"USD" dollars on your LL account are not USD dollars of the real life, because LL
have no obligations whatsoever to return them to you.
SL apologetics experience of converting LL USD dollars into real money entirely depends on LL mercy. Let me remind you, that Anshe Chung account was banned a year ago (and thus unaccessable for transferting out any money, real or unreal) while she had 50K+ USD positive balance against LL.

Well I tried to transfer just over a 1000US$ to my paypal account on the 17th March. Six days later the payment is back in my linden account with the 1 US$ processing fee and the word denied was the only explanation given.
This makes no sense as there was a transfer requested in January of more than this amount and that went through fine. I think I may have to ask purchasers to start paying direct to my paypal account in US$ if Lindens cannot be trusted.

I do not know the legal side of this thread but I do feel that if Lindens advertising states you can make real money and have a real income which it does extensively then they must be trustworthy when that money is being processed, and a much more informative reason needs to be given as to why a transfer was denied than just that word. Before anybody says have you clicked on Details yes I have, again nada, denied the only explanation.

The big companies like Toyota and IBM and others will not accept denied as an explanation.

It took I think nine or so working days, but a credit process *finally* cleared for me. I have a history of processes going back to December so I doubt I was any big risk, but it just took a lot longer than usual.

The moral? Don't expect to cash out in a hurry. Maybe they need the interest to hold your USD a few days more.

I wouldn't mind nine working days if I knew I was actually going to have it transferred. But to have it denied with no rhyme or reason that is what I find real worrying. Now I am left wondering if there is something I have inadvertently done wrong, and from previous experience do not have much hopes of receiving a sensible rapid response.

Plus if this starts happening regularly to me or others then the obvious course is to take US$ payments only, directly into our paypal or bank accounts which can only start to harm the validity of the L$ with detrimental effects to the game.

Exactly.

I initiated my transfer on 14 March 2007 to zero my USD balance with Linden Labs. I pay my fees with credit card, which is different from the PayPal.
10 days later the transfer was denied and part of it used to pay small land fee.
No explanation was given whatsoever.
I live in civilized society (not US) where you can expect your transactions being executed in orderly manner and supermarkets do not check people pockets when people payed on the checkout.

So, it is the factual confirmation that LL feel that they are not obiged to return you any real money even you have a positive balance. As soon as you put your real money to LL, they can be gone.

These were Paypal transactions.

Has anyone considered Paypal denied the transaction?

Yes Linden Labs should spell out what Denied meant. However I have not read the Denial information response to know.

Hmm.. I wonder if those who are having problems live in other countries? Or maybe they are transfering sums deemed too large to handle by Paypal?

If a deposit to the Paypal account was denied, you may want to get on Paypal's case about it. That doesn't sound like a Linden Lab issue, but either way, you'd have a better chance of getting in contact with Paypal than LL, Femina.

Have you tried calling LL to find out why it was denied? A friend of mine had something very similar happen to one of her cash-outs last week. She called LL, got a reply within 5 minutes, and everything got sorted out.

(It turns out that LL had noticed her IP address was in the UK, whereas the postal address she'd given when she originally registered her SL account was a US address - she's cashed out many times in the past without this being questioned; I would guess the anti-fraud checking at LL has got stricter in recent weeks.)

These were Paypal transactions.

Has anyone considered Paypal denied the transaction?

The transaction was not denied on PayPal side, as in the same time I converted some L$ and transferred USD via PayPal on one of third party exchanges in a few seconds (to test it).
LL do not give an option for transfers out rather than PayPal or cheque.
(but they happy to take out your real money from credit card or other forms, which is typical attitude for small boiler room operators).

well large operations generally only pay you by check.

In my experience they will do direct depositis if you are going to be having reccuring deposits.

They will credit your credit card only if they charged you in error or the merchandise was returned (it costs a merchant money I beleive to credit a credit card.)

Admitedly the check fee is rather high.

It definitely does not say why the transaction was denied so you have no way to know if Linden Labs tried to send it and couldnt, or they decided not to, etc.

This should be fixed I think. If its paypal refusing the deposit It shoudl say that. IF its some LL anti fraud thing it should say that. If they have some doubt about your in world activities it should say that.

I hope the reason wasnt becuase your Linden Labs bill came due. That would really seem a poor system. As in

-User requests $100 process credit Monday
-Users' bill comes due wednesday for $25
-LL denies the $100 Process becuase you "owe them $25"

Pure speculation of course. But curious that they denied your transaction then billed you out of that same money.

