Could this world exist in an alternate universe?

There is a theory in (quantum physics?) that speculates that there are alternate universes parallel to our world. Would that include virtual worlds as well, or just the real world? And if it were true, can you imagine everything that you do in Second Life might be someone's life every second of every day?

Yeah in that alternate universe they would play in 2nd life where they would do boring stuff and go to work every day.

SL IS an alternate universe.

Remember the episode of Star Trek in which Picard lives an entire alternate life inside a black box. Everyone outside the black box experiences a few seconds time lapse between when Picard loses and regains consciousness in RL, but Picard remembers a lifetime of experience.

Who's to say our RL isn't compressed into a (far more sophisticated) little black box? We'll either wake up and say "Cool, can I try another?", or maybe we are simply sentient puppets within a system where we only think we have free will.

Well if you subscribe to the infinite number of parallel universes theory then yes there is a place where all the adfarms and storms of marios are actual daily civic concerns.

Actually, if you have enough USD tied up in SL, as far as bein' an entreprenuer it IS real.

They print "worthless" paper money "out of thin air", on presses in the Mints daily...just like gold/money came out of Ultima Online via EBay, & made a few people thousands and thousands of USD. In SL we are actually ENCOURAGED to become a RL entreprenuer and stimulate+grow the SL economy, generate more interest, and increase the legitamacy of online platforms like this one as they pertain to RL. Anyway, I ain't exactly "Einstien", but even with the aliens, talking animals, bouncing marios, etc Second Life is a real place...just not in the sense we are used to judging as "space".

The server space and binary "air & water" etc all add up to a place that we interact with real people, and earn RL currency through. I bet that in about 10 years I bet a conversation like this will sound like: "Where do ya'll put the horses in, ta drive them autymobiles?"

Good question. SL - exactly as we experience it - DOES exist therefore it obviously can. But the OP raises could SL exist without being controlled by us RL human beings. I think the answer to that must be no, because then it wouldn't be SL. For example, to evolve the beings would have to have motivation of their own (not driven by ours) therefore something like pain, hunger, pleasure etc. But if the things we have our avatars do really hurt, then they wouldn't do them so much. What about 'death' - if it became a sort of real death it would affect behaviour. If it was like SL death which requires an external controller to re-live, then it is just SL, not an indpendent world like SL.

So I think the answer is - yes, a world exactly like SL can exist, and does. But a world with all the features of SL except external human controllers wouldn't behave like SL.

OK infinite worlds = infinite possibilities, which provides a sort of logical basis for saying yes everything must exist, but where do you go from there? To make the question useful (which I think it is) you need to think about the driving forces and natural laws that would control it.

If my RL was actually someone's SL, they must have very little imagination. They've probably given up already lol and created an alt. hehe

Some are parallel, some askew, some tangent, some many times larger than ours, some are only specs. They all exists and move around in their own dimension -- we can precieve 3, yet there are 10 within our universe and the 11th is outside where all the universes are found.

Just like objets in our space, some times universes collide in their space. If you think an astroid impact is a big explosion, just try to imagiane the "BIG BANG" that happens when universes collide.

Or maybe our entire universe is just an atom on the fingernail of some giant being ....

I'm going to have to stop falling off stuff and splatting on the ground and causing stuff to slide through body (and here I'm refering to stuff like tripping and impaling myself on fence posts), and banging my head when I stand up, and turning off "fly" when I'm a 1000 feet up just because that is quicker to get down that way and . . ..
