The instructions say to click on your friend's name from the Friends Online list and be instantly teleported to them.

I wonder how many people are being caught in the act.

I thought we rectified this problem with the new friend's list tools in SL. Then they go and reverse the entire change by putting the same exact ability on the web. Amazing.

I would hope any of my friends would IM me before dropping in. Otherwise they wouldn't be on my friends list much longer. I don't appreciate unannounced guests, in RL or SL.

Agreed.

Is there anyway this option can be turned off?

Yes, you can remove individually freinds ability to map you

Wait - You mean the Website list allows people to map you - who you have said cant map you?

I can't seem to do it to those that haven't set me as able to map them, so, I'm gonna say.. "NO, thank goodness!"

I will always IM people before teleporting.
That is just a basic form of etiquette.
The web interface does not make that possible.
So it is useless.
Just a way to spy on people.
And maybe a reason to remove the map permissions on some of your friends.
Not a nice thing to do :(

In that case theres no issue.

Of course why mapping has to exist at all, I do not know.

well I like it so I can spy on my hunny...
so I can see if my closest friends are having fun without me...
ok so I'm half kidding...

BUT one main reason I like it because it quickly tells me which of my bestest friends are online and not having to sort through my massive list :)

Mapping is there so your friends can find you. I give that right to very few people. It's not on by default. All you have to do is turn that right off. I can't see most of my friends on the web, except for one.

would love the ability to organize your freinds list

Now that would be something people could use.

"Business contacts"

"Close freinds"

"Casual freinds"

"People in the unfreind que"

etc.

Hehe get a home security script. Just add access to the person with you. You can have group on land checked, so only your friends can access land, but the security script to only have that person with you with access. Cut the security script off. But if you doing your thing, cut it on. It will boot them in 6-10 seconds. :) Also, set your landing point to be on the edge of your parcel so they don't have time.

Another fix is to set the landing point on your parcel to outer edge and then lock your home doors :)
They will be on land, but can't get in the house.

About the mapping issue on the website friends list, as i stated before you cannot map someone on that list either unless they gave you the rights. The only exception is you can use a different account to log in next to them then the one they gave mapping rights for. Say for example, I'm logged into the website as Yiffy Yaffle and my friend gave me mapping rights. I can click his name on the link and it will launch SL. I can choose to log in as another account and be next to them. As long as they gave you mapping rights you can do it. if they didn't then i see no worry.

About the peeping tom thing, it has been a issue since the dawn of SL and will always be here if you fail to uncheck mapping rights before you start cybering.

There is something like IM's for that:

Me: Eh, Sil... you are online? How are you. Haven't seen you for a while.
Sil: Good. Good. And you?
Me: I am fine as well. Are you busy?
Sil: No. Want to shop? I found this great new mall.
Me: Sure. Send me a TP.

Dropping on friends without asking is a no go for me.

Morwen.
