Phil, firstly, if people read into virtual addiction anything claiming I was addicted well, I'm honestly sorry. That had more to do with a friend of mine in real whose husband's addiction to another on-line world has ended in mortal tragedy. I coloured it "jig=pink" to make it slightly more palatible and prefer anonymity. That is totally honest.

This blackmail thread is not about me although I always use myself as an example first cos I admit I am a sinner. Many peopel here seem to be sunday school teachers considering what shocks them. It doesnt take very much. I'm not exactly certain what the peopel in this life ever talk about. Particularly the forumeers. Pasionate shadows and windlight windy days?

What I discuss or thread is not that strange. Well, its not in my world. "Can you imagine getting blackmailed or in trouble for what you do if you're caught or if your "flavour fo the month" partner is a piss-artist isnt that earth-shattering. I admit my relative youthfulness may be an issue. I have been warned "Just you wait till you grow up and hit menopause" so many times by forumite I am getting a picture of a bunch of wannabes.

Yeah, I liek storring it up. And seriously, have you ever thought that we may get blackmailed here or even bribed? This is not an apology nor is it a whine. It's a "Jig shakes her head at the moral majority and plans another thread" reply.

You realize you could just as easily apply your "easy solution" to reading, or even replying to critical posts? That commercial is way older than I thought it was. All the way back to the 1960's. But, evidently it's still being run to this day. Anyway that is what I thought of when I posted what I posted. Well, I don't think I've ever been blackmailed on SL before.

It happens a lot in the forums, though. Once when I was lagged out while visiting SL4B (I think), Immy took an evil photo that she keeps holding over my head. Nothing -bad- really, just...very wrong. Oh, so very wrong.

No, I haven't been blackmailed because I don't do anything or put myself in a position to be blackmailed. I do wonder how much in lindens is constitutes "blackmail" money. Perhaps the psychological value makes it worth it but it seems that is much ado about nothing.

In other words "huge waste of time" IMHO.

to really be blackmailed i would first of all have to value what someone else thinks of what i do more than i value what i think of what i do and then i would have to be willing to compromise my freedom to do what i like when i like. and as i have told a few of my partners in the past, if some madman walks in my rl room and holds a gun to my head and says click the X or die, well, he's just out the cost of a bullet. yea... i'd usually rather break than bend. so would my partner, and that makes things very interesting at times, but if she weren't as contrary and stubborn as i am i don't think we'd work.

Can't say that I've been part of any blackmail schemes, and most likely won't, but I've certainly been the subject of many incriminating photos I'd have to agree that giving in to a little self-serving blackmail can be exciting, depending on the scenario and stakes of course... and also who the "perpetrator" is lol.

I've never been blackmailed, but oh boy, I COULD be. My partner is a habitual taker of pictures during, er, intimate moments. Good thing I'm not rich.

But seriously, people. If anyone DOES try to blackmail you in SL, remember two things.

1. You are anonymous. If you REALLY have to, you can ditch your account and start over with an alt.

2. A person who WON'T be blackmailed, CAN'T be blackmailed. (Robert A. Heinlein). Tell the bugger "publish and be damned to you".
