New Continent is ONLINE!

Yep, the new continent has been started, with 17 sims being auctioned today! I took a look around, and it seems to be similar in shape to the Southern continent (lots of rolling, mostly level land rather than lots of waterways as in the northern continent.) However, it seems as if there is a lack of Linden roads... is LL planning to do away with even roads in new sims? I do hope that it will have at least some cool Linden locations like the original continent, and less like the commercial wasteland of the southern

Does this mean I can buy my first land soon? : (

I don't bother following the land market nowadays, but out of interest, when LL auction off a sim, is the price in line with today's extortionate pricing or does it cost the same to buy a sim today as it did a year ago from LL?

The current value is lower, but then there is still more then a day left on the auctions. You will have to wait and see if the lower prices stay when the auctions close. I have a feeling that the price of land is slowly coming down.

Apparently not: First Land Program to End

No more First Land. I didn't expect that...no warning. There are going to be some serious angry players.

I can see why they have abolished first land but it sucks that all those new residents that have been waiting for first land to become available, are now not going to get it. They should of arranged it so that anyone who signs up for a premium account as of today, doesn't get the option of buying first land and allowed all new residents already in world awaiting first land to pick up a 512sqm plot on the new continent. Rekon theres gonna a whine fest over this.

Ideally, they'd allow a period for eligable existing residents to request First Land, then have it assigned to them as it was back in the day. That way there'd be no valid feeling of missing entitlement from current newbies. Then once that's done, First Land could be officially closed.

But for anyone who signs up today or from now on, tough luck. Their window of opportunity has closed.

I agree, I've been waiting for first land for nearly two months straight, as soon as I upgraded to a premium account, basically. And have tried to be patient, but this...I activated under false pretense, and that is definitely something I am not happy about. Yippee if it makes the game better and the land prices better, etc, but somehow I feel like I just got dumped on. Boo to Linden Labs, this just reaffirms my opinion on where the game is headed. jmo.

I think they are going to see a fair amount of premium accounts drop now. With the land prices as high as they are, I see no sense being premium until the costs drop some. There's now way I'd pay some of the prices being asked.

I wanna know who got "The Last First Land"..

Maybe complain or try and set up a petition on the forum. You never know, if there is a large enough response, LL may yet honour their commitment to provide first land to the first-landless.

Sorry, I didn`t realize everyone already pointed out first land is gone.

Personally, I`m disgusted. But I seem to be disgusted by a lot of what LL does. I`m no premium account and I hold no land other than 3 SIMs. But those mass amounts of people who bought premium and failed to be able to get land, those people who bought premium and have been awaiting their land- I hope to god LL refunds these people of their membership if the resident desires to be, first land is WHY a lot of them have bought.

LL couldnt be bothered addressing the lack issue, so they do away with it all together. Go figure.

And to top it off, everything on the forums is strictly monitered now, yes linden answers was being abused, but now there`s no way to discuss your unsatisfaction with LL. They just hide behind their computer, not picking up the phone, and not answering your "support request" e-mails. Grand.

pfft. At only 8 or so a day, the usual suspects can easily shell out 10-20k on their credit cards to buy up the land at 13+ L/m2. Prices aren't going down, peeps.

I expect you will indeed see fewer roads because driving in SL is rather broken. Even in one of the nicest cars in Second Life (I have a Dominus Shadow), trying to drive across sim borders with more than one person in the car is painful at best- but usually just ends up with people getting ejected from the vehicle.

Then don't let alts buy First Land. Who they think they're talking to, idiots? It's a private enterprise, we get it, they want to make money, but how can they lie so blatantly on their official site? That's disgusting.

LL wants to make money the fastest way possible. They’re not doing this for any other reason. They think they’ve reached the point where their product can generate $$ by offering less benefits for more profit. They may be right, I don’t know, I’m an SL newbie and was waiting for First Land to play around with.

It doesn’t make sense to get into the complexities of real estate and valuation of holdings and economic factors, etc, etc. We’re all a bunch of people sitting in front of a monitor typing on a keyboard. The data and information going back and forth is irrelevant. This is not a ‘metaverse’, no one is living anywhere else other than in front of their PCs and the priority here for LL is how to put more $$ in their bank account.

This is a classic bait and switch,advertise one thing and sell another. Do I hear lawsuit. they need to compensate people prior to this decision who were waiting patiently for an opportunity to buy first land. I wanted to buy land that is why I signed up for a premium account for a year. If I downgrade do lose my entire year payment? Just really disappointed in linden labs. way to go.

Yeh, I'm over here at the 'New Continent' 51 brand spanking new sims ready to be snapped up by land barons. I'm sure they're all nice class-5 sims but this makes me angry on behalf of all the new premium accounts who've just been shafted by LL.
