From: AWM Mars Having waited some 10 hours Maybe I come from Venus but I don't see how the 10 hours would make any difference. If I don't know where my friggin'helicopter has been lost (and that happens) you can wait 10 hours or 10 thousand years. If nobody tells me where the helicopter is, I'll never, ever come to take it back. I can understand the situation where one IMs the owner and nothing happens, but not IMing him/her in the first place and then saying "Ok, X hours have passed, so I can AR him/her" still seems overkill to me.

Hey Samantha -- From: Samantha Goldflake Anyway, this is a moot point since the issue is over by now, but I stand by my position. The AR was unnecessary. You have the right to not agree with me.
As I mentioned in my initial reply to you, I could've first IM'd the owner. Your position was clear in your first post. You felt it was an unnecessary AR. I thought differently. Life's funny that way. Anyhow the original point of the thread was a positive nod to Linden Lab. That somehow got lost in translation. =) - Infrared

I don't know if this is the case with all his vehicles, but Cubey Terra's balloons actually IM their owner of their location periodically. If all vehicle makers did this, it would go a long way toward mitigating the problem. From: Samantha Goldflake If nobody tells me where the helicopter is, I'll never, ever come to take it back. This thread is like a badly fitting jigsaw LOL
Zaphod, your three points are all correct .. but what is there for the land owner to choose which of these three is the correct one?
Zaphod & Samantha, If they cannot find the owner then there is no question of IM-ing anyone. I think AR is the only way to go?
Edit: Um Samantha and Infrared .... I got lost too .. sorry

From now on litterers...be it with wooden cubes or helicopters shall have their accounts terminated and their credit cards charged $100USD. The account termination ceremony shall take place in Linden village. The criminal's avatar head will be put in a prim guillotine...as the head goes rolling...a Linden will be deleting the account. Everyone cheers and throws abuse report papers in the air.

Hey... I like this thread! I should've tried IMing the owner first...which I didn't. That's what I've learned...did anyone else learn anything? =) From: bilbo99 Emu This thread is like a badly fitting jigsaw LOL

Yep, that's true and I hope you'll do that, next time! From: Infrared Wind Your position was clear in your first post. You felt was an unnecessary AR. I thought differently.
True again, but it's a known fact that posting on forums you'll often end up debating with someone that wants you to change your mind From: Infrared Wind Anyhow the original point of the thread was a positive nod to Linden Lab. That somehow got lost in translation. =)
That wasn't lost, but I was trying to make a different point, here. I believe that people should not be lured into thinking that the AR is the best/only thing to get things done, no matter if they're real abuses or not. Not to mention that the Lindens should work on things only they can do, not act as proxies between you and another resident. And another thing. You said the helicopter was removed by the owner, not by a Linden. We don't know what the Linden said or did, anyway I hope the owner wasn't told "Go get remove that crap on ... 'cause we got an AR against you". Should that happen to me, I would be royally pissed off.

If all vehicle makers did this, it would go a long way toward mitigating the problem. Well, I would love to have such a feature on my vehicles. I would like to add that anytime I lose a vehicle I check for its return on my "Lost and found" folder. When that does not happen, I really try to locate it. If I can't, after a reasonable amount of time I call it quit and I wait for someone (not a Linden, please!) to tell me where my stuff is. Oh well...

Honestly, I think I would default to my option 3, as it seems much more logical and reasonable that it was left there accidentally. This leaves the question "Ok, it was an accident. Now what?" Land owner not online to return the noisemaker. Owner not online to come retreive it. 10 hours later, noise still there. Not an abuse, but on the other hand, resident not enjoying their second life, because of the whirl of a Huey. Kinda presents a problem, doesn't it. *sips more coffee ponders scripting some sort of automated lost vehicle retreival system* From: bilbo99 Emu This thread is like a badly fitting jigsaw LOL Zaphod, your three points are all correct .. but what is there for the land owner to choose which of these three is the correct one? Well, I know there is no more Help Request, but how do we get a hold of a liaison now? An island right? Maybe we could have a Linden come remove the object if we can't contact the owner. I've heard some wild Wive's tales about Abuse Reports being responded to in seconds lately. Is this the new norm?

From: Samantha Goldflake Well, I would love to have such a feature on my vehicles. I would like to add that anytime I lose a vehicle I check for its return on my "Lost and found" folder. When that does not happen, I really try to locate it. If I can't, after a reasonable amount of time I call it quit and I wait for someone (not a Linden, please!) to tell me where my stuff is. Oh well... If the vehicle is modifiable there used to be a little script out there for free that would IM its owner every now and then with its location. If that can't be found it shouldn't be too difficult for a half decent scripter to write one. edit I just tried to find that script from a few years ago with no luck. So instead I wrote a new one and sent it to you Samantha. Hope it helps

Thanks Darkness, sadly all of the vehicles I use are no mod, all but one that I hardly use since it's quite hard to master Anyway I'll try searching for that script. I don't plan to become an half decent scripter anytime soon

From: Samantha Goldflake The question is: "Is one supposed to file an abuse report against someone, for such a thing?" I would have IMed the helicopter owner. Filing an abuse report because of an abandoned helicopter seems overkill to me. I agree. Could this be why the AR system seems to be falling apart? If people are filing AR's for things like this on a daily basis, I can see why LL is slow to respond or would even want to continue responding to AR's. Imagine getting this in your inbox in mass numbers: This guy left a copter on my landThis lady placed a prim box in my living roomThis guy came through with a horse and it left a pooper on my lawn There's a simple solution for those little "fender benders", enable auto return. Of the 29,000 people that are logged in right now. Imagine 500 of them send in an AR like that and maybe 1 sends in complaints that a griefer has released one of the superprim rezzing object on their sim...that sim owner just might get overlooked when the person reading these AR's gets a happy trigger finger and starts deleting AR's. Please use AR wisely. Start dealing with your own minor issues and use the tools that are in place to help you. Save the AR's for serious incidents, then maybe LL will be able to work a bit faster on them.

Save the AR's for serious incidents, then maybe LL will be able to work a bit faster on them. ok this put me in mind of a rather funny experience I had back in my early months in SL. It would have been version 1.4 when we very first got animations and scripted naughty bits. My honey and I were having a bit of fun and hopped into the sexy hot tub wearing our bits. When I got out I realised my bits had poof vanished. My honey and I spent the next 4 hours litterally taking the whole place apart and hunting every meter of the sim that we could access for my lost bits. No success. With a rather red face I IM'ed the maker of the bits as I couldn't remember where I had bought them and he was kind enough to replace them. About 3 months later I logged in to a message _____ has returned your (naught bits) from parcel x. The person was female. To this day I have this horrible vision of this poor woman returning to her home in SL after a long hiatus only to find my male parts lying on her living room floor. hmmm maybe I need to put an owner IM if lost script into naughty bits.
