Disagree. The different threads have different points of view and where started from out different ideas.

And the OP already shown how in favour he is of age verification.... Maybe he cannot stand that so many people are against it? Ah well, he already made clear that he thinks that everyone who is against is most likely a minor.... *shrugs*

Uuuummm cause I am betting that its true perhaps! lol. I am not saying all the people but I would bet a good % are minnors and are now ticked off cause they will have a hell of a time getting around this to get back in. And to be honest why else complain about it? So they want the last 4 of my SSN, big deal. You know how many web sites out there these days use age verification now... Alot. Too many kids in areas they don't belong like Second Life. I would worry more about what the goverment is doing with your personal data then I would Second Life getting the last 4 of your SSN. Or better yet... How many times a day do you swip your credit card or ATM card? Alot I am betting. Your chances of getting hit there are alot higher then SL.

The fact of the matter still stands... The only reason I think people are bitching is one of these reasons:

1. They are a child and know their busted now
2. They are REALLY borded and need something to bitch about
3. They like little kids (Sick'os)
4. They just like drama
5. They think everyone is out to get them

The more I think about this the more disturbing I find some of the people in SL. Like the ones bitching that they cracked down on age play.... WTF.. AGE PLAY! Hate me if you want to.... but thats sick. There are some sick minds out there. If I was the F.B.I. I would be all over that doing some profiles.

I think alot of good will come from this. I know its going to make using bots a hell of alot harder. I think SL is doing this move for more then just age verification and its all positive.

You really don't understand anything about it, don't you. Maybe you should REALLY READ the threads and see what concerns they have....

I have and its old.... SL has issues we all know that but some of you are going WAYYYY over board on this. Not that it matters, its going to happen. I guess if your not a minnor then you have nothing to worry about.... Do you?

Voodoo from what I read most people are in favour of age verification. I think the concern is the level of information required and what implications the new system will have inworld. If someone was simply annoyed they couldn't get porn anymore I'd have to ask if they actually use the internet at all beyond visiting these pages, I mean its rife!

I had some questions but found no grown up replies to them so I'm going to wait and see if LL will shed a little more light in the near future.

It will keep people away... not because of the age verification, because I am convinced more then 95% of the verified account (payment info) are adults. But because of the security issues that may arise and some people take their privacy high because they don't want without reason that their personal data/history is checked.... and yes, it does happen (see other thread),

As for stopping bots, that's about the stupidest thing I've heard so far. Bots are children now?
Let's see shall we.
1) Bot owner verifies their account.
2) Verification covers their alts.
3) Bot = verified.

Not that verification means anything to bots. A bot doesn't need to enter adult flagged land to scan items or buy the land.

Plenty of people have valid reasons for not handing their personal information to a 3rd party known to sell personal information. Where's your valid reasoning for why SL should require more personal information than the hardest xxx sites for no added benefit? This will not stop any kids entering the main grid.

Ok but it comes to a point of either you go with the flow of the internet or you don't. As I said... There is alot of sites starting to do this ageverification now. I forget which thread it was but somebody had even listed some. This is something just like everything else on the net that is new and becoming popular like it or not. Now if this was just SL doing it then I might agree more due to their track record of throwing things out before they really work and are fully tested however they have clearly stated that its a third party thats doing the age verification. I would feel better if they would say who but I am guessing that information is coming soon. There are companies out there that do this and its all they do. They have it down solid. In a way I think this is silly that we are even talking about it. Your information in this day and age is stored everywhere on computers!

And what is going to happen is that a large percentage of the people who make the most contribution to SL are going to pack up and leave - why? Because these are also the people who have the most to lose in RL from identity theft. This will particularly apply to non-US citizens, who are going to revolt over the idea of handing sensitive personal data to some foreign (i.e. US) company.

You are going to see a sudden exodus of talent from SL. This is serious, believe me.

It is not about age-verification. Most people have no problem with that all.

It is way how it is done. The kind of verification that will be added will give northing more as credit card verification, because if some kid who really wants to cheat on it it will be just as simple as it did with the CC of his/her parents.

And yes, I know my mail-address is out there on they Internet. But matters as my pasport-information, Sofi-number (Dutch version of the SS-number) is not.

And with all the problems with leaking information, hacking of systems with bad security, people who loose laptops and usb-sticks with highly confidential information all the time, that kind of information better stays away from there.

It is not with out reason people are often warned NOT to transmit that kind of data over the Internet.....

So you're "betting" that age verification will be on an avatar basis?
Have you forgotten that avatars do not hold social security numbers, driving licenses or passports?
The verification will be of the real people behind the avatars, so if you verify that person on one account, you've verified them on their alts as well.

To address your previous post about "going with the flow of the internet". Hmmmm, I am responsible for the running of 5 sites, with staff interests in others, totalling 100,000+ users. Each site has its own way of doing things and its own rules. Each of the sites is in direct opposition to certain other sites on the net. There is no "flow", that's what makes the net interesting rather than a massive lump of identical sites. Just because a beer site uses this age verification doesn't mean all sites do.
And a beer company has more need for personal information and less need for age verification than a hardcore porn site. That should tell you something about why they choose that company to handle their verification, and why porn sites dont.

Yes Mandy... that kind of "normal information" is all over the internet, but we are talking here about other kind of information that will be sent over the Internet.... and oh, yes that info is also stored on computers (government alike).... but that is complete something different as my simple computer with a simple security software that will sent it through a https connection to a company (the third party, not sl) I have complete no information about and which their own website makes me frown upon their trustworthly...
