is there a way to backtrack version release dates?
I have been looking in the archives for the blog but that doesn't seem to help.

anyone know of an area that we can look at a specific date and see which version was being used on that date?

appears the one that was being used when I joined was 1.9.0(21)

what about you? which version was being used when you joined?

I don't know... The oldest install I still have on my drive is 1.13.3.2, but that's not it since that one was from Mar 2007 and I've been playing (in my primary account) since Jun 2006.

[EDIT] It appears that I started with release 1.10.3

1.4.something, I think.

Not too long after that we got a new prim shape, the ring, which I remember very well, and which probably made me think new prim-shapes came along fairly frequently.

Version 1.2 brought huge changes to the world, resulting in a complete social reorganization. Some say that after 1.2 it was "all about the money". 1.2 also gave a major directional change to SL, having a major impact on the way economy would develop.

Outline of Changes in 1.2:

* Taxes were done away with and replaced by new land model.
* Land was taxed in a higher manner, residents were given the option to pay extremely high L$ rates per month, or in "lesser"-cost USD payments.
* Prims were divided between land owners based on parcel size (eliminating "prim hogs";).
* Improved interface and the ability to change its color via colors.ini.
* Scripters given the ability to create dialogs via llDialog

I wish I could say I have been here since the start of SL

I think I actually checked out the game back when, but never actually tried it, prolly the fee that was involved back there, not sure.

I soooo wish I could go back in time though.

I used to play something worlds, can not remember the name of it

it also allowed you to build and such just not to the extreme SL does

Easy way to figure out your starting version:

Go back through old forum posts to those that were made around your start time.

(old general forum here, for those older than 9/11/06)
/108/1.html

Somewhere within a two or three week period will be a series of posts along the lines of:

1) WTF! New update sucks big weenies@!!111

2) Vote here to roll back to _______

3) Anyone else totally borked wtih _____???!!111

That should tell you what version we are on at that time.... :D

This is handy for this discussion: http://slhistory.org/index.php/Release_Notes

I started on 1.8.3; 1.8.4 came out two days later.

I'm such a newbie. :-)

There's probably a direct corralation between the number of posts placed and the version you started with..but don't panic I wont ask anyone to work it out.

I've done 36 posts (37 now) and so you can probably guess (or the really smart folk will have probably calculated it) I started with version 1-17-0-12

Then I got 1-17-2..but it didn't work very well so I went back to 1-17-0-12

Then they brought out the latest (that's 1-18-0-6)..and we didn't have any choice but to use it..just as well it works better than 1-17-2.

The correlation is 17.02(pi x log of 1.112)..honest it is...;)

You don't count, ramon, since you're older than dirt. :)

I think it was 1.4 when I started in 9/2004.

Thats about when I started too. 1.6 was the last stable version I remember. The very next update broke so many things.. :o Then again.. maybe 1.6 wasnt that stable. I Just remember the game running alot smoother back then.
