When do they get around to building the roads?

As I look at land in various areas of the continents, you can see long stretches of protected land that one assumes will become a road. Yet some of these sims are certainly not brand new and still there is no road.

Do the raods ever actually get built? I will certainly volunteer to build out parts of it. It isn't really all that difficult (other than bridges).

Roads are a pretty low priority when everyone can fly and teleport at will.

Protected Land isn't just for roads. It's also to provide a buffer space between parcels, and serves to ensure that there is at least someplace in a sim that won't be locked up with ban lines. Often it's used for rivers, as well.

Contact a Linden directly, to volunteer to build roads or other stuff.

The "road" land by my store in Nha Na is like a strip of ploughed field. Pretty ugly... would be nice if they did *something* with it. There's a lovely huge temple build across from it. A nice road would make the whole thing look nicer.

Unlikely they will take you on tho I'm afraid - think about it - they would have to give you building rights to Lindenland!. Anyway, as has been said already - in SL you can teleport or fly anywhere, vehicles of any kind are only for fun - no practical purposes - who needs roads in such a world. It would be nice from an aesthetic point of view to have a network of roads or canals in the Lindenspace - I vote for canals! :)

You'd be surprised how many times I hear people bemoaning the lack of facilities to drive or sail on that cover more than just a small part of a region somewhere.

Given the amount of people selling vehicles... I really don't understand why it's not promoted more. Our land is on the junction of two Linden roads, and we get a lot of people driving by.

Cat I'm with you. Lets have more waterways - lets have more boats - lets have either less access ban lines - or more intelligent ones that let boats "escape"

Canals are nice, peaceful, a great way to see the countryside (or cityscape)

Have you tried the SL Rail network?

Linden designed and run (at least it is on Linden land) it rattles through the sims stopping at "user designed" stations.

I haven't found a timetable for it (anyone know more about this?) and the single car trains don't run that frequently.

Amusingly (well at least to me) my last trip on it ended with the train off the rails in the middle of nowhere (don't worry I wasn't hurt - not planning on a law case) - see even Lindens have trouble with vehicles.

I would like to know how the driverless train "finds its way" because I would very much like to consider an unmanned "Tourist Water bus" through some of the more attractive parts of SL. Although I have this germ of an idea the "control" aspect is not something I have really got worked out. Ideas anyone?

Puting some trains on the tracks would be nice. I was somewhere there were roads and trolleybuses. I got the impression you could jump on them as they went by but can't find the place now.
Yes, banlines are a bane of travellers.
I demand banlines are banned!!! <scratches head>

Aaron, have you been to Svarga? I'm pretty certain it's there that there's a tour bubble thingummy that uses an autopilot or somesuch.

Roads look good even if you can fly over them, and they lend a sort of structure to a sim. Makes it more like "real" land.

There is a roadway with tram tracks and overhead wires on the Beta Grid, but I haven't seen any trams on it.

English > American translation: Tram = Streetcar!

By the way, which side of the road do we drive on in SL? - We all came here from different nationalities - some drive on the left (like UK, Australia, India etc.) others on right and a few, dare I say, drive in the middle.

Categorically not Caledon Arikinui. I put Caledon on my 'must-see' stack a long while back. Unfortunately it's a First In, Last Out stack! :(

From experience Conifer, staying on the road at all is a major achievement.

Otherland has some beautiful water for sailing, everything from openwater sims to islands to sail around to rivers to cruise. Ban lines are prohibited by the covenent. I believe that Azure Islands also has some nice water. Then of course there is the Hollywood/Nantucket complex.

There are lots of places to sail on the mainland but you always risk running into those pesky ban lines
