My question in the first reply to your post is still unaswered.

There are many active RP sims, what exactly are you looking for, which language do you prefer?

Basically the same as before, really. Keep strong scissors handy, and this time, also make sure that you can move your hands in a way that makes cutting the rope possible.

One thing that I learned not too long ago: DON'T FALL ASLEEP WHILE TIED!

It risks losing circulation which you may not know until it's too late and you can cause serious, lasting damage this way.

Also, if you're new to it, be sure to tie two or three knots against the skin. It allows a little more play room before the rope risks pinching your skin.

If you're going to be immobilizing yourself, keep the phone on the floor where you can push a button to dial 911 with your tongue if you have to.

Always remember, safety first. Learn your knots, if something feels wrong, don't do it, and don't try to dive into the deep end. You'll end up in an embarrassing position shouting for help and being found by your one uber-christian neighbour who used to love you, but will now be ashamed of you. That's just the way the world works.

ETA:: I'd post a link to a few technique guides for self bondage, but I think that would break the rules here a bit more than I'm willing to atm XD

As ive gotten older (and wiser? ....naaa) I now tend to just use ringed cuffs (with cumfy felt lining!) for rope play. Still remember one guy wanting to tie me up with plastic twine (the type you get at home depot to tie down your 2 x 4's) ... and let me tell you.. that was unpleasant.

Type of rope is important, Manila and Sisal are bad, they are very rough and can give you slivers and nasty abrassions... Also dont like polypropylene as it tends to be slippery and hard to get a good knot to hold. Nylon is nice, but its very strong rope and can be hard to cut in an emergency. I find the best is good old Cotton Sash cord... its soft and flexible and is easy to cut... plus is a nice creamy white colour so looks good in the snaps.

As Aleco said, there are many, many, many kinds of roleplay in SL. You might want to narrow it down to what theme you want. Do you want Wild West, Steam Punk, Gothic, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Post Apocalypse, Fantasy or Hack n' Slash?

Otherwise, run roleplay through the search all and bear a scorching of tons.

NEVER create a situation where here is a constricting loop around your neck unless you have someone THERE who is immediately able to free you, and even then you shouldn't.

I was doing some VERY rough numbers the other day.

SL has a concurrency of 66,000, give or take. The Second Life Children group has 685 members. It's a huuuuuuuuuuuuuge leap of logic, but would put kid avvies around 1% of the SL population.

I wish it were closer to true, of course, but I know just how big a leap that is. :-)

Steampunk isn't quite fraught with the dangers of cutting off circulation, public humiliation &c. The general reaction is: oh cool!

Certainly, no need to dial 911 with your tongue either.

You might want to make sure any steam boilers you may have aren't going to superheat and explode like a Mississippi riverboat, but that's about it. Sometimes the gears can be a little sharp, too.

If your uberchristian neighbour caught you, they would probably fall in love with it and be wearing neovictorian clothing and brass goggles in no time.

Thus embarrassing *you*...

By far the three most popular role-plays on SL are also the three most important: innocent childplay; sex; and BDSM.

They're the most popular because they're "high concept". Everyone knows what a child is. Everyone knows about sex by the age they're in SL. And many people at least know that the whole S&M thing exists, even if they've only seen it in a parody cartoon in a newspaper and they think anyone involved is a disgusting pervert. Because of this, they don't need to be put into "roleplaying sims" - they can, and do, roam the entire world.

They're important because of the attitudes they embody. Innocent Childplay embodies experimenting and playfulness which is a fantastic attitude to SL, in fact many of the resis who enjoy SL most have this attitude even if they don't actually use a kid avatar.

Sex is important because it is a social (as opposed to antisocial) concept that everyone understands and yet still has a good reason to be in a virtual world (the club/party scene has the problem that you could just go and party with your friends in the real world; but most people wouldn't want to be a real stripper and certainly wouldn't want to have regular sex with strangers).

BDSM is important because, in addition to the rules about sex above, it is one of two ways by which a person can make antisocial fantasies become social, and so live them out with others on SL. (The other way is combat or other games, but a) that's not a "role", and b) it isn't guaranteed to work for everyone involved, because it's entirely possible that someone could lose every game). It doesn't take very much to make a fantasy antisocial once you trace out all the effects it would have upon the world, so this is important.

Beyond that and into the regimented RP sims, sure enough, the most popular ones are the ones that are based on popular real world concepts that everyone knows, thus making it easier to socially connect. Victoriana and Steampunk Victoriana are popular because they're either a) real history or b) historical behaviour but with modern technology that looks a bit different; and thus, although behaviour standards were different, people were still basically people, and people still know where they are. Star Trek, Star Wars, Harry Potter are all popular because they're well known - although they're almost certainly illegal.

In seriousness too, Even when a RP sim is advertised as "dark sex roleplay" etc most allow you to put your limits in your profile so no one is forced into a situation they are uncomfortable with.

Role Play is supposed to be fun for both parties and 99% of people will not try and push your limits.

All you have to do is put in "No Sex play" in your profile and thats it... it may limit the amount of peiple who will interact with you but at least you get to play in some awesome sims, and will probly find some like minded people to play with after a while.

Be sure to use soft ropes, to avoid rope burns and bad scratching (Can drive you fricking crazy if stuck tied too long).

I still prefer hemp rope, but it needs to be treated. Here is one method:

A quick google will give you all the advice you can handle about using hemp ropes.

Rope "suits" that still allow free movement are a big turn on for me. Lots of places to get a good handhold ...

One thing that I learned not too long ago: DON'T FALL ASLEEP WHILE TIED!

It risks losing circulation which you may not know until it's too late and you can cause serious, lasting damage this way.

That is both funny and scary.

Loss of circulation is a big problem, especially around any fatty tissues. Hips, thighs, belly and the grand dame of all ... the fun bags. Blood flow is poor in fatty tissue in normal cases. Even short term constriction can lead to tissue narcrosis (it dies) which then forms hardened lumps. Even men should know that lumps in the breasts are a bad thing. In short, don't tie up the tits.

My advice for anyone starting down this path. Start slow, be safe, play with a 100% trusted partner and do a little web homework to learn best practices.

Safe, Sane, Consensual. It's become the creed for a reason.

Oh, I am very familiar with his site :)

Another good resource are the You-Tube videos by "Two Knoty Boys." They have a more contemporary look than ds-arts.

Forgive me, but I am not going to look up links while at work  lol

I love PotO. I even own the original version on record. (Well...the first version to be available on record. I'm sure it was done on stage long before that)

Only seen it live twice though...

Know every single word too.

I prefer cotton, always.... I'm very tactile, and even treated rope rubbing against my skin is absolutely horrid for me. Gives me goosebumps, and then when I move at all the goosebumps get worse, until they become painful. One of those things that I simply can't handle.

If cotton isn't available, either linen or nylon is my choice.

Cotton and nylon slip rather easily though, so for beginners, be sure to tie an extra knot to keep it from coming undone around you.

Dear.. we have seen the results of your dares... Mac in a dress is not nearly as horrific as my boss finding out what lurks in the shadows..

Or - on the other hand... if I sent him an anonymous invite to join SL... hehe... your Evil is contagious, you know.
