Have you tried random jumps around the map to places you've never been? Could be they just know your habits...

if it is someone on your friends list, open up your list and se if you have them checked as being able to find you on the map. if so, uncheck it.

if you don't want them to even know you are online, uncheck that box also.

that ought to do it.

If they gave you an attachment (necklace, boots, backpack, whatever) then they ~could~ have that scripted to give the info. Doubtful. Lot of trouble and effort there and you jsut ened to detach it to kill the sensor.

A "bug" can be planted on you as well, however, those types can not track you through a TP. They are also returned if you are on land with auto-return. (though they can continue to "bug" you if they are in the same sim.)

If it's jsut your psoition that they know, they are probably using sim-scanners to scan the entire sim. Is it always in the same sim? If yes, then they're scanning the sim, not you.

don't get me wrong here.
Im not upset that they did it , far from it.
I was just wondering how.
Cos i cant seem to figure out how to do the map find thing. I dought that a scipted item has been given to me they would just be finding me on the map.

Using the World Map to find someone requires them to be on your Friends List and that you have to check the box option to allow them to see you on the map.

Otherwise, they are using scripted objects of some sort. Either sim, or person.

....or camming across the sim. *shrugs* If it's jsut for fun they could jsut be disabling their camera constraints and watching you from across the sim lol

Do you know about huds? If the person is in the same sim as you they can see your name and how far away you are with a hud attachment like the mystitool.

if you ever gave camera tracking permissions to any object you don't own, I believe it might still have it, and it can tell the global position (the coordinates on the grid itself, not just on a single sim) your camera is at, I'm just unware of means of teleporting to a place if you only know the global coordinates but it coudl be possible

It's highly doubtful that it's someone using an avatar scanner, as the distance it works is quite limited compared to the size of the world. (Over 8000 sims). The only way an avatar scanner would help would be if they know the handful of sims you hang around in, and bounce around those servers looking for you. If it is a scripted item, there's no sensor involved, a simple llGetRegionName() and llGetPos() IM'd to the creator using llInstantMessage() using llGetCreator() (if they wrote it), or hard coding their name into the script. It would take all of about 5 minutes to write. They also may have chat spys planted in areas (that would allow it) that you hang out, and watch for open chat from you.

Back in the day, (about 8 months ago, and prior), you could simple map someone by typing in their name in the map window, which, you still can if you allow them to see your online status as was previously stated.

If I were you, I'd be worried. Sounds as if you have a "stalker". If you wear anything they've given you, remove it, or at least check it for scripts. Even if the script is labeled differently, (like "bling script";) or something similar, the code that transmits your location could be buried in that... lose it. or delete the script (that'll really throw them because they'll see you're still wearing it, yet it wont work for them).

Is this sort of stuff possible. Absolutely.

Teake, you haven't given us much context here.

These people tracking you are on your friends list?

They can track you across all of SL or when you're in the same area? Like, if you pick a random spot on the map and double-click it, can they follow?

Just wait a couple of generations of spybots -

Then we will all be trackable, all the time.

It wont be against the TOS so well just have to grin and bear it.

------------------

As far as whats already out there -

You can easily get a scanner that will not only track avatars within 64 meters but also give you their UUID (is this the right acronym) Character number.

You can use that number to input into a "Online status" script.

So it is possible to follow someone if you have a rough idea where they hang out, since you will know when they are online.

I'm not sure this is entriely true, 3ring, though it would slow them down. People not on my friends list show up as on line by just looking them up in a people search right over where it says "Born:" it may say "Currently Online."

That's a little creepy until I realize no life and death harm can really come from it. If anyone is a real pest, we can always get an alt and start over for a while, unless there are a lot of business interests to attend to.

Look, if you feel creeped out, uncheck them, or whatever else it takes, no matter whether they are "friends" or not, to get rid of them. This is YOUR experience here in SL, and it is YOUR life, in RL and SL both. You owe no explanations or apologies to anyone about what makes you comfortable in your own skin about either or both. NONE whatsoever! And if someone tries to guilt-trip you about that, know that you have found a covert enemy you need to guard against. Life can be a bitch. But then, if you are a full-fledged adult, you know that already.

Was playing with my map and found that you can locate people that are on your friends list if they want you to and have enabled the persmisson so to do.
No worries, its been taken care of. I'm not a stalker by any means! LOL. Was just trying out stuff!

If this was the case, couldn't he examine the attachments and easily find the script?
