few people are aggressive 24/7, so people find a variety of things to do. There are plenty of roleplay sims where you can act out aggression, within the rules. It's just that there are many more where that's against the rules.

Also, there are places that are "safe" in the technical sense (i.e. guns don't cause damage that is tracked by the SL software), but where you can still have combat using third-party combat systems.

I suggest searching places for "weapons." You'll find plenty of SL stores selling weapons, and other customers willing to talk about their favorite places to play.

You can also take out your aggression by having sex. Plenty of that going on in SL.

SL is not a game and threatening to kill people (i.e. players) is a crime in most countries.

Many other places you can go to kill and loot - this is not the primary persona of SL.

You can find some RPG sims that afford such opportunities for you though, Search is your friend.

Well, at least you are honest! I'm sure many people will appreciate your taking the time to try to find appropriate places for these activities rather than just going around and randomly blasting people away. I appreciate it, anyway.

It does sound like roleplaying sims where damage is turned on are the ones for you (damage enabled areas have a little heart and a percentage of health displayed at the top of the screen). Of course you don't really kill people, they just get sent home. But it's close enough.

I agree with one of the other posters - search for other weapons stores or weapons testing areas and chat with people there to find out where you could go. In my limited experience it sure seems that people who have guns and stuff like to talk about them!

As far as taking people's possessions - you could get into the land trade! ;)

Caz,

You cannot "kill" someone in SL as in the sense of other online games.

What happens when you "kill" someone is that they get sent "home", which, if they own land and have set their home to that land, is there. Otherwise it is the nearest welcome center.

Also note that you cannot "kill" in areas that have damage turned off (i'ld estimate 95-98% of SL). Trying to kill people in no damage areas just annoys folks, they file an abuse report against you, you get kicked out of SL.

The combat locations that you are looking for:
- the sims of Jessie & Rausch spring to mind.
- Then there are Red & Blue (anyone know if these still exist?). You join one team or the other in a constant war.
- If you are into Sci Fi, there are a few combat areas for them (not full sims). Tatooine springs to mind, but as others have said, this is a full Role Play area. You will be expected to abide by the RP rules
- Carnage Island is another good place to go kill things.

There are others... this is merely what springs to mind this moment.

Your other inquiry about taking other peoples belongings.... this doesn't happen in SL. Period. The best you could hope for is someone to rez it in world an object with permissions set to allow to to take a copy, or buy the object at zero cost. Either way, YOU don't get the option to "take" it... whether you get it or not is entirely up to the owner of the item.

The only thing I would add to this thread, is just the recommendation you use Search a lot. Find a lot of new places to go that you enjoy. Don't break the rules, written or unwritten, while you are in someone else's land parcel. After a few weeks of doing this exploration, you will certainly find fun things to do and fun people to do it with.

That's GOT to be the best polite request for help ever. :)

You're in luck - there is a huge market for scripted weapons. And yes, there are plenty of unsafe areas where you can go and fight - search for "combat zones". If you buy some land of your own, you can set up a combat zone for yourself, too. Using weapons is a crime if the other people don't want to fight, but many people do.

The Second Life built-in combat system is rather simple, though, and also it's a bit unbalanced. Since you can make weapons that do anything you like, some people have made weapons that just hunt you down and kill you instantly no matter what you do. So as an alternative, some users have created their own entire combat systems that work in different ways.

Plus, of course, there's games available in-world to take your aggression out on. How about Tech Warfare, where you can run around dropping little tank robots that shoot your opponent? Or BattleMace (I think it's called) where you can, um, hit people with a battle mace (someone who knows it help me out here! ;) ) I know certainly there are martial arts and katana duelling systems..

Basically follow what others have said here. Second Life is designed to be a world for everyone and as a result, it can't be based on fighting or people who do not want to fight would have nothing to do. But that does not mean that there is no fighting - it's all around if you look for it. :) (Oh, and as for industrial espionage, it probably exists in SL but isn't really a good thing :) )

Very well said Merlin, thats a great description of SL. Great way to know if this is the kind of "game" for someone too. :)

The Major evil monsters in SL are

LAG

and

DRAMA

both are highly dangerous - no noob should face them alone. they are also impossible to defeat , each portion you defeat spawns 2 others.

