Hello, anyone know how to get monetary compensation for the so much unscheduled downtime and bugs that have been occuring in the last about 1-2 weeks?

I tried to message the lindens, to billing, from the website, but no answer :-(

First off, there needs to 24 hours of total *unplanned* downtime for you to have a shot.

Did you hit that yet?

Really? I thought LL wasn't obligated to give you anything for downtime.

I'm in the European time zone, and I surely had login and other problems for at least 2-3 days in a row from last Wednesday. And more, sporadic 'system now offline for a few hours' after that.

I think it would be most effective if LL offered us prorated tier for downtime and then charged the balance to the griefer who caused it. Take a few of these buggers to court for several thousand dollars expences caused by their little pranks and word will get around that you don't want LL on your butt.

But to answer your question is indeed twenty-four hours according to the last published policy I read.

That used to be the case without exception, but LL has since made some exceptions for unplaned downtime. Check out their billing policy page which is now linked from the ToS (where it says that LL isn't obligated to give refunds of any sort except those outlined in the billing policies document).

6. Under certain circumstances, you may receive service credit for unscheduled downtime. ....
"Unscheduled Downtime" is an unplanned or unscheduled interruption in Service availability for a period of at least twenty-four (24) hours during which you are unable to access the Service. Unscheduled Downtime is measured from the end of the time the Service is 100% unreachable for a period of at least twenty-four (24) hours until Service is once again restored.

It goes on to list more specifics of what is and isn't unscheduled downtime.

The answer to this, though you're not going to like it:

You don't.

You are S.O.L in that regard.

It's not gonna happen.

Darn, I was hoping you were going to bring out the ever-helpful "cost of a gumball" explanation. :)

Non-Premium Accounts
09-18-2006 16:22
Hypothetically, what would be the recourse for non-premium account holders? And no, I'm not trying to be funny here. There are many people, myself included, who purchase land through another party, not Linden land, and we pay tier just as premium account holders do. I would think the best solution in that case would be for LL to issue a credit to the land holders (Anshe Chung, Azure Islands, etc.) that can then be filtered down to their customers in the form of tier credits or something similar. Of course, we're relying on the land Barons to be honest about that, but the ones I work with seem pretty honest.

I know the idea of service credit seems a bit nit-picky to some, but I can't think of a better way to get Linden Labs to take their upgrades more seriously than to hit them in the wallet. Let them pay out service credits a couple of times to all their customers for these bad upgrades, and I bet they'll think twice about using us as a form of "public beta testing."

I'm not making that up. Go back through the Secondcast archives and you'll hear Phillp Linden state that very concept himself.

Well, the company is "Linden Research", you can't expect them to be anything more than a facilitator of experiments. If you report bugs on Preview, then these problems might be avoided.
And no, you don't pay tier. You pay Anshe or whomever compensation for THEIR tier, which goes to LL in the end, but not directly, so it's not tier.

Griefers / Terrorists
09-18-2006 17:46
First of all from the TOS: “you shall not be entitled to any refunds of fees for interruption of service or failure to perform”

I recall these conversations before in the old SL forums. I have always been intrigued by these thoughts. When I think of “griefers” within SL I think of them like our modern day real world terrorists (of course griefer damage is for the most part far less significant). In the LL TOS it says it is our world and with that they have little control over the “quality, safety, morality, legality, truthfulness or accuracy of various aspects of the Service.” We have absolute freedom in SL to do as we please. For everything we ask LL to protect us from we will lose some respective freedom within SL … maybe slowly evolving the LL into some police of sorts. Frankly I think I can deal with the griefing so I can avoid being pulled over by a Linden on a Linden road for speeding or long waits to get through security checks at LL checkpoints. Think of the inconveniences in RL that comes from legal bureaucracy and think about how the lack of that bureaucracy is what makes SL so special and so free. Just be careful what you wish for.

are intermitent downtimes, cumulative so if after four days having SL has been down 6 hours each day, will that count as the 24 hours required to have them give credits?

another question, this one perhaps can't be fully answered by resis, wouldn't it be better if they gathered the recent average income of each resident and payd them in L$ the proportional amount for the time sl wasn't running fully?

wtf...

I've only played this game less that 2 weeks and...I was wondering...what's up with this game...and all this bug stuff and shutting down grids.

I've never seen so much chaos in any game I've played.

From my understanding it wasn't like this before...or at least not as much.

Is someone diliberatly trying to shut the game down with self replicating scripts, or is someone just playing with scipts in a sandbox and it goes haywire...they go opps then they run away?

I'm not sure if permission could be given for self replication or if there is a way to lock it world wide and then hand out permissive scripts to those who need it for thier sim, without having the whole sim vunerable to attacks.

I really don't think you're adding to the conversation here in a non-inflamitory and on-topic way...

My interpretation is that LL will pay out 1/30th of your service fees for every 24 hours of unscheduled downtime. HOWEVER, their definition of downtime is a 100% inaccessable grid. I don't know if Linden only access counts though. I think as long as there's a non-Linden in world, it is not considered down, and thus doesn't count towards the downtime-o-meter.

Well, no. They *do* allow the grid to go back up for limited periods, but I am well into 20+ hours of NEARLY UNUSABLE TIME!!!

Now it's Datura Fairchild with the damned replicating objects?
