Yiffy Linden? Lol!
Not sure i would use the same name. After all lindens shouldn't tell people who they are.

Still i wanna at least try it someday. it might be fun, although from what I've been told it's hell. ;p

we no longer have the option to risk losing anything. ![]() |

If taking the grid down would make the fix faster- they would have already done that.
Believe it or not folks, they want it back up just as much as we do. |

Not usefull

It makes no senso to take down the grid now.
The problem has accumulated over a long time. SL's kernel is buggy, and many old bugs have never been really resolved. LL glues more and more faulty expansions on thei bugy kernel, e.g. voice or windlight. So old bugs are added to new bugs with an unpredictable result. That's what we see at the moment: look into the blog: --> [Resolved] Access denied (7/2 ![]() --> [Resolved] In-world Service Slowdowns (7/2 ![]() --> [Resolved] Several In-world Searches disabled temporarily (7/29) -->Gridwide Slowdowns Oooops? They were resolved one day before? And what a euphemistic title "Slowdown"! If half of the services are definitely dead and several functions do not work properly, it's not a slowdown, it's a breakdown. This [Resolved] should be permanently read as "Resolved until further notice". The information politics of LL is disgusting for customers, it's like beeing on a drip... all few days you may get some info, what's broken now or resolved (until further notice). Shutdown is not usefull now. First, they should stop all nonsense like voice and windlight and put everyone on documentig the system and finding bugs - and then they should make a downtime week and clean up the rubbish. At least they will shutdown, if they continue this way - forever. The big players like IBM or Dell are reducing or leaving, looking for a better alternative - even with more users in world as SL allows. This says to me: The idea of a metaverse is alive. SL will die a slow death, if LL does not clean up and listen to its customers. Raban (apologizing for hgis wooden english - i'm german) |

Software engineers can only work so fast... taking the grid down wouldn't fix things sooner but it would prevent people from losing stuff and being unable to do things. I would rather they just stopped trying to add new features and fix all the old bugs... _____________________

"If taking the grid down would make the fix faster- they would have already done that." That isn't the point. I have seen more than one person say they've lost purchases in the thousands of L$ in the last two days. Not everyone reads the forums and blogs. A lot of people just log in and go shopping. If they can't provide at least reasonable assurance that what you buy will be there the next day, they shouldn't be allowing sales at all. |

I don't think so.
I can log in, I can chat, even if I don't dare build or script, I can find new customers, negotiate deals, show my builds/products. It is impaired time, but not dead time for me. All those moaning over lost L$1000 - get a life - or a pocket calculator. That is $4.07, hardly an amount to write home about! |

I've been wondering the same thing...why aren't they just shutting the grid down? But then, everytime the grid DOES shut down, a million people complain about it. So for LL, it's a lose/lose situation, lol.

So for LL, it's a lose/lose situation, lol. Takes way to long to get it all back up again. And why shut it down when some of us are not effected by the issues. |

The only way to get any attention from LL, is to hit them where it hurts.
Stop paying them. None of us want to just throw money away on the sim, island, parcel's we've purchased, but continuing to pay tier on a broken service/product/game is silly. Granted it's kind of hit or miss on when it's working or not working, and it's only been a weekend, but when the option of pro-rating tier/service charges is considered laughable by everyone who participates in SL, then the community as a whole should start pro-rating the service themselves. How long would Linden Labs be in business without money to run their operation? Could they survive 2 months of nobody paying tier and people only using free accounts? Sure, it would suck for all of us to go back to standard avs, and seeing the whole grid become locked down due to land tier not being paid, but, when the people stop getting paid and start getting hungry maybe they will be a bit more attentive to things like communicating with the people. When you want to get a large entities attention, hit them in the wallet. They will take notice. All of that aside, it would be nice to get hourly updates. If they are that serious about getting things back in order, then I would imagine they are (or should be) working in teams around the clock until it is fixed for good. Is it so hard to give an hourly update saying "well, we're looking at xyz as a cause..." or "well, xyz isn't the cause, but we've got another lead..." etc. That wouldn't be so unprofessional. If you don't know, then you don't know and you keep looking until you do. I think that LL would get more respect by just coming out saying "we don't know what the hell is going wrong, but we're looking and working on it." instead of just being silent 9 hours at a stretch. If you (LL) don't feel you owe us any explination about what exactly is going on, then, myself and perhaps most of the community don't feel we should pay you. In the end, you work for the people giving you money. At this time, short of a magical fix, all anyone really wants is information. Considering it takes all of 30 seconds to post to a blog (it's wordpress isn't it?) is that really asking too much? |

They can shut it down for all I care. No sales, people afraid to buy. Building doesn't make sense either, since I'm not sure if what I build today will still be in my inventory tomorrow. Better not touch inventory at all atm. Shut it down and refund customers for the lost days.

Personally, I've re discovered the joys of playing CIV [Civilazation IV]. There is a new up date and I am going to spend money on THAT and not SL.
I forgot how fun Civ is and how few stupid, irritating and needless problems there are. I'm at the point that the ONLY thing keeping me interested in SL are my friends whom I have met there. LL can jump of a cliff as far as I am concerned and they can take SL with them. |

I'm reading some webcomics and pondering CoH at the moment. No point in logging in if I can't do the work I was gonna do in the first place! (As in, I can't TP out of the sim I am in.. and rezzing things is pointless right now.) 1: turn the grid off 2: manage to make a quick fix 3: turn the grid on 4: stop developping any more shiny/voice/etc... 5: fire all your so called programmers and customer support team 6: hire some good programmers and a real customer support team 7: make half of them monitoring the grid 24/24 - 7/7 and doing their best to clean the previous programmers mess. 7b: make half of them working on SL 2.0 from scratch AND DO NOT ADD ANYTHING MORE BEFORE SL 2.0 is ready step 1: done we just have to wait step 2 and 3.. _____________________

indeed... it think it's better to shut down the grid instead of having à 200% useless grid.
btw, I also think it's better to work on databases and other sl tech stuff when the load is light. _____________________

the lindens have a work ethic of " you pick the jobs YOU want to do" with that in mind ... who the hell would want to touch a shitty grid.
I say close it down ..... rebuild ...fix and bring it back up. Allthough I say like Ginko ... one week without tier is a deal breaker for LL ... but then again ... SL IS an expensive game considering _____________________

i feel sympathy for the people who have invested money in LL's broken machine... i do hope they fix it... i could do without it for a month or two if it could actually be stable for once when it came back on....

I'm more or less OK while I'm in quiet places but busy clubs are a dead loss performance-wise right now - as bad as they were when I started in SL last Sept - there had been a general improvement since then but it's back to square one right now.
I do have to report from my RL that it is not just SL that has deteriorated recently but internet performance in general - even getting onto Google (whatever that might be!!!) is said to take ages now. |