The stuff you can steal consists of Freebies and badly done items. SInce you can hold unlimited Inventory - Quanitity is key.

Dont be fooled - other residents are not to be trusted. They are the ones who cause lag and drama.

You guys are great! Thank you for your responses.

I don't like griefing, and it seems, from the responses that there is a lot of opportunity to PvP.

I will consider what you have said and explore a bit more. Seems like this is a "world" that can fit most peoples gaming needs.

I find it intriguing that ya'll don't view it as a game. Seems to me that SL has a lot of strategy to it and it can become almost anything you want it to be. I will probably just keep playing Eve Online due to the fact that it has many of the open ended attributes that I value and the ability to gain realestate through conquest. But, if I stay, it will be because of the wonderful responses I got to my post. I am very impressed with the answers I received here.

Take care all.

Welcome to SL.

Ok, ebveryone pointed out there Are Comabt zones you can Battle i,. True enough. as to the second part of your requirement, there is no mechanism in world that allows you (Legally) to seize another persons property. I have heard of some scripted items designed to steal peoples Money, but using them is a Violation of CS, and TOS, and will get you Banned from the Grid.
You might want to try one of the Many Hand to Hand Combat arenas available where Monitary prizes can get quite large, and the Outside Arena Betting gets quite Lively.

As others have Observed, SL is definately NOT a game. it's a fairly complete On Line World where most anything is Possible. Expand your Horizons past the Other On Line games, and explore a Little more of your potential here.

Again, Welcome to SL, and i Hope you have an enjoyable time.

Angel.

Real Life is a game , its kind of like Second Life

Except that there are more rules, It costs a heck of a lot more.

And makes even less sense.

Hey HG, have you checked out Tech Warfare which won the 2006 SL games expo as the best new game?

This game is excellent...check out Hamlet's review http://nwn.blogs.com/nwn/2006/05/the_art_of_tech.html

****************************************

HUD (heads up display) - If you use the game HUD all you need to do is click buttons!
COMMANDS (only work if choose not to use HUD) = build, bot, tower, factory, dialog on, dialog off. This game uses a.i., very advanced scripting and makes it fun for 1 vs 1 or 16 vs 16 players.

(Easy to use HUD that has option for 3 different views)

***Info on why this game is so cool***

Pay the red or blue box whatever the fee is. Zoom in to the text above the "READY" buton to see the fee.

To change teams just touch the other team's "PAY HERE" box.
Get your HUD (heads up display) by clicking the Give HUD button.
RT click your HUD in inventory and choose wear.
You can resize and move the HUD or flip it over for a more compact version.
When everybody has hit the "READY" button the game will start. (will no longer be able to change teams)

An object will follow you that shows you your health bar and how much energy you have.
You get energy to build more as time progresses.

Touch the buttons on the HUD to summon your robots.
If you chose the "Dialog On" option, Dialog buttons will pop up and you click them to make things.

If you click "Ignore" you can bring the dialogs back by saying "build".
All items are created where you are standing.
Game pieces control themselves so placement and choice are your weapons.

Watch the health bar!
If you die you have to wait for the next game to play!

***HOW TO PLAY***

The object of the game is to destroy the enemy base and defend yours.
Games can be up to 16 vs 16 players!
Energy is increased for the team with fewer players.
You can build between the bases and more than 10 meters from the enemy base.
Some units only attack land or air bots. (missiles = AIR, Cannon = LAND)
All units can attack factories and towers.
Bots will head tward the enemy base and attack whatever they can on the way.
If you choose to use dialogs then you can bring up different menus with the commands - build, bot, factory, tower.
You can build a unit by saying its case sensitive name.
If you wanted to you could assign different hotkeys to bot names or menus using edit/gestures.

People can still join during the countdown.

Energy is required to summon robots.
If your health reaches 0% you will be killed and will have to wait for the next game to play.

To summon robots just say the commands - build, bot, tower and factory.
You will get a menu that allows you to pick what you want.

When you create robots they will come to your position then automatically head to the enemy base.

This game is the wave of the future using HUDs and A.I. in Second Life...basically in laymen's terms this game PwNz!
