Well if it makes ya feel any better, I used to fit that description and I didn't even realize it...and yep, it sure as hell *was* a lonely place.

Just out of curiousity, have you found any other potential for Voice chat in SL than the obvious just "killing time"/meeting new people, etc.?

This question kinda springs from my past experiences in using it to coordinate competitive strategies in online cooperative games; CounterStrike, 25 To Life, Ghost Recon, etc.

Voice made those videogames seem more fast-paced and excited, *and* it encouraged teamwork among strangers and RL friends alike, which gave us another level of immersion and camaraderie.

Here's what I've seen/heard/thought of so far...

__Learning languages (I'm going to be opening a multi-lingual conversation spot once I get some details worked out)

__Teaching most kinds of classes on RL and SL subjects. How much quicker would a building class be?! What about the new dimension to distance learning courses this could potentially add? SL would be your chalk board!!

__Team situations (combat, security for huge events, general coordination of time-sensitive activities) The private and group call features already in place would do wonders for this. There'll be little to no chance of eves dropping so sensitive time-sensitive info won't easily be compromised (unless someone on your team is a rat!)

__Stand-up Comedy Clubs (I've debated opening one once v-chat is more widespread)

__Kareoke/freestyle rappin (though certain details to keep on beat with the music need to be addressed somehow

__Other performing arts such as poetry reading and plays/skits. I don't care about poetry but I know there are many who do. Now they can share! Also, now you could do a Shakespearian play or otherwise act in ways you couldn't in SL. All it is is voice and knowing where to stand and how to move. (a) animations (b) avatar positioning (c) use that talking hole in your face!

With the amount of creativity floating around certain corners of SL I have no doubt of the potential of the above ideas being exceeded...not to mention what else people will come up with!

I was in the Welcome area at Ahern yesterday and there were 2 large groups chatting happily, unfortunately, one group was speaking Italian, the other Dutch *sigh*

I guess not all of us are entitled to voicing our opinion in her world. Must be a lonely place...

I'm glad there are so many people willing to enhance the overall experience in the forums.

Taylor, to me that is a perfect opportunity to practice Italian or Dutch or Portuguese or Spanish or French or German or English (for the non-native speakers) in conjunction with taking courses online and/or in world.

I know there is the initial fear of being looked at badly by native speakers for not talking right but my experience with portuguese and spanish have been that most people think it's cool that an english speaker even cares enough to learn another language.

I know I keep saying this, but I'm looking forward to the language applications of v-chat more than anything. It will be the first thing in SL that actually has RL use and relevance!!

Ok, thanks for the info Squeeze.

Lots of things like the classes you're talking about will be so much easier and better doing then the usual tiresome typing. Unfortunately, some people don't see it that way. In many cases these same people have never tried VC in any form, yet, in their minds they already have their opinions formed that it's a bad thing.

But I feel those who do use it will get more out of sl and all the things it offers as well as saving lots of time doing things
