We are experiencing gridwide issues at the moment. Resident may experience slowdowns or failures of search, mapping, teleporting and asset operations. Inworld L$ balances may show as Loading… Ops is working to resolve these issues as quickly as possible, in the meantime please avoid making any inworld transactions or operations on no-copy assets. Information will be posted here as it becomes available. |

Ubelievable... They are abit fast on the response of this problem, but I thought it was resolved. This is ridiculous. Replace those technicians with people that can do the job!

Well that's a comfort, that somebody at least NOTICES that something is wrong.
But the same thing is happening over and over again. Linden Lab needs to FIRE somebody. Probably the one responsible for the acquisition of that toy database MySQL. And what's this "please avoid making any inworld transactions or operations on no-copy assets"? If there is a risk for loss of lindens/land/inventory items, why don't they take the grid DOWN? |

I am hoping someone, somewhere, is working on something just like SL where there will be a thriving economy of user-created content.
Something built to scale in the future. Some company who actually cares about its user-base. _____________________

why don't they take the grid DOWN? I agree with you there they should just take The Grid down or do a rolling restart on the whole Grid cause its everything Search is down,Profile is down,Teleports are down,$L is Loading, you cant do anything you are stuck where you are untill they fix this stupid problem as soon as they were having problems they should of took it down or done a restart on whole grid Sunday and Wednesdays are the worst days on SL and they need to fix that before they start losing people |

Keep in mind this is a new technology, a brave new world..........and your part of it. Imagine Apple would tell that to iPhone owners... "This is new technology, you can't actually expect it to work just because you paid for it". If a company takes money for a product, it better be fully functional. _____________________

belly up dead
07-29-2007 23:52
Lets count our sl blessings this weekend, search is still down, friends list lies about who is and isnt on, you cant rez anything out without the possiblity of losing it, you cant buy anything without taking a big chance on the vendor failing and losing your money, map is broken, basically SL is belly up dead nonfunctional. The really sad thing is this isnt all that unusual here in sl. But at least the devs are busy on bringing us voice, new first look features and golly, organizing bug triage meetings, blog bragging about all the bugs they have fixed. Say, how many of those 163 fixes are still fixed a week later anyway.
Version 2.0, a built from scratch, brand new platform to replace this cobbled togeather beta, which we have been promised was coming forever is now no longer coming. Any one out there still believe SL is the '3d web of the future'? Yes, the grid monkeys will get sl running again on monday probably, and it will fail again, probably next weekend if not before, and repeat, and repeat. Content creation keeps getting harder and harder, not to mention more likely to get ripped off. Unverified griefers get one week suspensions of a throw away alt account, unverified throw away account bots are every where. Each Linden Lab policy change is handled in a hamhanded manner. Any one in sl very long could easily add to this list. Yes, i used to love SL, but lets face it, the current platform is basically unfixable, each patch 'fix' creates new unforeseen bugs. It was a good run and its sad that few if any of the new 20 or so virtual worlds out or coming out by the end of the year will have the content creation scope of sl. The corpse is beginning to smell and all the LL perfume spin isnt going to cover it up for long. Its a shame LL never really managed to execute on the promise SL had. We wont see any virtual world with its possibilities again soon. |

Oh, this is actually funny! I had not been logging in for a while, a friend who's new at SL told me to do so in order to meet him in-world, so I did, and found my avatars profile empty, search not responding e.t.c. I had actually forgotten all the issues connected with SL

I wonder if the problems stem from that voice stuff that's been getting so popular. As a Linux user, I'm shut out of it, but everywhere I go people are standing (or sitting) and not texting anything.
Also, MySQL is not a "toy database." Further, using open source is probably the biggest reason the fees here are not in the stratosphere. If you want something to kill SL, just have them start paying license fees on Oracle or some such and passing those costs onto you. |

Agreed, in fact MySQL is a VERY capable database and perfectly fine for SL. |

While I agree MySQL is a very capiable DB server, it also needs to be kept up to date (which last i heard they weren't even using 5.x yet correct me if i'm wrong) and it needs to be maintained by people that know mysql like the back of their hand. IF this is a db issue then yes it is time to upgrade the servers and the DB software for the love of pete (whoever he is)
Oracle is insanely expensive but MSSQL 2005 express would be a better choice imo. It is known for its ability to run extremely fast when dealing with Online ga...I mean "Communities" (eg - Lineage 2 uses it, World of Warcraft uses it etc) The only downside is rewriting the entire server, forums, website interface to use mssql code ^^ _____________________

EVEN YOU ARE THE BEST RIDER IN THE HISTORY, A HORSE CAN'T FLY Wow, step away from the caffeine and the capslock please. No, I don't think that I am better programmer/technician than LL staff.. but having been on the receiving end of the chewings when a tech doesn't do the job correctly the first time and TELLS the customer it's fixed (even when the item clearly is NOT - refrigerators are suppose to be cool, not hot!).. well, I'd consider firings. Yeah the program is complex, but you'd think after 4 YEARS, they'd have it semi-stable and have LEARNED to not post that an issue is 'resolved' when it's clearly not. It's not so hard to say, "We might have the issue plugged, but right now, it's more of a bandaid fix. We'll take the grid down tomorrow and see if we can fix it properly!" _____________________

Don't try to transfer linden $ either because you will loose it and the person you are transferring to never gets it, also campers are not recieving their camping money when they jump up to collect after camping all night. They should atleast keep us updated on when they should have things fixed but I am not holding my breath!

I don't agree that flitting around between proprietary systems will solve anything, it will only make a bad situation worse. |
