From: June Trefoil Yes, the land on Heterocera between Spini and Jubata (the so-called Spini Gap) was in private hands. After successful negotiations, LL acquired the land and finished the railroad tracks there in February, 2009. LL even mounted a sign thanking the previous owner for relinquishing the land. I wonder if he'll be posting a sign near Clearwing/Paranthane? Looks like track is getting re-routed there, too. Looking forward to seeing the SLRR mainline a continuos path! From: someone I wonder if Michael will post another poll asking residents to help prioritize among the infrastructure projects to be done? He's done that a couple times. I think it's a good idea.

From: Yevad Doobie From what I understand, the Heterocera routes which aren't going to be used for the SLRR will be left without prims, as LL recognises that not everyone wants to drive/walk/ride on prims, much as they have left a load of trails at Snowlands. This kinda driving is much more fun if you ask me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZOoPWmbxL4Oh, I'd find that kind of disappointing; last I heard they were planning to complete several of those mapped routes, but were leaving unmapped paths as-is. I like roads because they're a good clue for avoiding banlines, especially if one is brave enough to drive with parcel boundaries turned off. (The alternative is to aim for the trees, which passengers seem to find disconcerting.) It's true, however, that aside from a couple of really implausible water crossings, the unpaved paths on Heterocera are largely navigable if one watches where one's going. In contrast, Jeogeot and Corsica (at least) had some paths that would thwart a tank assault, but those have mostly been paved now.

I always have parcel property lines showing, so it isn't an issue for me to be honest, though I agree about the markers in some instances. The only problem I can ever imagine with them would be if they weren't phantom and blocked someone gaining access from their land, like barriers on roads do sometimes...but some places wouldn't suit it at all, like the trails in Snowlands.
The most important thing I think is adding the rez points, which many of the new routes are getting...a rare example of LL listening to their users, although this is mostly down to the moles I think. I was contacted by the mole who has been building the great looking stuff along the routes on the west side of Corsica because one of my centres is right there. She checked if there was anything I didn't want to happen and put a rez-point right at the end of the route and told me she would put plenty along the route as she goes.
It kinda makes my parcel pointless now, as one of the main reasons for my centres was to provide somewhere to rez next to the routes which had few places to rez and I chose my parcels with this in mind (that one is right at the end of that loop)...but I'm certainly not complaining about it! I wish all routes had rez enabled all the way along to be honest, but I don't think we will ever see that. Out of all of my centres, the west Corsica one has the lowest traffic anyway, so it has always been a bit of a lemon.

OK, I have completed the journey now and here are the results: Total time less breaks: 27mins Sim total: 77 I drove at a moderate pace (3rd gear in one of my trucks) and I'm surprised it was so short actually. If anyone wants the full data including all the sim names, contact me in-world and I'll send you the notecard

Even Nautilus' main route is being built right now (they are calling it Route 12). It amazes me how they have decided to install so many new roads, when many of the old ones would benefit from being ripped up and rebuilt. It looks like we are heading for roads everywhere, built to a multitude of standards and no off-road routes anywhere...

Where to find a ol timey car?
02-05-2010 06:32
This thread has really sparked my notion to travel the continents and so I have gone car shopping. I'm interested in a vehicle that will putt along so I can enjoy the scenery. Everything I have found is too fast for my tastes. Can anybody point me in the direction of a dealership that sells something like a Model T? My driving isn't the best so I need to go slow. And yes this is my first and probably my last post. How terribly sad.

I honestly don't recall right now), I know that the Primouth cars, in first gear, can be fairly slow & good for low-speed touring. And they are classics that look pretty sharp. You'll find Primouth in Bay City - Imaginario http://slurl.com/secondlife/Bay%20City%20-%20Imaginario/50/220/24

This thread inspired me to take a trip on Route 8. I started at the south end and set the trip odometer. The bridge is out about a mile in. And after the hairpin at the north there is a small section that has a teleport. It jumps about a half-sim and then the route continues. It's a bumpy ride. Typical sim crossing roller coaster: going under the road, up into the clouds or sling-shooting, but always it settles down and we can continue. The entire length is 27.857 miles long. At at average speed of 25 mph it took me a little over an hour to reach the end.

I found the Primouth vehicles to be pretty good, and much MUCH easier to control then most of the useless twitchy stuff out there. Unfortunately the last time I tried to go look at them I found a blank parcel and a note from the creator saying something to the effect that Primouth Motors was no longer in business, so long, thanks for all the ..... barracudas.... *grin*.
I checked out the LM Mari just gave us - by golly there they are! No longer a whole region with dozens of cars on display, now it is a small store with vendors and 2 cars displayed ... but I'm very happy to see them at all.
There is another brand I find even better than Primouth, however. I have several vehicles from Apollon Motors and they are my favorites overall. IMO they're the easiest to manage and moderately attractive as well although not as elegant as Primouth. Driving around in low gear or even second you'll have plenty of time to sightsee and the steering is very smooth. Apollon is easy to find in search.
