Ceera thanks for reminding me about BanLink ... duhhhhhhhhhhhhh ... must put Chocolat on there.

Well I like having security at home. For which at the moment I am trying out Starry Nights - this is working well so far, is GREAT in a skybox and creates loads of pretty stars in the skies ...

Security orbs, doors, tinted windows, its all pointless. If I want to roam my camera around your house and watch you licking the gunk out from between your toes (you all do it privately, admit it)! then short of you owning the whole sim and banning me there is nothing to stop me.

Agreed here, Porky.

What happens on my land when I am not online doesn't bother me really. Hope people enjoy the area I created.

When someone really bothers me when I am online and on my land.... freeze, eject & ban. That is all there is to do. And even that won't stop someone from snooping around with the camera.

To that, as said so many times before... I am in SL to meet people, not to build a none-accessible fortress.
And among the (new) none-payment info people, I have meet the nicest people. Would have been a real pity if I would have missed those by some security orb or something.

My RL partner and a good RL friend have the same rights to ban people. That is all what is needed.

Morwen.

eheh There is nearly no privacy on SL as Porky said. You can even use your camera from an adjacent sim and be careful what you say in open-chat too.

Just to point out.... BanLink isn't meant for home security, especially if what you're looking for is privacy. (Oversimplification: Privacy = Whitelist, AntiGrief = Blacklist).

Its intended to be for gathering areas, places that experience a heavy grief-load, or full private island sims. The reason for this has to do with our 'linear' trust setup, which becomes unwieldy if you have a lot of little locations to choose from. As it is we've got some interface redesign work ahead of us because the potential trust list is already bordering on unwieldy.

If you're looking for a security system for residential home-security, and the existing land tools aren't enough for you - Psyke's systems are the best out there :)

Edited to add: I think its fantastic that I'm seeing people call out venues that are using BanLink responsibly, and reccomending them to be trusted. Likewise, places that are irresponsible about it should also be called out. Ultimately - there's nothing more powerful than peer pressure (both positive & negative) to encourage people to be responsible about their ban choices, and follow up with disputes. :)
