since LL is obviously ignoring the will of its users (i feel nothing but empathy for those who have premium accounts) and SL has become basically unplayable since voice was launched, it seems to me that the real question is "where else can we go?"

we need to organize and bring all our traffic to a stable virtual world, if there is one. so what are our options?

now do you want to be able to make real life money in this other virtual world? how much per month do you wish to spend to be allowed in this world? if your answers are yes and none then I think SL is your only option!

www.multiverse.net could be made into something good with a bit of imagination and ingenuity! It's still in the beginning stages, though, so plan on some growing pains just like SL has!

Otherwise there's Entropia...but alas, no content creation or uploading your own stuff. That explains why there aren't so many lag problems.

Does anyone that complains about SL like this have any concept of what is involved in being able to have millions upon millions of unique objects with unique scripts (many done badly by their authors) as well as individually uploaded textures and sounds? Why is it so hard for people to understand that what they're asking for may not quite be possible yet?

I went to Cleveland once. The flight I was booked on from Vegas back to the UK was full. Had to get to Chicago for another flight and the only way i could get there on time was via Cleveland.

Was v dissapointed. I couldn't get a souvenir Indians baseball at the airport.

Unfortunately, all the "stable virtual worlds" are really dull and all the people that used to inhabit them are here.

Agreed but maybe in that case the Providers need to reign themselves in a bit and move forward at a slower pace. Push the envelope, don't tear it open.

Yes. I found There's intro video to be incredibly insipid and Entropia seems too restrictive for me. It's SL or bust for me.

So with multiverse you ca have a user account with that you can vist worlds or play games, some of which there is a fee to be paid to the creator.

You can also develop your own world or game. This uses your own p.c. as a server and you can choose to have a subscription fee.

Is this correct?

If so then how unstable would that be, using your little desktop as a server.

im not really complaining, im asking a straight up question. im surprised that SL has a monopoly on virtual economies and i hope someone does something about it soon.

its funny to me how people incessantly complain about the stability here, but when you suggest leaving everybody changes their tune.

I used to think moaning about everything was just a British passtime. Oh how we love to put the world to rights over a sweet sherry or two. we never really intend to do anything about the things we moan about, we just like to get it off our chests (some have bigger chests than others).

On seeing that other nationalities like to do the same, maybe we could introduce it as an olympic sport.

You would need a real server in order to do anything like that. They talk about having server hosting in the future.

It's a lot harder a task to undertake but it could potentially have a lot of benefits!

Not very techie as you may have guessed.

But i can see the potential. You could have your own little world for your group. pivicy and no griefers. Free to create what you want (hold on is that not a SL private sim).

Yes. Voice has made SL basically unplayable for many, including me.

Here's what to do - download the non-voice version from here:

http://s3.amazonaws.com/download-secondlife-com/Second%20Life%201-18-0-6%20Setup.exe

There is still a performance deficit (don't ask me why), but not nearly as much as with voice (enabled or disabled).

Going back to that version saved me from having to quit entirely.

and for me, SL is running like a champ since i upgraded to the new version. *shrugs*.... errrr.... except for some current inventory issues that just started today, and might pass soon enough.

well i just finished grouting my newly finished ceramic floor in the washroom and experienced zero lag. Now i'm going outside to water the garden and them i'm going to go for a short jog maybe even buy a coke on the way home since I have an excuse to now that I burned calories during my jogging.

stay tunned for chapter 2 of Wilhlem's First life ^^
