*giggles* Yesterday I was for the first time caged …. and that after being in SL more then a year . I was walking around in Svarga to find some nice places to make pictures (I love that place) as suddenly some person started to talk to me. It seemed a nice conversation. When I thought the conversation was over, I moved on… and sudden this person comes after me and drops a cage on me. On the IM's I did send that person there was no responce, so I decided to fill in an AR. It must have been a funny sight to see me standing there in that cage while I filling in an AR. After I did send the AR, I TPed home and then back again to Svarga. Just a small annoyance, nothing more. But what I felt a bit bad about was that the cage was left behing in the wonderful landscape of Svarga. Luckily there was an auto-return enabled on the sim… but still that ugly cage was there for 30 minutes. I did write a sorry about that to the sim-owner. Is there a way I can remove that cage myself? There was no take or delete option available. Morwen.

Hi Morwen Pretty sure only the owner of the object who placed it there or the sim owner (or group permitted officer) can remove things. Dread to imagine what would happen if we all could move anything!

No, because the cage is the property of the person who rezzed it, and you cannot delete someone else's property. A responsible scripter would include an auto-delete function in the cage so that after a certain period of standing empty, it will delete itself.
I speak as the author of a caging system myself, and I took great care in scripting that there should never be unused cages littering the landscape.
And before you start accusing me of arming griefers, it's a system that can only be used with the consent of the cagee.

I just thought that maybe it not placed by the landowner (or someone with the rights) it could be removed someone else.

I know that there more kind of cages then those used by griefers. And to that, I know someone (RL) how has a wonderful collection of ancient swords and blade. Must I blame/attack him for every crime or wound caused by that kind of weapons? Guess not. Morwen.

Cages in Svarga

From: Morwen Bunin Hehe. I already suspected something like that. I just thought that maybe it not placed by the landowner (or someone with the rights) it could be removed someone else. I to came across a cage - (hidden mainly) in that other beautiful landscape of Acropolis Gardens. It is a shame that these unwanted objects can't be better identified and swept up by responsible citizens. Morwen - do visit Acropolis Gardens if you haven't already been there - lets hope the cager isn't following you around !!

It seems to me the best point here is the one about responsible coders - though I am puzzled that cages should be left anywhere, since most responsible landowners would want to set auto-return on their parcels anyway... though the question then arises, with tidy-up cages, would more people be inclined to cage more often?

I didn't mean "you" singular, here (= Morwen), but "you" plural (= general readership of the thread). From: Gummi Richthofen the question then arises, with tidy-up cages, would more people be inclined to cage more often? No, because a tidy-up cage is just as annoying to the person inside it, and that's what matters.

Ahh. Okay, I understand. Sorry for the misunderstanding. In Dutch (my main language) we have two separated words for these two forms of “you”. “Jij” (=Daisy) and “jullie” (as the general group of readers). English can be quit confusing at times . Morwen.

Oddly enough, English made the same distinction in historical times, with "thou" and "ye", and then lost it. And in French the distinction between "tu" and "vous" has evolved away from number into an expression of social relationships ... and so on. Chacun a son gout.

Literally, "Each one to their own taste". Each language evolves to what its users think is important.
Meanwhile, I must say that Morwen's experience strikes me as a bit weird. The only time I've been maliciously caged was by a griefer running amok at Sarah Nerd's place, caging everyone in sight. One doesn't expect it from someone that one's just been chatting to.

Both times I've been caged, it was by persons who had been conversing with me beforehand. However, the conversations were not exactly fine intelectual discourse. Instead, they had been rude and impolite, the second containing lots of aggressive sexual talk. So I kind of expected that the end result would be the brandishing of weapons of one kind or another. After all, if you can't woo a gal with swearing and rudeness, you can only hope that assault or violence will make her swoon.

Yes, but being threatened is not exactly "chatting". Morwen said it was a nice conversation ...

My caging experiences have been in sandboxes. When I get caged I find the name of its owner and post a message in chat (shout) including the griefer's name in capitals.

If the cage is set to being physical you can use a push object item to launch it off the Sim. I belive there are several items like claws that can push physical objects. If the cage flies off grid, it is returned to the owner. If the cage is launched into connected Sims all you did was make it someone else's problem. Always aim off grid.

Yes Most of these cages are active physical objects. They have to be to do what they were designed to do. Many high end combat systems have a feature that easily deals with cages. In the Psitech system, it is called "disrupt". I've used it on cages used on me before, and they are gone within seconds. Other systems may call it something different, but all make use of the LSL commands. Disrupt doesn't push it to someone else's land, outside of the sim.... it knocks it off the grid, returning it to it's owner. My last caging was in December. I was at A Double K ranch looking at horses, not chatting with anyone, when hit with the cage. First, I edited the cage to find out who did it (object owner), then I disrupted the cage, then I activated my sim radar to find them (100+m away), then I flew to them and asked them why they had attacked me (with non-physical shields on so another cage would not work). It was a young girl who said that she had thought that i was her mother and she hated her mother. hmmm with a daughter like that, i suspect that the feeling is mutual. She appologized and tp'd away. Was she wrong? Yes. Was it deliberate? yes. Was it malicious? probably not... at least not towards me.

I was on Help Island (beside Public Orientation Island) today looking around and came up to a skeleton AV and said something like "Oooo scary!"... and he put some kind of spinning rings around me that trapped me, and then blasted me off into the sky over 2 sims away. Is this caging? Aren't things like this supposed be no-no's for Help Island? escpecially since the person had a "Help People" (or something) group tag on... you'd think that means they should be nice to people.

I was caged and followed today hehe so i led him to my place before I logged off
I was out window shopping again and a guy wanted lindens he posed nicely for all abuse reports filed its the first time I managed to take screenies and everything wonder if it will do any good. In any event I dragged him to my place (well he was kinda following me somehow..not sure how as you can't see people on the map anymore but I wanted to see if I could uncage myself not by porting but by returning it to him (experiment I guess)
Anyhow since this guy was busy posing I went through the same exercises trying to decide if i could do other stuff with it. The sit no longer works on them at least I could not get them to work. Porting obviously works but now there are these cages stuck all over SL because the guy was doing it indoors..
Anyhow no they can't be deleted but they can be returned if its done on your own land obviously apart from that porting works if they dont follow again no idea how I was followed but anyhow such is life

No its the same idea though the cage looks like a cage they can launch you into space his was just more "fancy" they go there because I guess people dont know how to deal with it or something i dunno but they seem to be out in force lately guess they are borred..

Sounds like a 'newbie' cage, instead of tping home and back again, use camera zoom to look 'outside' the cage and choose 'sit here' on an object closeby, or even the cage itself. You will be free in a few seconds.
There are 'devices' that can 'remove' a cage, but this falls under the heading 'my gun is bigger than your gun!.... Oh yeah, well my Dad is bigger than .....'.
