That's like saying clowns, mimes and actors are gay because they wear make-up.

Or rock stars! :D

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Oh for God's sake! I was in TV and actor's make-up for years and years. So let's not stereotype me as stupid regarding the various alternate, expected, and functional applications and usefulness of male make-up, okay?

And just how many of you tossing rocks at me have actually *seen* the Aitui male make-up skin to which I refer here? Sheesh!

And will a moderator please delete or lock this now well off-topic thread as it moves ever closer to personal attack?

Who did that? When? All I saw was someone pointing out the inaccuracy of a generalization via examples, to which I chose to add one.

I have. I'm not arguing the fact that they're not for everyone, just the terminology you chose to use in voicing your opinion.

There were no personal attacks, only a few questions about the appropriateness of your word choice. I've seen much worse on even these fairly firmly moderated forums, so you might want to get past the notion that anyone who doesn't agree with you is attacking you.

Let's not misrepresent my words, Ann. I did not say there were any personal attacks, I suggested this thread seemed to be moving in that direction as anyone can read.

Oh, the objection was not to my opinion but to *how* it was expressed? My, my.

Naughty has two mens skins, and they are pretty much the gold standard. Dante, and Gabriel. However, they just opened up a new body shop for men called Dante.

Thanks Cristalle for clearing that up, I wasn't sure which were brand names and which were item names. :)

Well firstly, thank you to every single person who has recommended my shop, I`m extremely glad you guys are finding things you like there, makes it all worth while!

I am not sure if it`s "proper" for me to post in this particular thread but as the creator of the aitui advance skinline (Which I assume is being referred to) I thought I would share that the eyeliner/eyeshadow skins were not made with homosexual men in mind. Now, there is nothing wrong with homosexual men, but I would have to say that the majority of people who buy the eyeliner skins are *not* homosexual. I myself am a completely heterosexual male who opts for eyeliner on my skins, it`s my personal preference. I understand the eyeliner skins are not for everyone, which is why only a few of the skins actually even have eyeliner to begin with, the rest are "normal."

This thread has awakened me to the fact that some men must walk into my skin shop and think "Ew Eyeliner" and walk right back out. With that said, I will be remodeling my skin section, keeping the eyeliner and no-eyeliner skins in seperate areas which makes for easy "preference shopping."

Skins are an extremely personal choice, eyeliner/eyeshadow is not for everyone, the best thing to do is shop around at different stores, try demos, and find a skin that suits your shape. For best results be sure to wear facial lighting with your skin.

I really like the skin I use because it's not made up and it's not gnarly rugged. There are several beard options and it's realistic without being photoreal, which I think looks out of place in the SL environment. I believe the brand is RAC but what that stands for I don't remember.

(EDIT: What I would REALLY like is a nice fair skin with a strawberry blonde crewcut. So many of the "light" skins available still seem too tanned to me or are just pasty.)

I'm going to be keeping an eye on that men's fashion blog.

I have. My male alt wears one of those. But then again, I'm a girl, so my male alt is obviously a girly guy! ;)

And Ann is right. This isn't personal attack. It's disagreeing over generalisation and way of expression of opinions.

Go look in your wife's/GF's/sister's/ random female you are stalking's closet. You will find 700 different tops. Go look in your closet. 7 shirts, 3 of which are the same style just different colors. :)

Why should SL be that much different than RL?

Exactly. I have probably 6 little black dresses in my RL closet. each one is a different shade of black.

"Stalking?"

Can you be a tad less sarcastic next time please when quoting my posts?

That uncalled-for arrogance aside, you're correct.

Actually, that's pretty low on the Meter for Chris.

I will defend your right to wear make-up, sir (madam, or some of both). Please defend mine to find it disgusting on avatars wearing male parts and we'll all get along just fine.
Defend your right to consider me "disgusting"?

That seems fair.

No. Just no.
At first I thought it was some uncool out-of-towner for whom a decade of metrosexuality had completely passed-by; but then I realised we were dealing with somebody whose stereotypical ideas are determined by videos in the Prelinger Archive.

http://www.archive.org/details/Perversi1965
http://www.archive.org/details/boys_beware

You get the drift.

I have to say, I even owned a chunk of land near Provincetown last year and I never met a single homo male in a skin with make-up. By and large, I'd say gay men in SL go for a masculine look. I chose my own skin with dripping eye make-up because (i) it would look well with goth-like clothes I wear and (ii) I was tired of looking like every other guy in SL. People seem to associate it more with emo than gay anyway. That wasn't my intention either.

I get good comments generally. Even Matthew Linden complimented me a few months ago; it seemed he wanted a similar look. Unless I'm mistaken, he's married with kids. Anyway. I think it's a combination of things that produce the effect others like, not just the skin. The eye make-up provides dramatic effect, but I'd be nothing without my shape, clothes and stand-poses. ;)

Unfortunately, too many people take disagreeing with them as a personal attack.......

Perhaps, but I think they're overrated.

Agreed,
I looked high and low to replace my DFO skin (finally retired it a few months ago)

In my opinion, the Naughty male skins had nice face work but the bodies looked too air-brushed and pastel-colored (hard to decribe......just didn't look right)

the other skins I looked at were variations of the same....good face work, bad body.....good body work, bad face.

I ended up with a Max skin because it seemed to have a good mix of both..maybe not the best, but the best balance overall.

@ Ajnos Debevec: I am in-world now. IM, send me a TP and take me shopping if you think you know places for men's clothes I have not visited in my 9+ months of searching and shopping and being on-line roughly 12-hrs each and every day in SL.

Let's do it!!

Sorry Amras... I just saw your note... I got most of my list of places to go on this helpful thread.. so go or it.

Thomas skin

Hi, all, looking for the Thomas skin from SF that dates back to earlier this year. My guy friend bought it and would like to get a tanner version if such a thing exists . . . the only info we have is the name . . . it has a beard and some chest hair. Thanks for any help you can give. Does anyone know what SF stands for?

It's not just having the best skin and hair. You can have the best of sl but if you don't know what to do as far as making your features correctly then you have nothing. You need to know how to use the sliders in your facial features. As well as for the rest of your body.

You see men with exaggerated shoulders, looking like a clothes hanger in their shapes. Or longer then normal arms. If you don't know what to do and from what you can see in sl, many don't, then it doesn't matter who's skin and hair you have as you still won't look right. And it means nothing.

Actually, it's because you're using the word 'gay' as if it meant something bad, or negative.

It's not? Who would of thunk it!

So I made a male alt....decided to after reading this thread. I'm laughing my head off as I try to look at skins.

Men are much much more difficult than females, I think.

I have no interest in my guy being a hot young thing...I want him to be a 40-50+ year old gentleman in age appropriate clothes, a bit of grey in his hair, etc.

Where do I start?

I recall from a previous thread Lila natural skins and Adam n Eve have old man skins. I checked them out and they do look like old man skins and cost a lot.

I have... I've also seen men's skins with eyeliner at a number of other places. I think they're pretty sexy, personally. Just not for everyone.

From: Amras Alder

Sorry honey, but men with parts wearing a full boat of eye and face make-up is just plain frickin' gay in most all appearance books except yours.

Actually, most of the guys I've seen wearing eyeliner in RL are younger guys who are into the goth/club/rock music scene. I've seen several men who look better with eyeliner than without. Sexual orientation has nothing to do with it, it's a fashion choice. Some men like the look and are able to pull it off, some aren't into it. Just like SL.

I'd also add another vote for Max's skins-- beautifully done.

I don't want an OLD man, just a middle aged guy (not a 20 something kind of guy.)
