Will there be first land in front of my plot?

Hi,

I just bought an extra plot of land and it has a nice view of the sea:

http://slurl.com/secondlife/Boggabri/136/240

I am wondering if the bit of land in front of the sea will be made available at some point to others or I can assume that it's never going to be inhabited.

Cheers,

lhor

There are no certainties =) Frontier land can quickly become buried in the middle of a continent as the world grows... previously empty sims may be put up for auction, you never can tell. :)

Beaches can be very popular but don't often have tall structures unless you're really unlucky. My area has an undeveloped sim between it and the sea. I'm expecting it to come up for sale at some point though.

Looking at the map one notices that my land is on the border of one of the big grid squares. Th next one up is 90% sea, with a bit of 'beach' in front of my own. So if that piece of beach is put up for sale then LL will have decided to develop only a small % of a grid square. Does this happen?

That makes it all very exciting, I guess. BUT... if I am making RL investment in property here I would expect a level of certainty. In this case I'm happy if the beach in front is developed - that is to be expected in RL as well. But to find myself buried in the middle of a continent, well, I would be veru unhappy with that.

All i want is a view of the sea... :)

I really couldn't hazzard a guess there Lhorentso. I can only suggest searching (if it's enabled again!) for a similar fragment to see if that was developed.

umm .. guilty LOL

A favourite author of mine has a web site with a little button in the corner 'to initiate emergency "boss approaching" procedure, press here.
When you do, the screen clears and a Windows bargraph appears with 'Important file downloading that could save the company' :)

Me too... that's the advantage of having a window behind me, nobody can see what I'm doing... and as I've got a Second Life screenshot as my Windows backdrop, which people are used to seeing, they won't necessarily even notice if I was logged in to SL at the time.

Well, it is still Lhorentso's - it's not as though someone's hijacked it ;)

Sounds like you're next to what's called a 'void sim', typically they have little or no land and exist more to be open space than area to be developed.

Since the region would have to be matched to it's neighbors, probably re-terraformed and bumped up from void sim to regular sim... your ocean view is *probably* safe....

Though... keep in mind SL's umptieth rule of real estate: "If you want to control the view... you have to own the view."

That sums it up, really. But 2 weeks into my SL I'm not quite ready to but islands. One day maybe...

Thanks for the info.

I have never seen a sim that is partially land like that, not go up for sale at some point, even if it is mostly water.

LL has sold lots of land that was underwater, so being beach front is no guarantee that something wont pop up off shore.

All of the previous posts contain truth...the takehome message might be to consider why you would invest in the property, as an investment. The final question you must answer is: In a world where I do not control the gods, can I recover my investment regardless of the location? If the answer is "yes", then buy and develop, if the answer is "no", then do not buy based on location alone unless you are personally willing to absorb the loss in property value should your beachfront become a casino-fronting, or brothel-fronting or Mr. Lee-fronting property (all of which, btw, might be considered good property too hehe).

I flew around yesetday and looked at a couple of similar grid squares and didn't find any featuring a small % of land that had been built up, so I think I'm safe. If not I'll find a spot on a private island - I've seen places that are very nice and not too pricey. But I'd rather be thr outright owner.

LL should designate certain areas that are akwardly positioned as Nature Reserves and have wild life running around or other particularly interesting natural (and supernatural) features. Just to get people exploring a bit.

:D

I only have a few rules of real estate (for SL, and sometimes RL),

#1: loc loc loc...

#2: The more money someone spends on a home...
the less time they actually spend in it.

#3: Selling land? Don't post land for sale 'to anyone', (that breeds billboard barons.) Offer land for sale to your immediate neighbors and other residents of the same sim, many would be delighted to snap up your land!

#4: Buying land? Turn on View -> Show Land Owners and go flying. It is definitely worthwhile to pay a little more for a spot in a neighborhood that has a look and feel you like. (oh wait, that's rule #1 again). :D

Expect it and then be happy when you're not buried. I had a some property on the edge of the world it seemed with a beautiful water front view..then one day I logged in and my beautiful view was replaced with a mature sim and xxx clubs and casinos and whirly prims in the air. I sold my plot.

I forgot one:

Always be nice to your neighbors... you may want to buy them out someday. (or you may want them to buy you out! :)
