With all that is going on and prices dipping a bit, whoever is bidding in the last hour today needs to be really smart about things. There is a potential to get a tremendous bargain and a potential to get really burned.

Do you think LL would ever give advance notice on a sim dropping to auction plan and schedule? Wouldn't that stabilize things? Or do they like things unstable because lower confidence means lower prices? It just seems like a lame way to go about things.

Uh, every sim at auction is over 11/sqm with an hour to go. Not exactly sure how you're gonna get a tremendous bargain out of that.

Who is Jasoon Xi and what is he going to do with the three Mainland sims he just won?

Including one for $3691.00. Very peculiar. If he keeps 'em all, that's going to be a pretty hefty tier. Maybe he's buying them for a RL corporation.

the funny thing is that someone can manage all these with just 1 sim tier fee. if he finds buyers ofcourse at these levels.

How does that work? You don't get charged tier for having all five? I thought if you owned land at a certain level, even for one minute, you had to pay tier on it.

If you pay for them, you get a week to take ownership of them. So you could buy 5 in the auctions, take one, sell it, take the next one, sell it etc.You don't pay tier on land until you actually take it.

It would make sense if he believed prices would go back up, to buy as many as he can now.

or maybe when you sell undercost. you can sell a sim in minutes for a loss.
so even in one day you can move like stephen said 5 and 6 sims and still having 1 sim for tier.

At the end ofcourse you will miss some hundreds bucks.
This is the new model in sl. buy at 100 , sell at 90. you don't make it for profit but for a loss

Thank you Stephen, for single-handedly giving land brokers a good name.

I seriously doubt Stephen is buying the sims he buys to sell for a loss. Ever taken a loss on one, S?

I don't really work out profits on a sim-by-sim basis, so it's hard to say. I don't expect to retire on what I make on the sim I got tonight though :)

Of those 8 sims, 6 of them are now owned by Gov Linden and are not set for sale to anybody. Something looks very fishy with those. If I didn't know any better, I'd suspect a throwaway account to bid on auctions and not pay, slowing the release of land into the system to try and keep prices higher.

Very interesting. Though, I hardly think that such a tactic would work in the long run. Does auction bidding require a verified credit card?

Has LL plugged the auction hole that allowed the sale of non-paying winning bids, to go to the second highest bidder?

I would wonder whether their best defense against non-paying winning bidders might be to simply immediately relist the property on auction, with the 2nd highest bid still in place, with another X number of hours to go on the auction?

Actually, I take it back. If it's a throwaway account, it's a very well prepared one!

Well, it would work if the person doing it is using hacked verified accounts for the bidding. I imagine someone who would be sneaky enough to come up with such a plot wouldn't want it traced back directly to their account.

I would venture to say that it's plausible that the 2nd highest bidder on some of those auctions was either another hacked account OR they saw the current land sales prices and said 'no thanks' to the second chance offer.

That's kinda a lot of effort in order to get the opportunity to risk $2800 to make a couple hundred dollars (at most).

This is very true. However, if Stephen's hypothesis is accurate, the individual in question would have a significant amount of current land holdings already that he/she/it is trying not to lose money on, and would be trying to keep the price of current land high by reducing the release of new land. It sure as heck ain't me though, so this is all just speculation.

Anyone ever suspect some buyers are Linden Lab employees? Wouldn't surprise me...

It's not accurate, I already took it back:

A group the buyer is in does have significant land holdings though.

Maybe I'm missing something but it seems like Rollie is being sold for 0.9/sqm less than it was bought for.

Are there other nice areas in Rollie that would "make up for" the lower prices for the remaining parts being sold?

If there were a sim with some nice areas that I wanted for myself, I'd be willing to purchase the entire sim, keep the 16,000 or whatever square meters that I wanted, and sell the rest at a "loss", on average, per square meter. In the long run, I'd probably be doing better than purchasing the 16,000 that I liked on the open market.

Heh, I meant that the entire 65536sqm is being sold for 730k in one lump. It's been on the market for an hour now.
