Ive noticed recently mainly due to me comming to the forums more that resident answers is more a resident arguments.

If somebody says I like apples there 3 responses about how they should be excluded from everything for likeing apples then the who thing starts into a MASSIVE flame.

I assume seeing this is a mature forum that people can act mature about mature subjects.

One I liked recently was a comment " Anybody whos intollerent better not show up round here"

If everybody is intitled to there opinions then why do people SHOUT .... "your wrong you should keep your mouth shut ..free speech IS a good thing" *lol*.

The belief that SL should allow all and sundrey regardless of there orientation of beliefs isnt under questions nor is Age verification/ furries etc ...

But should we FIRST start with tollerence in our FIRST LIFE interactions with each other in this forum?

I really dont know..... but I do get down hearted when everyone gets picked to death for having an opinion.

I do see your point. But people who post to these forums are a very rambunctious (a word you don't see everyday) group.

Personally, I'm only down-hearted when the opinions picked apart are mine.

I am probably in the minority, but I enjoy the passion, insight, humor and even the hysterical ridiculousness that shows up here. Yes sometimes threads veer off course. So what? Arguments gets tired. a little mud gets slung. they are just words. It gets to you, just step away for a bit, don't respond to posts that annoy you, stop reading threads that don't interest you. Someone's signature says "It's only a Forum, No one dies". good thought.

Ok, ok a good point Marty. I think there's a number of factors, some more applicable to certain (or uncertain) people than others.
The Internet: a hugely diverse collection of people from different countries, age groups, backgrounds, persuasion (sexual and/or religious), time zones .. all thrown into one melting pot. Jeez, we've had wars starting from less!!

So, you have a bible-belt mid US somebody just on their first coffee in conversation with a hot, tired brit at midday and an asian who's just wrapped up for the day and rocketting home to get in-world. Yikes! no wonder we're a cranky lot!

It's good. I love it!!!!

The problem is your analogy.

Around here, it's rarely "I like apples".

More often, it's:

"APPLES SHOULD BE BANNED BECAUSE EATING APPLES IS BAD AND OMGZ IF YOU LIKE APPLES YOU IZ A APELPHILE AND YOU SHOULD BE BAND!

THINK OF THE CHILRENS!"

or

"I don't understand how you can't like apples. I like apples, so everyone should and if you don't you're stupid and probably an applephile and should be locked up."

Hey, for those of us who don’t have access to our SL during the day the Forum is not just an extension of SL minus the avatar…but a game unto itself. I too have been struck by the raw emotion that pours onto these pages. “How can people be so venomous even malevolent?” I would think. And the humor…I truly Laugh Out Loud sometimes. And really…it beats the daily snooze paper any day.
obtw…I like cake…chocolate cake…and who cares about apples when I cant get cake.

This is true

The threads that become heated exchanges are always about subjects where there are strong opinions on,

And either the Original Poster or one of the later Posters says some far out to one side or the other, leading to the debate.

There are PLENTY of threads that do not get that treatment. Its just they arent very visible, becuase they are posted, they get their 10-20 responses and they fade away quickly.

I like the "Well I don't like apples personally And I don't know why people would like apples, but if they eat apples in private I guess it really isn't any of my business".

I think I've done good in the forums. Only about 1 out of 50 times that I've wanted to jump up and down on somebody and scream "whiny little bitch" has resulted in my saying something.

/me likes pie. Apple pie.

Forgive me for saying this but maybe some of the people who write on the forums should actually go online in Second Life world sometimes????

Seems to me Resident Answers has turned into a forum for people crying that they can't pretend to be little boy and little girl avatars.

My sentiment entirely. It lightens my day to read some of the comical comments made in what could be a very heated discussion.

Rambunctious, am I? What a vituperative innuendo. I'm rather diffident, notwithstanding my infrequent conniptions.

I think in generall every one is "good people" are there are PASSIONS .... that of course if passions isnt AR able these days.

Ive been in forums for years ... and chat rooms as long....

Of course there are always people who come JUST to stir .... the griefers of the forums, but for me I cant access SL from work so its nice to read.... and the fact that people DO feel so strongly about certain issues is a credit to them especially when we have a complete running commentry .. i.e the Darwin thread and the Gay Mal (what does homo really mean) thread...

Sometimes these are funny..... sometimes they arnt. I can imagine some new person comes into the forum looking for "resident answers" and finding an argument about
"Gay Underage Furry Slaves" and how they need to be verified *lol*

me personally though .... i think i MIGHT be guilty of Aplephelia

:P *lol*

See? This is the sort of post that causes the flame wars.

Well done, Robustus. You've crafted it perfectly!
It's got juuuust enough ignorance of the topic at hand to piss someone off and just enough "Nose in the air" arrogance to piss the rest off.

Sex is fine. Apples are great. I don't know how this was missed, but the REAL problem Second Life faces today, the one that could bring the grid tumbling down with a force of magnitude previously unheard of - the combination of apples and sex. We need a Linden clarification of this threat. I will be reporting every instance of it that I witness, whether it's acted out or simply verbalized.

Does anybody see some "Fawlty" logic in that statement? :p

Take a volatile issue. Add anonymity. Mix in some frustration with how LL handles every communication. Take away the General Discussion Forum. Presto! You have the RA forum as it exists today.

I like peaches. Especially Brenda's. ;)
