Okay, perhaps I read more into Michael's comment than I should have. But then again, it's quite nice to see you all jump to his defence. Even I feel sorry for him sometimes.

I think........ but might be totally wrong ......... it was the reference to lightening his pockets off pennies (can't check the exact quote due to 503 reasons).
I think .... but may be completely wrong ......... that this was potentially considered somewhat insensitive in view of the many pennies being extracted from various pockets due to the monkeys decision to charge Europeans extra for some reason or other i'm not sure about.

Now, play nice people

Sadly, you're wrong, Sally. I was just picking on poor defenceless Michae.l

I was thinking the same thing, Brenda. I was laughing to myself because it all made perfect sense in the broader context of the forums, but figured a lot of people would think it came from no where.

I may be confused, but doesn't 'transaction history' track $0 dollar amounts too?

I know it does.... but what I'm wondering is this.. If anyone remembers I had that stupid little incident with my notecard giver script. What happened was I didn't name the notecard something different than what I named the box my house was in. So when someone clicked on the sign, they were given a free house instead of the notecard.

None of those transaction appeared in my transactions history. So since I have no idea how scripting for vendors work.. (obviously) Are the demo vendors set up the same way, so that if they were zero L, they wouldn't show in transactions?

I always figured the L$1 for a demo was to keep some n00b griefer AV from standing there buying infinite demos in a lame attempt to lag out the seller.

Object delivery of items does not show up in the transaction history. I wish it did...

Yeah, I think that's it, for vendor systems. It's just not possible to do a "Pay" interface for L$0, so the vendor would have to do something special anyway... so, as suggested, it could just give the demo away on touch, but it would have to do all the recording of those transactions itself, and somehow feed that to whatever analysis tools the vendor manufacturer provides (separate from account transaction history).

LOL that'd have to be one hell of a patient griefer. Jeez, I'd never be able to do that.

Just buy them and rez them on the ground until the prim limit is hit. It's like a poor man's version of those boxes that spam a sim with Spongebob Squarepants or porn intil everything crashes. Just one guy buying free demos and rezzing them as fast as he can.

How could you possibly read anything into Michael's comment? It was pretty simple and straightforward. Nothing improper whatsoever. While I don't know if Michael is correct by calling you an idiot, your comment definitely was idiotic.

This question is for the stores out there that sell demos. First of all, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! I can't imagine buying some items, such as hair, without a demo first.

I'm wondering why so many charge L$1 for the demo though. I should shrug and figure it's only one Linden, but it just seems damned irritating. I wouldn't refuse to buy from a store that does this but I will say that when I find a store that sells their demos for L$0 it gives me a positive feeling about that store. Like the owner there is more interesting in providing good service than scraping every last linden out of their customer.

Is it possible that so many of these L$1 demos are sold that the income it brings in makes it worth it? I have a hard time believing that to be the case.

$1L is nothing, I don`t think people are trying to "scrape every last linden out of their customer"...that`s ridiculous.

When something is sold for $0L the blue cash box never pops up. Some people like to know when sales are coming in, even demo sales.

Not only that, but I wonder how excel handles "0" ? I don`t use it so I`m not sure, but that could have something to do with it as well.

I charge L$1 for some skin demos for tracking purposes. I have an Excel file that I dump my transaction history into, and it gives me a running total for the year of how many demos I'm giving out based on a number search.

*Really needs to start using Excel*

I wouldn't mind finding all the "nothings" from things like ETD (random name, Elika always matches every RFL donation in her store so she's definitely not pennie milking :)) hair demos deposited into my L$ balance :p.

I do think some of it is historical and some of it is to generate an extra profit.

You could simply generate a pivot table with "count" instead of "sum" to get the total, so it doesn't really matter for counting the amount of demos sold.

Still, L$1 is roughly US$0.004 (4/10ths of a cent) or €0.003 (VAT included); is this really more than an idle curiousity?

Mostly curiosity, but a little more. Not so much concerned about paying L$1 as getting a negative image of stores who would charge it because it IS so cheap. I never dreamed they would bring in as much as L$300 - 500 that Arikinui stated. Now it makes sense to me. If it really helps the creators continue to provide some of their excellent items, then I have no problem assisting in that manner. I just never dreamed it would really be enough to do so.

Yeah, I'll probably still get a better feeling towards those stores that offer demos for free, but I wont begrudge those that charge L$1.

Hm, yeah i didn`t really consider the huge 'demo-centered' shops out there. I was speaking from my own experience- I don`t have many demo items, so I feel asking L$1 to sample them is not a huge deal or wallet-breaking at all. In the same way, it is not making me any type of significant profit. (atleast I don`t think it is, I have never counted my demo sales, I will have to go check now)

If people are marking them at $1L for an extra profit that`s a bit sad actually. But to each their own.

So, now that that's all settled, how does your hair look?

On-thread story and panties!!

I bought a new skin/shape package last week. There was no demo, but I spent ages looking at the pictures, etc, before stumping up the cash. Anyway, duly rezz up said skin/shape and wear, and hey, now I'm cute. Both were no mod, but I figured that would be OK as I wouldn't need to change anything.

Anyway, first time I get my kit off, I find the skin comes complete with panties. Purple panties with a little diamante heart on the front, and the word "skin" emblazoned across the backside. They are crotchless, which I suppose might come in handy at some point, but are completely un-removable.

Now, I know they won't show when I am dressed, but I will know they are still there. I could wear a pair of big girls panties over the top, but there's no fun in that. Anyway, a girl needs clean panties on a daily basis. If there had been a demo, which I would have happily paid for, I would have discovered the said permanant purple panties before purchase.

Before you ask - I'm not showing anyone!!!

I've been thinking that skins lack that special sexy tan-line feature, so... perhaps there's a market for modifiable paler-than-tan panty-layer skin-supplements. I'd always thought they should be mostly alpha, but now it seems full opacity would be useful for some applications. They could also come in a variety of "trim packages," etc. And the great thing is that it isn't even supposed to "match." :p

I agree and I try more demos that way.