Well as I said I was paid a higher sum in January with out problems and lower sums last year.
As regards calling Paypal if you read my post yes I did call Paypal and they could find no record of the transaction in which case it never left the US shores and is now back in my account.
Yes I live in another country, the UK ,and this should make no difference, it hasn't before. As regards the US not being civilized well sorry, I cannot agree with that at all. Neither can I say Linden Labs is uncivilised I can suggest based on this incident that my faith and trust in them is way down and I am waiting anxiously to be able to call the States after 9.00am PST. There again you would think in a global market you would have a 24 hour service to contact not a 9-4 PST one
I can only presume there has been a hiccup after all I am not being denied service and am logged in since the account return of my money. All I am being denied is my transfer.

Is the paypal account in question a verified account?

Mine is verified against my bank account. Credit came through *eventually* not denied. I did have one held up because I had to say I'd read some warning from Paypal about holding a certain amount of funds there, and that was delaying the transaction until I confirmed it.

I cashed out a largish sum and received confirmation from LL on 3/15 that if everything went well the amount would be transferred to my PayPal account (from which LL has several times drawn funds). I do live overseas, but am an American citizen, have American bank accounts, and my PayPal account is Verified and Premium.

Nothing so far from LL.

I tried calling LL today to follow-up. Thank goodness for Skype--I'm overseas, remember. Upon reaching LL, I was informed that people were waiting on the average "five or six minutes." After 45 minutes I was disconnected. I got to hear how important my call was, though, for more total time than I got to listen to elevator music. Maybe I'll try calling again in a few days.

It is amazing to see number of naive people here who belive that linden dollars have intrinsic value and SL has real economy.

http://www.getafirstlife.com

And it appears you are one of them, after all you are trying to take money out of this economy.

Also, you are very rude.
The people who have been responding to your posts are being helpful and it has been fully explained to you why there is nothing you can do about it.
BUt all you do in return is be rude.

I just had a thought.

If you dont like how LL handles this you could always sell your lindens using SLexchange.
I hear they have much better customer support.

I believe (I am not a lawyer) the 'delay' could be linked to the actual cashflow of LL. People pay into the system (partially used to keep the system up and running), convert it into 'monopoly money' make it grow from rezzing free prims, and then take USD's in 'profit' from LL.
There is no obligation from what I see, for LL to act as an investment platform, converting 'currencies', by LL. I do forsee however the need for this to become more 'legalised' as outward investors come into game, which would require recognition from taxation offices, stock markets and countries, throughout the world. Not a viable proposition at the moment. This is why so many Corporates have yet to set budgets for any real viable expenditure without a full revenue transaction pathway. It's a chicken and egg situation, one which only LL can drive. You have to ask yourself, why they would want this additional layer of business?

As long as they want their 3% for changing L$ in my inworld wallet into $USD on my SL account, I think it's in their interests to let me get that out.

Otherwise I'd sell my L$ for $USD on eBay or some other third party. Then it becomes (literally) none of their business :)

1. LL can ban you (seller) and the buyer can be penalized by 150% of the sum.
This is explicitely written in their so called "Risk API".
2. All third party exchanges have to use "Risk API" and it monitos every transaction in undisclosed manner.
3. Also, third party exchanges are enforced to place trading limits to ensure that all newcomers feed LL scheme.
4. More, as you can see in posts here, LL can reverse USD transfers even after L$ converted to (LL) USD.

LL PR volunteers feel free to comment and say that I am rude by revealing facts to the public.

My own experience
04-05-2007 02:51
May I add my own experience ?

I am trying to build my own business in Second Life. I've had a few customers, received aroud 75$ US in value, sold 3$ on Lindex, and tried to cashout 1$ +1$ fee to Paypal. Atter 7 business days, received a denied statement, with no explanation.

So, all businessmen/women in SL should be angry because their wealthness rely on new people with new ideas like me.

First, the 0-5 days delay is false, lies. You must read 7 days or more. What kind of honesty if a groccer promises you that you will be delivered within 5 days and the eggs come pourished long after? The honesty is saying that it is a seven days wait (or more) and you decide what to do by your own.

Second, denied with no explanations is repellant for businness. It's like trying to sell art paintings in a no-light room.

Third, my credit card information is now erased from LL panel. Why is it erased ? Does it have something to do with the denying? Who did this erasure? Should I give the information once more ?

I have also sent e-mails to LL concerning what I am planning to do (please don't ask) and the delay is 5 days. It makes 2 days now, will tell you.

What about Paypal certified, business and so on, really I don't care. That's nonsense. It's not stated anywhere that you should be "something" when requesting a cashout.

Of course, I am very near of surrender ! I do not care about the 75 $ I will let to LL, it's nothing for me, just trying a new business, it is current expenses. What more important is that I will rejoin the numerous people on the net who think and proclaim that SL has reached a gradation that will transform in a severe depression if lack of confidence grows in the way they handle money and treat their customers.
