Cancel Account - before getting charged

Who knows if it's possible to cancel an account before they charge your card?

Basically I signed up last night after using a free account for 3 weeks. Well I don't like the name I picked, so I wanted to change it. After researching, I found you can't change it because your name is almost like your SSN in RL.

I want to cancel that account and pay for this new account I created. How can I do that? I was going to call the Billing Dept. but it was past 6pm PST, and I couldn't find the number.

PLEASE HELP!

Ummm...you didn't answer my question at all. You wasted time commenting on my name. I like this name, but I found a better one, that means something to me.

Anyone care to comment on my question?

However, to answer your question, contact customer service in the morning to see if they can assist you. Otherwise, you can use it as an alt and collect the L$, the membership usually pays for itself anyways.

Makes sense, but I want to have this new account fully functional and buying land and building it with this account.

Hi iPhone, please don't get too offended by the humor, we just like to have fun sometimes.

Part of the reason we can't be too helpful is that you already know what to do -- call the Billing Department -- and that we know from experience that it probably won't work.

Sadly, it is pretty hard to actually get a live person when calling Billing. You might be on hold for 15 minutes, only to be told that you must leave a message, and they generally don't respond to or act on the message that you leave.

I would suggest doing the hold thing so that you can leave a message, but that you should also call again to see if you can get a live person. How often and how many times is up to you. If your time is valuable, spending six hours on hold may not be worth the $72 you're trying to recoup.

And it is also very possible that they won't cancel it even if you do get a hold of them.

On the bright side, there is nothing stopping you from making the second account premium too (if your credit limit or funds allow it). Out of the $6 you pay per month on the annual premium plan, you get about $4 - $4.50 of it back in lindens. And if you make a group with your two accounts and donate both of their 512 tiers to it, you get a 10% bonus and can hold 1126 without paying extra tier (just make sure you keep both the avs in your group -- if you go down to just one member, it will get disbanded and you'll lose your land).

i did the same exact thing. i was in "account downgrading" mode until the 30 days passed. i cuoldn't even decide to reupgrade until the 30 days passed, which meant i cuold not buy land or other such things either.

sorry to say you are stuck for the amount of days you paid for. and yes, they ARE paid for. you can't stop it.

Important point .

If you decide to cancel your premium now, you won't be able to actually make much use of your tier (you won't be able to buy any land), nor could you move to estate land since it won't let you buy that either until you revert back to basic a year from now.

I found myself in just this situation. It nearly cost me a very large land deal. I was able to get my premium account cancellation nullified in a matter of minutes once I was able to talk to a live billing person.

Better to keep the account until one or two days before renewal fees are due.

I would bite the bullet and remain in world with the original name. You could always make an alt, form a group, and give the alt permissions on the land and objects the premium avi buys. Then use the alt as your main in world persona.

Better yet, make an alt and buy land off of the mainland where premium account status is not needed. You will probably be happier there anyway unless you like ad farms. You will keep getting 300L$ a week from Mr. Ihax in any case.

Oh, one thing I neglected to mention, iPhone...
