Okay, ive been making and selling tattoos for almost a year here in SL.

Today, i had a custom order. I took the order and made the tattoo in PS, i uplaoded it into sl and made it as a shirt layer and everything looked fine on me. I gave it to my customer and it shows up as a white shirt. How could this be?

This has NEVER happened to me before. I had him clear cache and relog, i remade the tattoo- its still showing up on him as a white shirt. I also gave it to someone else to test - white shirt! But on me it looks fine.

Weird thing is, ive been working on a tattoo ever since i installed the update and that one loads and looks fine on everyone; this particular one keeps displaying as a white shirt.

I guess the update jacked something up, but what? and how do i fix it? Or perhaps its something i did but i didnt do a thing different in photoshop or in making the shirt.(But again, it looks fine on me, white shirt to all else- makes no sense!) I IMd live help a few minutes ago and of course, dead help, no response.

Im sure it probably is a bug..... but just to run the easy mistake troubleshooting:

Did you save as a TGA, not a Jpg?

For some reason, did you save the tattoo at some weird spot in the template?

Did you try giving the texture to someone else (before it's clothing)?

Well like I said, it looks fine on me so its nothing to do with me saving it wrong; its a correct tga file. Its when i give it to others it shows up on them as a white shirt.

Ive uploaded 3 other tattoos since and they havent been a problem so im not sure whats up with this one, i tried reuploading it too. Maybe it is on my side but i have done nothing different =\ But makes no sense why it would look completely ok on me, and a white shirt on everyone else. Guess i should send in a bug report

is ANYONE else having this problem?

I just spent hours working on a new full body tattoo and gave a shirt and undershirt version to a friend, meanwhile telling her about the white shirt issue earlier today.

Well, the undershirt layer i gave her is displaying on her as a white shirt, and the shirt layer is working fine.

also gave copies to my gf and both work perfect on her

wtf is up? Im going to go send a bug report now and then post this link in linden answers so maybe i can get some type of official response instead of waiting and waiting for apossible bug report answer.

I dont know if its just these new tattoos doing it or if im going to have to close down my shop until problem is resolved.

The tattoo is showing as a white shirt on my screen also. It is going to mess up not only tattoo makers but clothing makers also. This needs to be fixed asap.

I made a simple t shirt with a full permission texture i made in PS - same thing - if you give it away or even make a copy of it in your own inventory the copies are simple white tee shirts.

/bugged

This must be a nightmare for the real clothes designers out there :(

When you search the forums for "Missing image", you'll find a lot of threads regarding this issue. You'll also meet a lot of people inworld wearing white T-shirts, white trousers, skirts, even white faces. It's a common problem at the moment and happens with all sorts of clothing as well as skins.

Some avatar textures can't be found (asset server gets a hickup or whatever) and instead of the original texture a white one with the text "Missing Image" is displayed. Your original uploaded texture is fine, the bug is known and the Ls are working on it (hopefully). What you can do meanwhile is to tell your customers to use the appearance menu, or to "rebake" their avatar textures (Ctrl+Alt+D to get the "Client" menu, Client --> Character --> Rebake Textures). Sometimes that helps. If not, they can teleport to a less frequented sim with less lag, rebake their textures there, then teleport back to crowded places once their avatar looks as it should.

Ishtara- thanks, but this does not say missing image, its just a plain white tee...different from the missing image though it acts similar. Does not fix when doing a rebake.

Although you mention it happens to skins... Interesting, maybe this is a close cousin of the missing image bug.

Jess, well, the only thing I could think of was something I run into with Photoshop from time to time where the alpha channel info doesn't save correctly. But if it's showing up on you correctly, it can't be this. Wait.. are they wearing a jacket or shirt over the tattoo? I heard there are some baking issues cropping up with the layers of clothing. Which yes, sucks.

Heya, :)

Yeah its not that, esp since the tattoo is showing on some people. When i first discovered this it seemed to only show fine on me and as a white tee on everyone else; since then it seems sometimes it shows as white tees on some and then other times it works on them. Also showed as a white tee for me once upon a relog.

I was not wearing any other upper body clothing, nor were some who had the tat as a white tee.

So far i have not gotten any complaints from purchasers, i guess its only happening with things ive uploaded after the new update.

If it consistently works for some people and consistently doesn't for others, perhaps it's a bug with interaction with different skins (the only on-avatar image you haven't ruled out). Try swapping out your skin for a default newbie skin, or some other custom skin and see if it still looks okay on you. Get a skin from someone for whom your tattoo doesn't work.

Looks to me like the Save As function in Appearance is still totally hosed!

No wonder they didn't mention it specifically as being fixed in the latest updates :(

I rely heavily on this feature & am pretty disgusted that it did not fixed.

Also tried a couple of old workarounds, they did absolutely no good. Everytime I Save As.. it may even appear to be saving as the new name.. even along the top of the appearance editor, but once I drop garment to another avatar.. or relog the first one.. who is still wearing a nice tat garment.. once I pop into appearance it changes back to default New Pants.. including the garment name along the top of the window.

The "Save As" function was disabled with the last permissions exploit and has yet to be turned back on. No word yet as to when it will be turned back on...

Gee they turned it off Oct. 14th...I'm surprised clothing creators aren't speaking out more about this.

*edit* oops...my bad, Kelly just said in LA that it was turned back on...where is the announcement?

yes it should work, but if it doesn't work properly Kelly Linden has requested that we file in world bug reports, with pictures if possible.

No, just thought you were using Save As to make the new tat garments. And, it had just recently been reactivated.

I tried to use it and got similar results to what you have been experiencing with the reverting back to the default garment. Thought that is how you saved the garments. But after messin around with it.. the default garment thing, may not be directly tied to the Save As feature. Might be tied to the appearance editor, more than the Save As feature.

Is quite weird. I can right click to wear the tat garment I made and it wears fine, but as soon as I open it up in appearance window, it reverts back to the default garment & stays that way.. until I take it off and wear it via right click while not in appearance editor. This seems to be the only consistency. Except that everything I've made appears affected.

So far as I know, just to file a bug report. I checked Known Issues forum a couple hours ago & it had nothing new from today, yet.

There is a workaround for the bugged "Save as" feature. Open an inventory folder and select "Create --> New Clothes --> New Shirt" (for example) from the inventory menu. Rename it, wear it and apply the textures.
Or, second possibility: locate an existing piece of clothing, copy it and paste it to a new location, then rename, wear, apply textures. If "copy" isn't shown on rightclick (yet another bug), press Ctrl+C multiple times and paste with Ctrl+V.

They can't keep us from working :)

Is this workaround confirmed by LL ? What aspect is actually fixing the problem ? Is it the renaming the clothing in the inventory?

We've spent the entire evening making new skins, opening up an existing base skin bodypart, applying new faces and "Saving as". We found they were randomly reverting to the old textures.

We also tried this with a brand new Linden Skin, applying the textures and "Saving as". My business partner then gave me a copy of it. The one she retained seemed ok when she tried it on later. The copy she gave me reverted to Linden skin after 10 minutes (but not straight away, as I tested it when I received it).

We're about ready to give up at this point. Not being able to "Save as" last week was bad enough, now it's just one giant, random fuck up.

I`ll try different methods but we shouldnt have to- they need to comment on this.

I posted in Linden answers and got no answer; although my last 4 posts ive ever posted in there were unanswered as well.

Yeah honestly im getting real weary of it all and their lack of service. I think its the lack of service thats pushing me to the edge. If they would get quicker repsonses and actually care it would be different. But content creators are constantly made to feel like theyre in a battle against LL.
