Let me just start by saying I am 21 years old, and I have been in SecondLife for 3 years.
I am pissed off about the "age verification system" coming back. And I'll tell you why.
About a year ago I lost my main SL account. I lost my vehicle collection, my whole inventory. And even my real estate business.
I am pissed off because all of this happened because I bought a few lindens with my credit card. As simple as that. My bank didn't like it, and the bastards made LL close my account permanently.
That was 1 year ago. I have been doing quite well saving up and buying all my lost items again. And I've just started up my business again. But I am no way in hell putting my payment details in. Not after what happened last time. And I'm way too old for the teen grid.
So what do I do? Put my details in again and lose another account? Or don't, and be sent to the teen grid?
Either way I am screwed. I'm leaving for good if I am sent to that place.

Age verification is totally voluntary. However if you choose not to volunteer, you will be barred from any parcel that has "mature content" checked.
It's up to you whether you do it or not. You obviously shouldn't do it, if you feel this way. A _____________________

The bank thought that the money taken out of my card for the lindens was frawd. Even though I told them countless times it wasnt.

I'd be more ticked off at my bank than at SL. Perhaps a gift card or pre-paid debit card would be better for you.
I've waffled a bit on the whole age verification thing...but I think, in the end, it'll be more of a benefit than a drawback. I've NEVER liked unverified accounts. I've always felt they were nothing more than a cover for griefers, campers, and the like. I'm sorry to hear that you lost so much of your original collection, and I truly sympathize...but I'd be on the phone with my credit card company, stripping paint off the walls about what they cost you...and demanding some form of re-imbursement. |

Man, if my bank was that much of a jerk as to get my account closed, I've have told the bank to f' the heck off and taken my money and business elsewhere.
Or did you mean, the bank refused to pay LL via the CC and you wound up with the account 'frozen' because of that? Calling the bank usually straightens that up. *chews on lip* I'm not going to worry about the verification system at this time. See, it must come to pass first and it seems they are taking the more 'wait and see' approach. So I will too. Besides, if it's asking for name/address/phone that kind of info, I have no problem giving it out. I seem to have a vague memory of doing that for SL before, but maybe not. *shrugs* Two years is a long time for a shot glass memory. _____________________

Yes. But people who don't put their credit details in are considered "minors". No they're not, the age verification is to stop people accessing adult material, it's completely voluntary. Don't panic. Age verification is also something LL haven't thought through properly, which is why they've gone awfully quiet on the subject. I still think they'll try and merge the grids one day to force it upon us. |

Adult parcels....which is where it gets confusing, we're still all a bit confused as to whether adult will be a new rating or whether mature and adult are the same thing but yup, you won't be being sent to the teen grid, in fact if you're 21 there's no way in hell you'll be going to the teen grid as you're too old. |

Mandatory verification was only dropped for the main grid, teens always did have to verify.All that aside, age verification will happen by identification documents/numbers, not credit cards. That's never been mentioned in the blogs. |

Considering verification has not yet been initiated a good month after it was supposed to be, I wouldn't lose sleep over it. And if your bank is deciding what charges to allow even with your OK, then I would find another bank. besides, THEY would not close your account. They would deny paying the charge, and the Linden would close the account, hopefully not before telling you so you could attempt to make payment in another form.

I was never sent to any "teen grid"... I have access to everything in the world, except areas where the owners themselves have it blocked off. If they did what you thought they were doing... then new players (such as myself) starting out with Basic Accuonts and not providing any CC info or any other payment info, would not be allowed to do just about anything in the world, and they would all be automatically sent to some sort of teen grid... That would be bad business practice on LL's part. So obviously, they're not doing that. |

Don't worry though. As far as we know, cc information is not going to be used to verify age, age verification is going to be voluntary, and non-verifieds will be able to visit both PG and Mature areas, with the exception of Mature areas that are also flagged as 'Adult' (probably things like extreme violence and explicit porn will require land owners to use that flag). Also this should have been in effect already, but instead LL has been very quiet about it. Chances are they won't even go through with it, or at least not the way they planned. It's way to early to get all worked up about it. _____________________

Any bank that tried to tell me what to do with my money would swiftly find that my money is no longer a concern of theirs, but instead of their rival down the street. Speaking of stupid banks, there was one once that tried to argue with me over how my name was spelled. they didn't last long either. I thought it wise to take my money out before they started refusing transactions because I was not spelling my name "correctly". _____________________

I know alot will enable LL with a dozen or so excuse and insults but it still comes down to manditory in a very cowardly way. btw if your 21 your not a minor so ya should be cool |
