Maybe read first what land is about?
What "First Land" is and the rules/conditions are about "First Land"?
And what the consequences are of buying normal land?
And now you blame others for not inform yourself properly?
Hmmmm...

If you are a resident you get 512 sqm allowance at no charge, if you purchase land totalling anything over 512 sqm then you will need to increase your tier. Not sure how you tiered up without realising, as when you purchase land nowadays you get a popup box telling you if you need to increase your tier to own land.
Wonderful grasp of the english language by the way

Well there is a lot things in SL you can do free, but if you want to buy something, as buying implies, you have to pay for it.
But i have to agree a bit, Land is pretty expensive, not only buying it, but the montly tier is keeping me away from buying a bigger plot of land, and if i would do, i would have to earn money with it, so it limits the people that do non profit stuff on their land.

Carsy where do you think you are? at a charity event?
leme recap you the facts
Premium: -right to own land -stipend -512 square meter allowance -1 time right to buy first land
-can be paid monthly/quarterly or yearly (if i recap) -everything over is on extra fee
and obviously you didn't look at the buy land window WICH WAS PRECISELY TELLING YOU WHAT WAS GOING TO HAPPEND.
Humanity is amazing, when you think you found the lowest common denominator, someone comes and lower it even more.

okay well although this thread is gonna be locked because of the way its written you are allowed on the premium membership to have 512 square meters of land before paying tier
from what i see you bought about 4096 which is a lot more then 512 (this was written about the perks of the premium) land in second life is expensive and yes its probably the most expensive "game" your going to encounter however land is about the only cost you truly have to worry about. If your really "into" second life and not just playing in clubs only and learn about all aspects of it you will find you can actualy make everything given time and some learning (well lots of learning if you have no prior experience at all)
That said 4096 of land is actually pretty much enough for a long time you can do most of what you want on 4096 without to much worry which is 25 usd per month which is remarkably similar to the monthly price of a game (they ask about 20 use permonth the big games)
Also I am not sure how anyone else operated but I managed to find out about first land and i sat and waited to get first land and i learned about prims and scripts and and and and. Maybe its an age thing but i stayed on the starter island for quite some time and then I had no trouble finding a newbie place because a notecard told me to look for them so i did. I went there and they offered classes which I took.
So by the time I upgraded I knew the basics of survival in second life from what I can see no one is bothering to learn about the game now they aer jumping in with both feet and then complaining about the cost because they didnt read any info.
I dont get it I had the same resources the people have access to a year later yet they never find it ? why?
dont the read the notecards on the starter island its all there in black and white there was a pretty clear path for me to follow
Stop read learn before you leap into it without looking
is that so hard really?

Does Linden Lab offer versions of the membership and land pricing & use fees pages in alternate languages?

Lots of info here even out of world, http://secondlife.com/knowledgebase/The land issue is a quagmire for the newcomer though, even ignoring the landbaron/trustworthyness issue.

Carsy, It's obvious that this is your second language and I wasnt mocking your ability to write english. However terms like "is this fees for SL or what .....i kick you in the nuts.... !!!!!" just stikes me as an interesting use of terminology in any language and made me smile

I can understand the frustration, but watch your language please.
As others already explained, patience is all there is to it when you want to have land. I tried to find out as much as I can about buying land and decided to lease for a while. My sl bf owns a sim and an island so that gave me the opportunity, if I like it I'll buy some myself. Obviously you didn't read enough about it, and now try to blame LL. Again, your frustration is understandable but you and you alone are responsible.

Well said, Mandy.
Before I went to premium, I did study the site and forums closely on the subject.
When I bought for the first time land I was even more careful, but there no suprises for me.
I think, just as in RL, it very important to inform yourself well... specially when there is money involved.

I think what people are trying to say is that normally when you buy land, it's very very explicit in telling you that your tier will increase. Go find a piece of land for sale, right click on it and choose "buy" to see what comes up. You will see a window where it will explicitly tells you exactly what the implications are for your tier.
If this did not display for you, then maybe there was a malfunction. But for anyone like me who has bought and sold dozens of land parcels and have always seen this window, your story doesn't quite ring true. I, like some of the others, are skeptical that it didn't display. Perhaps you were misunderstanding the part where it says: "There is no Covenant provided for this Estate." That simply means that there are no special restrictions on what you can build and no contract with anyone but LL, to whom you must pay tier. If you bought land on a private island, there would be a covenent.
Also, you will usually get more helpful responses if you don't throw a temper tantrum as your first post on the forums.

The land and the prims allocated to it are still stored on a LL server that requires upkeep, maintenance etc so there is still a cost. You bought the land from another player, yet LL will need to keep the land on a server which costs money. Imagine you buy a car, you pay the vendor for the car, then drive it home and park it in the street. You’re paying taxes to keep that street maintained, to employ police to stop people stealing it and so on. LL are essentially tax collectors in this instance.
With regards to rentals, you pay the land owner rent, the land owner then pays LL tier. Basically LL 'hosts' every parcel of land and there is a fee required to maintain the servers, pay employees etc.

25 $ a month is exactly the tier u pay for hold till 4096 m2 of land, as a premium member u have the first 512 tier free. Every time u buy land this affect the tier u pay to linden labs. If i remember good tier not change only if u buy land from a private "realtor" like ansche chung simply cause u pay directly to them via pay pall or similar. I'm sorry for your frustration, but how to buy land is very clear on the website imho and even if u aren't english , i am not english too, there are many ways to have informations - mentors - help request - Help Places - groups from your country - Help Pages that u can reach directly from sl simply hitting f1. Like in Rl when u decide to spend money u have to be sure about what u are doin, u cant blame sl for that, at least not for this issue . Own land is not mandatory is a decision and also in my opinion sl is not about "own things". Also language not help if u are lookin for solidarity. And if u think that there was a malfunction, fill a bug report, talk with a linden or send a mail to support http://secure-web8.secondlife.com/contact.php?q=billing Have a nice day ciao!
