Hi guys,
I have done extensive searches in the forum hoping to uncover some information about a rumor I heard, with no luck. The rumor was that there will be a second world that will be for adults only, and by this, I mean No child avatars.
Has anyone heard anything like this? I have no problems with a second world made only for adult avatars, but I hate to think that they will take down the first world and children in SL will only come in prim form.
I am one of those child avatars who lead a PG life in SL. I agree that sex is emphasized way to much, so I stick to the PG areas (they have the best amusement parks anyway). I would appreciate any feedback anyone can give me. Thank you.

until recently I'd say that I doubt it since that would be a slippery slope (what's next furries) and probably would be crossing a line but recently I just don't know LL doesn't seem to make sense with their policies and actions so you never know.

I sincerely believe LL has no intention of such a thing.
If that truly interests you, sociolotron (google it) is the likely end result.

That does not look like a game I would be interested in, But I am hoping that it was the subject of the rumors and not Second Life. Thank you for the info!

well supposedly this is already an adult grid, so basically what you mention would essentially amount to banning child/small avs. they could easily change the appearance menus to force us all to be 6'+.
imo what we are actually going to see is a convergence of the teen grid and adult grid into one grid- with age/sex/location verification, sanctioned community policing groups, vague sl laws, and 'voluntary' yet oppressive parcel ratings.

I am not aware of ANY intention of LL to ban such avatars. What IS banned is having sexual activities whilst using such avatars. But people enjoying their 'inner kid' as kids is perfectly ok and frankly unlikely to be banned.
It should be noted LL have ONLY banned things that have enough concern on the Legal front to make it the sensible course of action.

We ARE on the adult grid, so there is no need to create another one.
The appearance settings these adults choose have nothing to do with age.

~Gizmo Extensive research in 9 days maximum, with 2 post to your name, have you been to the grid or is this your 2nd AV concealing the real you. Sorry to say this but when the subject of children are bought up I become somewhat concerned when people hide behind a seconf AV.. Just my thoughts

I love kids, don't get me wrong, but I have to say that integration between the two would be a bad idea. Even with restrictions added, I still say no to that one. There are many smart kids out there that can figure out a way to gain access to an adult area and bypassing the restrictions. I'd say it would be too risky and the two should continue to stay separated. I know I wouldn't want a child of mine stepping foot into an adult area that provides mature content. I wouldn't hold that child back from real life issues, but I wouldn't go forcing the temptation on him either. Just my humble opinion on the topic.

My real height is bang on 5ft rl.
I get told I am short at 6ft in world. If I wanted to be my real height then I look like a child.
Someone who shall remain nameless but who is actually an SL Mentor (shudder ... I dread to think what sort of 'mentoring' this personage gives') said "yeah but some people like that ... I do" when trying to score with me.
Of course if the heights were reduced then not so many people would have to be 9ft Amazons.

People who know my comments on Resident Answers on this issue will inwardly groan and probably move on BUT I am gonna give my two cents worth. Now I LIKE teens - they actually PAY in a sense for my REAL life. BUT I think teens in SL would be a DISASTER. Firstly, SL is designed for adults - our world (despite all the sex hoopla and whatever) is basically programmed to maturity. I have met MORE curmudgeons here than I thought possible - "young fogies" - 25-35 yrs group. So teens will feel unwelcome and will NOT return when 18. Secondly, I (and many o fus) treat SL as an adult world - if YOU are underage, well you are taking a chance here. Don't be surprised if you are shocked or offended by adult behaviour. I run an art museum and have absolutely NO intention of removing nudes or potentially shocking art simply because some whittering 15 year old comes on line. Even the suggestion of teens on the grid has caused a "disinfecting" of our world. Such a pity and such a waste. Art and ideas comes from the manure piles of society not the suburban recycling cans (umm okay, it is early here and I just waking up). Finally, an 18 year old is VERY different from a 16 year old. 18 is a good cut-off age. As for child avatars - well, so what? They are adults - let them play. I know a couple and they are "kewl" - I just dont speak "kid-speak".

Cherry I am 5 4 in real and my friends TOWER over me. My partner looks a reasonable 6 feetish BUT I am always amused by Honking great women who have skinny legs and "umberella" feet. I have copied my exact measurements to SL which also means I have been confused with a boy at times (if you know what I mean). But my bum is cute.

I get told I am short at 6ft in world. If I wanted to be my real height then I look like a child. That is the same here, except that I'm sticking with an avatar that's only slightly taller than my real height. The age question does come up often enough to be a little tiresome, but on the other hand it can be flattering to be mistaken for half your age From: someone "yeah but some people like that ... I do" when trying to score with me. …often followed by "oh, and do you have a schoolgirl outfit?"

The OP was asking about child avatars, not teens on the grid.
Really, when you can make your avatar into a vampire or a demon or an orc, forbidding an avatar that looks like a CHILD is pretty sad.

Of course if the heights were reduced then not so many people would have to be 9ft Amazons. Interesting. I am also not only small height in RL, but also slightly built, and I have made an avatar that represents this reality. But I have never been hit on by someone looking for a 'child'. It's probably my preference for short boyish hair, maybe they think I am a boy. I have seen 'little girl' avatars and they do worry me a little, with their long curly hair, flouncy skirts, huge eyes and skinny legs. However if they are not in Mature areas, I can't see the harm, and I too have a child avatar (pudgy, gawky, and not remotely attractive!) for use in a nightclub where small people congregate for no sinister motives that I have ever seen. I don't see how SL could have grounds - or motive - for banning them.

Back to child avis
08-09-2007 05:40
Just like the furry, I see no harm in coming in as you wish. Jeez...I've seen some alien life forms in here and so what?
As long as you are not acting out sexually in public (too each their own I guess), I personally wouldn't have an issue with it.
I personally don't understand why one would want to dress as a little child, but that doesn't make it wrong just because I come in SL as an adult and myself. Who knows...I see no reason why SL would ban kid avi's as long as you are following the same rules the rest of us have too.

Don't believe rumors: it has been clarified to me, from senior members of the Linden Lab staff, that child avatars (or all avatars of a shorter than amazonian stature) are okay, and remain so. It is sexual ageplay that is banned. Yer fine, Gizmo. Mari

Hey, not all us girl kids have curly hair or wear many floucy skirts! Aside: my home is in a mature region, an I own 1/4 of the region. I see no issue with being in a mature region. It's what you might on it dat would be at issue. I am very much G-rated at home - but who knows what my folks might do after I go ni ni? Dat's their business, after all, and for all I know might include more 'mature' moments appropriate to the region. Mari

This concept is ludicrous.
What next? Ban aliens because alien/human sex is inappropriate? How old is that alien anyway? What if aliens mature at a much faster rate?
Ban robots too--because human/robot sex is out of the question--unless it's a dolphin or butterfly...(wink wink).
It's not the shape you take, it's what you DO with that shape.

From: Tami Amat I personally don't understand why one would want to dress as a little child, Don't hit me for homing in on that sentence. Personally, I think playing roles is fun, and I'm sure it's as fun to play a child as it a furry, a dragon, an anime character or an android. The longer I'm a member of Second Life, the less I understand why I spend most of my time here as an adult, male human-being. It just seems so boring given the endless possibilities. I'm working on that.

I've been actually pushed a bit by friends to do a show of em inworld. I should really do it. In a lotta ways, I feel the pictures convey why people play kids lots better than words sometimes. Mari
