I'm receiving that message when I try to connect to SL. I saw when the grid went up (only 300 people in-world as I write this). I did the download and install of the new version. But when I try to connect, I wait a long time at the loading screen, showing my last location, and finally get the message in my title.

How do I resolve this? What did I do wrong? Any suggestions would be most welcome.

There is always a huge flood of people attempting to get into the grid at the same time when an update is done. Suggestings? Either keep trying or wait a while and see what happens when the rush of log in attempts ease up.

Course, other people may have suggestions too, as we all scamper to get in.

::rolls eyes::

Is this something that happens on every major patch update? Perhaps the lindens need to come up with a more redundant login system after a major patch. Heck, even "rolling subnet bans" would do the trick. Common LL, you can do better than this!

Me to

Tried on 2 connections, 3 different pc,, 3 different id,s i have tried loads of times and cant log in, my husband has tried numerous times and can't get in, my friend has tried lots of times and can't get in...

These are the messages we are getting...

cannot connect to version manager

and

unable to get a secure connection and could be my computer clock being wrong OMG!

same on all 3 pc's

And if you look, there is very few online compared to how long the grid has been back open!

support page won't load for me on any of the 3 pc's so no way of letting the lindens know!

Please Lindens, if you do read the forums.... SOME of us can't get on!

I think the fact that SL is crack and there are thousands of people who have been without their fix for a number of hours, now that the dealer is back in town, everyone is rushing at once. If the message is still there by this evening SL time, then we should be concerned.

I'm now getting the same login failed, but before that, I wasn't. When 981 peeps were online, it looked like I was nearly logged on when the application crashed. I decided to reboot my PC (for good measure) and with 1053, I got that message "despite our best efforts .... something has gone wrong". When I tried to relog immediately thereafter, I got the login failed. I think they took the grid off-line again, because the status was 503.

Bummer : (

Yes same here, cant connect at all after installing the new version.

Was at first stating that "Cannot connect to version manager" as well. Now it just gives me a general cannot connect message?

Showing over 5000 people online...

And I cannot access the support page either.....bummer

Any ideas?

i'm among those unable to log in, and it does seem to be an epidemic. currently less than 5000 logged in which is shocking considering the time of day. I am also noticing that the website is slower than normal. hopefully nothing new broken :S

Yep, that's the message I'm getting. Nothing on the blog yet though!

Two attempts to log in. On the second attempt, the new T&C started to load, but didn't finish. I clicked the "I agree" button just for the hell of it, but then got the "despite our best efforts ...." message.

May have one more go tonight (I'm on GMT), but will probably just wait and see what tomorrow brings.

I'm struggling with the website and forums too. Lots of people looking for answers I guess?!

Oh dear. I saw this coming. Previously I was cheating on time and using the older version. Now that we're forced to use this new viewer, it just keeps crashing on me. :(

Well after 3 years, I suppose I shouldn't be surprised - has happened so many times after updates.

I am absolutely positive that the big corporate interests which LL is salivating after are impressed to NO END with LL's efficiency and technical expertise!!! <snark snark>

BUT....look on the bright side of this, we have land bots, the sheep bot and we're getting SOUND!! I am sooooo sure the highly desired sound feature will work PERFECTLY!!!
