One who rightfully won 11 oscars for LotR (although that wasn't the movie with the lawn mower scene).

It should have been, damn it!

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Right now the ONLY benchmark definition we Have for Broadly Offensive is "Offensive to One Linden" Hardly a fair and accurate benchmark IF that Linden happens to hold Fundementalist religious beliefs, OR is an extreme liberal, What if they are a Radical feminist, or a staunch mysogynist? There are many Individuals i would NOT like to have protecting Me from "Offensive materials" and i'm sure there are Many who wouldn't be happy with ME as the custodian of thier morals.

Is a Pool of Blood violent?
In it's self, No. Distastful, yes, but not necesarily Violent. There are any number of things that could cause one from an accident at the Blood bank, to a few Communicable tropical diseases. Very distasteful, but decidedly Non Violent. again, Context is everything. The OP asked a VERY specific question, Blood=Violent?
Simplest answer, and most accurate, No.

More and More questions like this one will be asked.
Is a wrench Violent? what if it's used to Hit someone?
Is a sheathed sword less violent than a Drawn one? What if they are forming an arch over a Wedding couple (Common at Military weddings)? Questioning like this we are Never going to come up with hard difinitive guidelines and the ONLY people who, at the moment CAN give us hard difinitive guidelines are Unwilling to because once they do they open up a Nightmare of legal, and ethical Challenges.

"Broadly offensive" MAY have sounded good in the Blogs at the time, But i'm betting now the Lindens are Cursing the moment it was first Posted.

Angel.

I was thinking of making something that involves an avatar lying dead in a pool of blood. Is that too violent?

No. Sadly however, I am not the person who gets to decide how much is too much.

As far as I'm concerned if a vampire sim wants to be surrounded by an entire ocean of red blood I say go for it.

We ARE cartoons in here.

Well, one way of interpreting the definitions, is that an inert body, whatever its arrangement, is the opposite of violent. Things don't get much less violent than a completely unmoving lump of stuff, or a pool of any liquid you care to paddle in.

Eh, I dunno. Going back to real world examples, photographs of dead people on rotten.com can often evoke a sense of violence, albeit in the past tense.

Yeah, that's kinda how I feel about it too, but I also have a very active imagination... *shudders* I can deal with 'graphic' violence in the games and in shows, but when it's RL, my mind just can't handle it. Kinda strange, they argue that violent video games make one more prone to violence, but here I sit as an example of "DOES NOT!!"

hmm i had a little project aboutusing scupties to make a guro picture i saw someday.

Two persons kissing eachothers all 4 forelimbs on bothe freshly torn off, with na good deal of blood.

Thought it was depicting an interesting duality.

That would go in the broadly offensive?

Sounds like a texture you could sell a lot of - to the people who try to drive neighbors into selling them their land...

Frodo attacking Sauron with a lawn mower? I agree, that would have improved the chaotic plot of "Return of the King" quite a bit :)

I think Jackson only dropped that idea because there wouldn't be a need for Samwise if Frodo had a lawn mower.

It can be horrific, but it isn't, to be pedantic, violent.

Just saying :)

I'm afraid the real reason that scene was dropped was on the day of shooting, Frodo's stunt double was orientating himself with said mower .. and accidently trapped Pippin's feet in it.

It took us aa-ges stitching his toes back on and crikey did he ever scream!! Now *that* was violent!

How can the people who built a world including a 'combat' sim decide what's "too violent" ?

Or is that really just the same as the guy in the RHPS t-shirt and glittery codpiece having the nerve to tell me what's morally objectionable and broadly offensive??

It just depends on context. I had someone IM me about making a crucifixion animation for one of the Roman sims - (I wondered if that was how they dealt with griefers) - but I guess it was just part of the general ambience in that context.
