Its all quite a shame because I really want SL to be something great but they sure are making it hard on us aren't they? On the one hand i see so much potential and I have so many great ideas to contribute. On the other hand they treat their customers like a nuisance and lie to us and threaten to confiscate our assets without recourse or appeal if we are deemed to have violated poorly-defined rules. Every time i think of something new and creative to do, I remind myself of that. Other people will come around and do the creative stuff I'm thinking of... let them take the risks, i guess.

Given that Wilhelm didn't check permissions before rezzing his First Life here, I now own it and have changed the permissions to Transfer/Resell, no mod or copy allowed.
You'll find it in a vendor at my store, soon to be available on SLEXchange. After much consideration, price is set at $10 (the default), making it affordable for all. It is delivered packaged in a cute little pink-ish environment friendly carrybag, with optional ghost prims. Due to current server issues, this product is not transferrable to any other world, so if you are planning to migrate to There, Entropia, WoW etcetera you'll have to leave the product at the Linden Lab front door. No refund is payable for such action. Whilst all care is taken, no responsibility for dissatisfaction in the product is accepted and no refund is payable. Be a trendsetter, be the first on your sim to get your "Wilhelm Do It Yourself 1st Life" - hurry! |

Not very techie as you may have guessed. But i can see the potential. You could have your own little world for your group. pivicy and no griefers. Free to create what you want (hold on is that not a SL private sim). Well, some people want a seamless world to immerse themselves in (i.e. the ad farm gripe). Why not make a "playing house" world with stores, vehicles, houses and consumerism? The potential for an economy is definitely there. Then the shoot'em up guys could have their own destroyed cityscape to run through and shoot each other, the space crowd could have their thing, the giant robot crowd could have theirs and the vampires can suck on each other till the furries come home! ![]() Anyone who can create good content could join the developer's team or at least send the files for the items to them since those tools are available to all! That way you have unique content with less server load and no sudden giant robots or ninjas showing up at your townhouse in downtown Malibu...unless that was your thing! I don't have the resources, time or money to do such a thing otherwise I would. I do know that a lot of the people complaining about losing money and business have the free time and money to roll with this! _____________________

I know the competition that will come along someday is learning from LL's mistakes. But do they have to make so many? |

Wilhelm! Hello! Errr... umm... you're here..... but you said you were going out for a jog!
Well gosh. I don't quite know how it happened, perhaps it was an aberration, rather like the 'big prims' debacle of years ago, a glitch yanno? Bah at LL and their server issues, asset problems and the like, unable to TP in to rezz anything substantial, or ummz.... Well, Wilhelm, ummz ... clears throat and smiles sweetly ... it appears your First Life has been released to the wilds and is freely available in many Freebie stores across the grid! Perhaps you could file the DMCA against LL?! Lack of due care and all that?! And Domaiv? You sure you want your 1st life home surrounded by oddly dressed bots, with names like B43593245 ZnA?? Don't think the neighbours might AR you?! |

I do know that a lot of the people complaining about losing money and business have the free time and money to roll with this! It seems like they took ideas of SL, WoW, TSO etc. And started to look at them from different angles, and instead of developing the world and rules themselves are giving indiependant programmers a platform to work. One in which they would not have had the opportunity or money to otherwise do |

im not really complaining, im asking a straight up question. im surprised that SL has a monopoly on virtual economies and i hope someone does something about it soon. its funny to me how people incessantly complain about the stability here, but when you suggest leaving everybody changes their tune. Because as Squeeze said, what SL is trying to do is not simple. Much of the technology is new, and the complexity is vast. It's a wonder it works as well as it does. SL does not have a monopoly, at least not a legally enforced one like your cable or electric company. As soon as another company can develop the technology to rival SL, they will. The fact that no one has yet should tell you something about how difficult it is. But even when someone does -- and eventually someone will -- you may be disappointed. Any rival to SL will also have to abide by laws, make a profit, etc., and there may well be policies and practices you don't like. The rival might offer better customer service, which is the one place Linden Lab is really vulnerable to competition, I think. Other than that, I do not think you are going to find the virtual paradise you seem to want. |

I've been curious about the Endless Forest. ( http://tale-of-tales.com/TheEndlessForest/ ) But then, it doesn't afford all the options SL does. You (and other players) get to run around an idyllic forest as a fantasy-like stag or fawn. Sounds like something I'd love, but it may not be the cup of tea for folks who'd rather play house/run a business/have kinky sex with demonic nekos.
