A very interesting report by research house, ComScore, found that in March, 61 per cent of active Second Life residents were from Europe, compared to 19 per cent from North America and 13 per cent from Asia Pacific.

It went on to say, "With nearly 800,000 active residents in Europe, Second Life is proving to be popular on an international scale. It's especially fascinating to note that the number of active German residents exceeds the number of active residents in the entire US."

What chance of LL relocating to Frankfurt anytime soon?

It's because Americans are all still playing WoW and think SL is a game.

Probably not much of a chance. Why would they? All their assets are in San Francisco, CA, USA with other offices scattered throughout the US and Europe (and probably other places). It isn't easy to move a company.......let alone move out of a country.

Besides.........what difference does it make?

id like to know where they got their numbers

800k active european users ...but only 30 to 40k log in at a time sounds fishy to me as to what they consider active

Well, if LL was in Germany and was banning people in accordance with German law they'd be no huge outrage and no fear that they they might start following the laws of other countries and banning politics, religion, homosexuality and so on next.

These are only based on signup location........really they can`t be true. An also does not reflect native users......... Can`t see there are less Canada users the Japanese here this alone shows this stat is not correct and can`t be.

Hahahh Japan user in the top listing think about. Most are just relocated western people army, navy etc, teachers, etc..... native users are less then 1% and does not count ( should not count )for workers paid to do R&D for LLABS.

Does this mean we can expect more German TV reporters setting us up (err I mean filming us)?

I got invited to join a group at some German nightclub. Though I had never heard of it, nor am I German. I do enjoy listening to Einstürzende Neubatten on occasion so I went to visit and found plenty of German being spoken. Heard some Rammstein or something playing on the jukebox. German hottie chicks were dancing. Some bearded guy in a dress showed up, and they appeared to mock his appearance. I left after seeing this display of intolerence. ;)

Agreed!

I think some of it has to do with work ethics/values as well.

It is sad that we even care about what nation-state people are oppressed by.

I'm watching the European userbase growth with interest. LL opened up the Texas colo facility last year as a result of the growth experienced. As has been pointed out before, the European userbase is now larger than the US userbase and it would make sense for the next colo facility opened to be based in Europe. After that an Asian colo facilitiy to cash in on (ahem.... service...) the growing Chinese market.

European residents presently have much higher ping times than US based residents as a result of the greater distance from the colo facilities. This is something I'm aware of as I live in London. I presume Asian based SL residents experience similar high ping times.

All your colo's are belong to us :D

considering they dont go into any detail about how they got their numbers this article is speculation at best.

the thread title should read "there MIGHT be more Germans than Americans"

From my purely unscientific experience of actually living in Second Life for 2 years Id say this was definitely false.

Reguardless its obvious Germany is a big market and it explains why LL was so quick to jump when the German Reporters said "Boo"

Seems Americans made WoW and Americans made SL. We American like to play with the toys we make. Sounds like good ethics/values to me.

We Americans are frightened of people from other countries. People from other countries make fun of us for being clueless about the world outside the United States. So we want to get away from them.
