I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Save us all the terror of lost inventory items, rez failure and complaints from customers, tenants and merchants. Take it offline and wake up your tech team.

Like someone else mentioned, take the thing offline and work on everything to get it healthy again then flip it back on. They should waited before doing the rolling upgrades a few days ago...

I've just been in-world and it's been OK (stayed in my home sim) but cash total is marked 'loading....' and I can't get music stream to play on my new parkland - but that could be a problem with that land or the music provider.

The internet generally has become worse of late. Only recently even getting into Google can take ages. Also after logging off SL (especially if it crashes) it takes much longer now before computer can do anything else.

IF there was seriously a benefit to shutting the main grid down for a day then I'd say yes.

I am not sure that would make any difference though. They HAVE shut down huge numbers of services but it is nice to be able to at least log in and talk to friends, so I appretiate that they are keeping it up while they work on it. I actually think it's one of the FEW things LL is doing right. (Assuming that it probably doesn't make THAT much difference, but without them telling us anything about what the problem actually is... )

If you will notice all these problems started after the rolling update they did to the grid to implement some stuff for voice, I think this is just a small taste of the technical problems we will have when voice is implemented. Yeah for me its pretty useless right now with having tp, the map and searches all not working.

Perhaps LL don't know what the problem is. I.T. is complex and they needn't be ashamed of not knowing but I can understand they might not want us all to know that!!!

1: turn the grid off
2: manage to make a quick fix
3: turn the grid on
4: stop developping any more shiny/voice/etc...
5: fire all your so called programmers and customer support team
6: hire some good programmers and a real customer support team
7: make half of them monitoring the grid 24/24 - 7/7 and doing their best to clean the previous programmers mess.
7b: make half of them working on SL 2.0 from scratch
AND DO NOT ADD ANYTHING MORE BEFORE SL 2.0 is ready

"We're experiencing server issues. Avoid doing anything that has to do with the reason you'd even want to be in SL in the first place."

I say they should take it down for a whole week and get shit working. I'd be down with that if I knew that downtime was being put to good use.

I brought my RL brother into SL yesterday. I had to preface his experience with explaining the fact that SL is completely user created (kinda) and overloaded so parts of it don't work from time to time ("time to time"="all the time";). Luckily, he was on when tps were actually working for a couple hours so he wasn't subjected to the welcome area for more than a couple seconds!

Voice has nothing to do with these issues. A lot of people don't understand how voice even works! Voice and WindLight are being made by seperate companies. Very little man-hours are going into those projects on LL's side.

I do agree that they need to curb the shiny button-making habit they have. They seem to be doing better about that than before, though.

I can see why you don't run a business!

I'm frustrated with this stuff, too, but I realize what it takes to run a business. I can imagine it's 20x harder when it's a service that no one else provides and the customers treat you like McDonald's employees even when things work RIGHT.

shut it down!!!
07-30-2007 09:50
Ok i agree shut the grid down we are all losing stuff money business only thing i do know is everytime there is an update its always when the resolved the issues of the previous one like we get 5days SL is behaving itself then Lo and behold another update which is cringing cos SL becomes unstable for at least 2 weeks till its starts to run how it should soo i say Lindens Please please please stop updates leave it for the new improvements make say two updates a year not one a month cos as it stands these updates are killing businesses in SL and more importantly FUN...
so stop asking us also to check our systems cos its always the way with these companies never take responsibility for a F.U.B.A.R of a job blame the consumer first..

Am i Right?

Perhaps we should give the beneift of the doubt
07-30-2007 09:57
While it is possible that LL won't take the grid down because it might expose them to liability for tier fees.....

We won't think that way. I'm inclined to think the slowdown is the symptom of an external attack, and they need it up to track the source of the attack.

Sounds much better don't ya think?

But MY vote is take it down.

[12:11 AM Pacific]

Reports of issues with other features such as llDialog have been confirmed.
No additional information is available at this time.

What LL is saying " Our customers are worthless we dont belive them when they say there is a problem they should just shut up and pay us"

LOL that blog is just uselessly funny hehe

07-30-2007 10:13
If i can be honest here as my point of view only thing i learned that Lindens actually listen too... is the Kerching of the cash registers as more people take out full accounts but dont actually get what they feel they are entitled too just excuses we doing a good job!!

It seems kind of sad that this is happening mere days after I recruited a moderately famous computer programmer (in as much as computer programmers get famous anyway) into SL for my design team. I can't imagine what she must be making of this latest train wreck.

If people who aren't aware of the problems are making, buying and selling things that could go poof because of maintenance that they are doing, then the grid should be shut down.
