yep the properway to handle someone on your land who says you cant ban him is to Freeze, then Eject and ban him.

Just freezing them is fun ... you can always ban them after they get fed up with being stuck while you have a surreal conversation around them ...

You should know that there are some known issues with some of the LSL functions and in order to prevent security devices from attacking the wrong people, you have to take some extra steps and add some extra precautions. If your orb is attacking innocent people then you can get in trouble for inadvertently griefing folks.

aslong the script isn`t targetting ppl outside of ur land boundries, u won`t attack innocent ppl as it`s ur land ;)

I hate those security orbs, not only is it annoying for people who are just flying by to get pretty much SHOT AT. But they can cause horrible amounts of lag and grief to your neighbors.
Make your land a no build zone or group only build zone, this way people can't create bullets to shoot you or littler your land with boxes.
Some of the people who have just randomly wandered onto my land have been really nice and are now considered friends. If you don't want to talk to them then don't, if they bother you, right click them and ban/eject. Its alot cheaper and easier than installing a big rude lag monster.

yes, for on the land, i use my orbs at 350m, no one has anything to do up that high except being nosy as it`s 200m abouve normal flight lvl

Tee hee, when I had land on the mainland, sometimes when I was bored I would rez an airplane and fly around playing chicken with the skybox security orbs...seeing how close I could get, how many warnings I could get, before finaly getting kicked out of my plane.

As for the orbs being laggy...that's a pretty general comment. I've checked the script performance on my island and I can tell you, security orbs are nowhere near the top when it comes to using server resources. Like anything, they can be made well or they can be made poorly. For what its worth, the stuff I see at the top of the lag list are sex beds/furniture. It'd take a hundred security orbs to lag as much as one shoddily-made sex bed.

Hi,

I bought a small plot of land (1024) and I *thought* I had it secured. My house is a skybox above the height that one can fly without assistance, the doors are locked and the land is set only to allow specific named friends. Despite all this I was there today when a complete stranger appeared in my home. This was rather disconcerting. I tried to add him to the ban list, but he told me that I couldn't ban him. Can anyone tell me how he got in in the first place, how he was able to avoid a ban, and how I can prevent such things happening in the future?

Many thanks.

Install the Home Security Orb. That will keep him out.

i agree that orbs at ground level are annoying, but my orbs are all higher than 600m, where my workshops are located. they have 10 seconds to clear 30m, theyre only attacked if they elect to hover around the workshop. i dont discourage people from visiting me or my property at ground level.

Clarification
05-16-2007 14:21
OK just to clarify for people who aren't sure there are various methods you can use: -

LANDOWNER TOOLS

Access list - this will allow only those people/groups/payment info status people into your parcel that you want, with the caveat of the height restriction as previously stated. The OP's skybox is way above that and therefore cannot be protected in this way against people randomly wandering in.

Ban/Eject/Freeze - with the exception of Lindens, these tools will work on anyone, even those sitting or using shields (I once took great pleasure in educating a griefer who sat on a box and taunted me saying I couldn't do anything...). So these should be your primary recourse if someone appears inside your house and causes trouble. It is YOUR RIGHT as landowner to use these tools on whoever you wish on your land, it's not griefing. However, it *may* be considered griefing if you orbit or shoot them even on your own land (contentious but LL may stick to letter of ToS on this issue). But no one can dispute your right to use landowner tools. Only you as landowner can do this however, not other people who share your parcel with you unless you set it to group and enable them the banning rights in group.

SECURITY DEVICES

Eg Psykes Homesecurity Orbs (I mention these because I have experience using them). These make use of your landowner powers to dispose of unwanted visitors. Various control measures include Pushing them (probably not a good idea), teleporting them home or ejecting them from the parcel. Again because they are landowner powers via a different method, you cannot evade these by sitting or using shields and they are legal according to ToS. The caveat here is where push is applied and goes out of your parcel because that would be griefing. Also it's polite to give a decent amount of notice before the security measure is implemented - not nice to accidentally wander onto a plot and suddenly be propelled simwards just as you see a little blue box appear on your screen telling you to get out! Or if you're an aviation enthusiast and you fly very near a house that you didn't see and boom you're teleported home and your plane continues on its way....

That said, the OP could use one of these in the skybox to ensure security and prevent randoms wandering in since the access list feature here works differently to the landowner tools and there is no height restriction up to normal ceiling of 768m.

It's also a way of sharing your landowner powers with your fellow occupants of the parcel without having to set up a group plot.

OTHER MEASURES

Well think about it. If you can't push, and you can't build then most griefers can't really do much (as you can't cage, orbit or shoot a gun) apart from verbally abuse or texture spam (then you mute them). So think about the parcel settings a bit.

Just remember if you ban someone they can however outside and shoot in, and your no build won't stop them....but stopping object entry will.

Apologies for replicating some of what has been said, but I thought I'd summarise!

I have always kept my lands open to the public and have made some good friends that way.

Griefers are always welcome too as I love to freeze them and scold them senseless while I put pee puddles on the ground under them. Eventually I will end their misery and give them the boot. The strange thing is that I have had no repeat customers. :D

You skipped step 2 where you poke fun at them while they're frozen :)

Falling from above onto a parcel you're not allowed into will cause you to continually bounce at the height limit.

On a random note this is probably one of the funniest ways to get across the grid. Just jump down on a baned plot then see how many sims you can skip across by falling on one baned plot after another. I think I made it across 11 sims once before I hit the ground.
