From: Avalon Barzane Rebaking, clearing cache etc etc. didn't work for me. I am running two Nvidia 7800's in SLI mode having the second card handle texture etc. It didn't like that. I just use one vid card and the problem is gone. Are you running SLI? If so turn off the second card and see what happens... that is if the problem re-appears as I see you have it solved.

I did explore different settings in SLI and the problem remained but... I didn't try everything :] Maybe there is a happy medium somewhere. I did notice that when in SLI mode (512megs of video) SL still only recognized 256megs in the preferences. Good luck!
