Hmm because very few of them can pretend to know stuff about cars, hardware, football, and sleezy pron videos? And the ones that can are welcome anyways :)

Well, I am clueless on cars, but if it's pc hardware, I'm good. No idea about football but porn, well, see pc hardware :)

I do pc repair/sales, it's quite amazing what some people have on their drives O.O

Surely the original poster is just kidding because the difference between using voice chat and having another resident reveal private information about you is that the first case is your own choice. No one forces you to use voice.

LOL. I was just thinking to myself as I was reading this thread that one way to tell if a male avi is really a rl woman is if they are well proportioned, handsome and well dressed (especially look at the shoes).

Ooh that's a fun exercise. Yes, no more of those <1.0, 0.0, 0.0> newbie shoes with non-matching outfits. (Who am I kidding- those shoes don't match anything!!!)

Oh- and they'd have PRIM HAIR FOR CRISSAKES!

If you know someone to be underage on sl is it against TOS to AR them?

Disclosure is only about resident-to-resident interaction, you can tell LL anything you know.

Are you meaning, if you knew they were underage and you told others about their age to get them AR'd and removed faster? Or are we just talking the standard, "I found this person is a minor, so I AR'd them?"

The former.. yeah, that might cross the line on the ToS, but the latter doesn't, because the minor would be in violation of the ToS.

Not always true, my AV is nearly always well dressed, even the shoes. I receive numerous comments on my taste and polite bearing. :)

Was talking "I found this person is a minor, so I AR'd them". By the way i do not know anyone underage on sl, was just throwing fuel on the fire.

Anyway i can not find anything in TOS about residents sharing infomation, only in the comunity standards. Which does not mention resident to resident, it mentions sharing infomation in general

A little difference in that you use voice YOU are outing yourself in that case. That's different from John running around saying "Hey. Mary is really a guy".

Er ... yes, which is exactly what I said.

Oddly enough, this often comes up with kid avvies, because someone "knows" were underage - that is, they see a kid avvie and put in an AR that we're underage. Or, in one case with a friend of mine, they grief kid avvies by claiming to know.

Why look, here's a handy article:
http://www.secondlifeinsider.com/2007/07/20/short-avatars-threatened-with-reprisals/

Either way, it's a royal pain to get worked out - LL requires a RL birth certificate or similar high level paperwork to get it cleared.

This reminds me that I went to a live music event at a SL venue where a guy was singing and playing guitar but his av. standing on stage by the mike was female - obviously he just didn't care in a 'what the heck' kind of way!!!!

Perhaps he had been Ruthed?

Ruthing is especially funny when it happens to Goreans.

Violation: Community Standards: Disclosure, First Life
Region: Badnarik
Description: Appearing to reveal the RL gender of a Resident.
Action taken: Warning issued.

...If i use voice in sl, and talk to someone, and then they tell someone else that by my voice i sound 'male' when my avatar is 'female' that is an violation of the TOS?...

Is the voice feature it's self a violation of the TOS?

Basically, if you are given any RL information about somebody in private (IM, private voice chat, or even open chat in a non-public area), or you obtain it in RL, it must remain private unless you are given permission to reveal it. If you were to get RL information by somebody revealing it in a very public area in SL (say, talking about it in a crowded club, putting it in their profile, or perhaps posting it on an SL-related blog), it MIGHT be OK to pass it on, but even then I would be wary.

I really don't know about the voice case. Framing it as your opinion rather than fact might be somewhat safer. After all, the voice might sound male because they're using a voice disguiser to sound like Rammstein. (Which might just be what I'll do if I get forced to use voice.)

Oh yes, IANAL (I Am Not A Linden) ;)
