I wish the SL police would arrest people that make sweeping generalizations about 100% of any group.

Would 99% have been a better number?

Only slightly. Some where around 1% better.

I am bothered by your generalization that most are not griefers.

Well I'm sorry to hear that but I did not say that at all. I will say that I have read about one group that provides security services for religous and university sims, and from what I read about them I do honestly believe that they are a not bunch of thugs or greifers.

Actually, I'd just read your post wrong. I thought it said 1% _would be_ better. Oops.

Personally, I find police in SL to be silly, but not really griefers all that often...just people that think they have more power than they do. Security is a little better, and does serve a purpose.... but never ever seen militant forces of any kind.

I have some personal frustrations with some of the "SL Police" folks out there. I think many are there for the sense of power that comes with a badge and uniform. Some are griefers, some are "vigilantes," and some others have their own agendas.

Trouble comes when they decided they're not roleplaying, and take on that vigilante role. They may mean well, but they're not the GTeam.

Yes, me too, and I feel so bad for the people who think the SL Police are 'real' and are terrified that something is going to happen to them, now that the SL Police have taken notice of them. I've had 2 griefings on my sim that were done by members of the SL Police. They were targeting a particular resident who had angered them, but we all suffered through it. The ones i've encountered don't mean well at all, they just want to scare people who don't know any better, and throw their virtual weight around.

There are dozens of different "SL Police" type groups. Some small percentage of them are not in it for the power trip or to grief. It's a case of a barrel full of bad apples spoils the single good apple buried underneath them.

If I need help with a griefer (unlikely), I'd rather call the Justice League or the GLC.

i remember at the info hubs we were always on non physical and disrupting traps and helicopters that were shooting at everyone and just about anything you could think of.
it was a lot better when they finally turned off scripts..i can't remember if it was waterhead or which one but it was like a battle zone a lot of the time with people coming into SL thinking everyone and everything was a target for some game they were playing..

look free weapons..lets go kill everyone..

most didn't realize they were griefing until they were told how SL works..
most would stop after a good talking to...the police that would start up and start barking at everyone like they were joining the marines ..we would have little talks with them as well..
go find a battle sim...these people are fresh to SL..they don't need to be pushed around by some fake cop..

i remember one pulling out some shotgun on me telling me he was going to blast me.. i pulled out my sebouros and played the commercial sound wave that came with them..
he actually ended up complimenting me on my guns and how cool they looked and where he could get a set..
i told him ..they were custom made just for me and that i could send a bullet 9 sims away with his name on it if i wanted to..lol
i've only shot people that wanted to see what they could do..i never used them on a griefer..they are just pretty guns hehehehe

EDIT:Sorry it was Warmouth not Waterhead info hub

It would be much more fun being a secret investigator in SL than a uniformed police officer!!!

You will find that 100% of police/swat groups in SL are griefers.. kickban them and AR as soon as ya see them.

100% huh, you've checked everyone of them?
So anyone in a group called "Midtown Police" or "Night City Police" for Roleplay purposes is automatically a griefer ?
Don't forget the griefing SL Ambulance, Fire and Forest Ranger groups...........

I'd rather not call ANY of the Police/FBI/CIA/MP/Superhero groups at all .... At best the majority of them, JLU AND GLC included, are fringe Griefers.

A friend and I talked about doing this for awhile, but like most of my ideas it never got off the drawing table. I think it would have been a blast. Want to find out what your lover is up to when you're not around??? Call Schlegal Investigations. I think we would have made a killing...

Or, make an alt and find out for yourself?

What is a "fringe griefer"? It seems that one either works within the ToS and Community Standards or one does not. My experiences with the JLU and GLC have been uniformly positive.

More believable at least,, but it depends a lot on the figures you have to support those statistics, fee free to provide them to us :P

The reports I have gotten cast both of them in a negative light .... a few users have been in the wrong place at the wrong time and gotten harassed or worse by both groups ...

Not to mention that the JLU has, runs and ADMITS to running, a system which gathers information on anyone they happen to meet .... more information than just your AV Key mind you.

They're NOT a police group, NOT any sort of 'news' group .... they have NO right to be gathering information of any kind on anyone at all.

I tell them nicely that they probably forgot to take off their roleplay tags and outfits, and that this might confuse the newbies and make them think they hold some authority. If they then claim to actually hold some authority beyond a role play I AR them *G*

So what's a "fringe griefer"? I don't get it. And, from what I can see, they gather information on people's avatars, not people. Big difference, and a lot of people apparently don't understand that difference.

I will say, though, that getting the attention of the Lindens is HARD. I've used two groups as intermediaries when I've needed them in the past, because Lindens won't talk to me directly for some reason, but they'll apparently talk to the Justice League Unlimited, and one group called simply **Police Department** (yeah, I know what you're thinking, but they're not griefers - but they may be the only "police" group on the grid that isn't.)

it's not a Linden welcome area, but one of the gateways mentioned on http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Community_Gateway. New residents can chose their first time for such a gateway.

It was followed up by SL Mentors and we have now our own meetings and exams to be a greeter. Some of our greeters are SL mentors as well now.

Auti, you're not being clear. There ARE no more "SL Mentors", that group was disbanded by LL.

If you or your group OWN the community gateway in question, you have the right to run it as you choose. Ban the "police" and be done with it.

If you are mentoring and helping at someone else's gateway, get THEM to ban the "police".

Is there no rule in place about spoofing being a member of Linden Lab staff?

Sort of like impersonating a police officer in real life.
