What will be the next change?

Properly funcitioning sim crossings.

Physics good enough to make cars work well.

No rubberbanding when building

Scripts that save and start running quickly, and never revert to what they were an hour ago.

I'm hoping for one HUGE change in the future...the ONE and ONLY thing that could transport the SL Metaverse into becoming the true next-stage of the internet:

Neutralization of the Server technology/entire platform

In other words...release control from SL from JUST Linden Labs and allow it to propogate to hundreds of different companies hosting servers of all kinds all around the world...kinda like the internet did after Al Gore invented it (yea...I can make funnies too

).

Anyway...I know it's not gonna be NEXT...but that's probably the single most important thing that could possibly happen to SL.

Realistic Lighting/ HDR Lighting

Hair system akin to what you'd find in any 3D Application.

Ability to take advantage of DirectX 10 shader abilities (go watch Crytek's Crysisvideo). Why not? If a Mac can run Windows now, it makes a seperate Mac client unecessary.

Improved scripting

Improved Sculpty prims- as for now you either gotta use Blender (ick!) or cough up the $$$ for Maya or 3D Studio MAX.

Reduced Lag!!! LOL!!! *just kidding*

Probably letting people host their own servers. For people concerned about asset protection, I suspect scripts will not transfer over automatically, or there will be a flag - "run on LL servers only".

The rest (textures, prims) can be copied anyways, so I don't think it'll be a big deal transfering them around to unprotected servers.

hmmm...not sure what'll be next; but, you can be assured that it won't be good. With the globalization of SL; you have all the headaches of intolerance, religious fanaticism, self-centeredness (oh wait, we already have that), greed, hostile takeovers, the taking advantage of those that are new (oh, we have that also), trolling, etc al..

But don't let me discourage you just because Second Life is being reflected more and more like real life.
