While on the beta grid, I realize you can upload stuff for free, and that money transactions made there while testing things don't count against your "real" bank.

But, can you interact with other avs on the Beta Grid? Could like you and some friends meet up in the beta grid for instance?

Yes - but they have to be on the same grid as you. All communication with them remains on that grid.

I'm on there now and again. usually haunting beta Livingtree.

I used to go on Beta quite a lot but recently its performance has been bad (for me) - especially with mixed up textures.

What a cool thing to know! Now I'll just need to figure out how to get from grid to grid.

From your log in screen, hit control-shift-G to get the grid selection window. The main grid is "Agni," while the beta grid is "Aditi" (There's others, but I think they're Linden-only).

Next up, I need to learn how to become a gridnaut. :-)

You become a Gridnaut by joining the Gridnaut group.

The proof of concept certainly is working, teleporting from the Beta Grid to an OpenSim and back is now fully functioning. It will be avatar appearance and inventory next (but then the real question of server hosting will need to be addressed).

The Hippo viewer already allows grid hopping, SL, OSGrid, 3rd Rock, Central Grid, etc, and a forthcoming release may well include intergrid teleporting (in addition to 45,000 prims/region, building up to 10,000m, and megaprims as standard, up to 250x250x250). However, for most people it will not be true teleporting unless your assets go with you, but this is being worked on.

Exciting days ahead :)

I tried logging into the beta grid but it won't accept my username and password.

Any idea why that happens?

ya huh quite valuable for animators and texture makers, can save yourself quite alot of money in upload fees by testing there and uploading the final to the live grid (10L isn't much i know, but it adds up when your really really bad at making animations and your trying to get something to look right :P)

the beta grid uses an older 'snapshot' of the database.
its a few month out of date, so your avatar would need to be at least that old in order to be found in the beta database. and avs that were around then also need to use whichever passwd they were using a few months ago as well.

I got the same issue before.. Was a month or so ago, but I haven't tried since to see if it's changed. Couldn't get an answer back then, lol.

I'm exploring the beta grid today. When logging in, I noticed that my current SL password doesn't work. So I used my previous password and voila, I was in.

Sooo...if we buy something in one of the stores that are set up across the beta grid, do we get to bring it back to the main grid with us?

WHOA! Guess what Dilbert. I just bought some skates while over on the Beta grid and they never came to my inventory there. Just took my $L
I just logged onto the live grid and there were my skates waiting for me.
Hmmm....now I'm going to go check my account to see if the $L came out of the beta account or my live account.

ETA: o.O Wewtie! I'm going beta grid shopping! O.o

LMAO

MoxZ, that should be impossible, I think.

Where in the beta grid did you buy these skates, I'll give it a try.

As Suezanne pointed out, this really isn't possible the way it is set up. If it did happen then something is seriously borked and is a reportable exploit which will get you a few extra thousand $L as a reward.

The beta grid doesn't always (maybe never) suppport all the functions the main grid does.

This causes vendors that use these unsupported functions to fail. I think it might be the beta grid's lack of email support that's the culprit.

So when beta grid shopping, items that use the fancy scripted vendors are likely to fail, while simple prims selling themselves, copies of themselves, or their contents, should work.

It would neat if store owners would put all their stuff out for sale in the beta grid. Heck, set the stuff out for free in the beta grid. Folks who grow accustomed to neat stuff in the beta grid might weaken their financial resolve and end up buying stuff in the main grid they'd otherwise have done without.

OK Found it! I'm on the Beta Grid at Mocha 1.24 beta 37,143,30 - Carolines's Jewelry

This came from a vendor with roller and ice skates in it.

scripted vendor on the beta grid -> web server -> inventory dispensing prim on the main grid -> inventory offer on the main grid for a beta grid purchase

Assuming of course that scripts can "call out" to the web on the beta grid it could just be a vendor bug rather than an SL bug.

There has never been http or email support in the beta grid.

MoxZ is right, it's deducting the pay from the beta grid account and delivering the skates in the main grid.

What am I gonna do with an unlimited supply of Skoopf Skates that I could have gotten by copying anyway?

Well I went ahead and filed an SEC on it. If I was the first then I'll give you the reward MoxZ. Thank you for bringing it to our attention.
