5000L CHALLENGE: What's the ugliest sim you've ever seen?

As for the sim... It could be that it's swarming with newb builds, loaded with advertisements, horrible terrain, ... You tell me what's ugly

I'll list all the nominations in this post for: Ugliest Sim in Second Life, as well as the names of those who suggested them as contenders. You're strongly encouraged to voice your opinion on which you feel is the ugliest and why. This will help others determine the eventual winner.

The contest will run until the end of March after which I'll tally the votes. Everyone will be permitted to vote once for a sim other than the one they submitted. If you wish to change your vote, editting your post will be sufficient. I'll do my best to tally results at least once per day. A maximum of 3 submissions will be permitted per person so as to give everyone a reasonable chance of winning.

1st Place: 5,000L --> sure beats camping!

Govenor Linden land is not ugly. Especially if you are hiding under a box doing what comes naturally. Had no idea PG could be so much fun. *wink*

What you mean building a prettness or just poorly build and designed sims/islands.....Take a look in the top 10 you find a few pretty bad looking/designed sim/islands there.

Rofl I kind of like Governor Linden land myself... Gives you the piece of mind of knowing your safe... At least temporarily

A bit of both Yes some of those are quite bad, however I'm looking for something that will (in comparison) make those seem beautiful.

I checked out the land referenced in the "Neighbor's land worst than a sandbox" thread (forgot the sim name I'll come back and edit) and man what a dump. One beautiful house surrounded by ban lines and neighbors with junk trying to get rid of him, and there was even a 512 plot devoted entirely to promoting a pyramid scam (since AR'd).

I think the beautiful house in the sim full of garbage lends this sim a special poignancy. If it wins, give the money to him.

I wonder if the land ad part of the website you are advertising in the Resident Answers forum will have many ads from parcels that are named in the ugly sim contest you are advertising in the Resident Answers forum?

Not sure. I guess we'll have to wait and see. As for my forum selection, I refrained from calling it a contest since at least to me and my degree of English fluency, the word contest makes it seem more dependant on luck, rather than hard work, knowledge, or a familiarity with ugly sims in Second Life.

Not sure what the worst sim is, my vote would normally be for Thunberg. But this must surely count as the worst parcel.

I'm a relative SL newbie, and don't know much about land...

But for a "SL Land Bible," wouldn't you want to point out that everything EXCEPT horrible terrain may very well change, just by waiting? Or that even if the land you are looking at is currently surrounded by pleasant, beautiful builds, that there is no reason that it will still look like that in 1 or 2 month's time, barring covenant?

If so, why would builds / advertisements / giant neon floating penises necessarily affect a land-buying decision?

You're reasoning makes sense intuitively, however there are a few factors you're missing. In the long run (defining long run as economically speaking), yes it would not matter. However, suppose someone has owned a rotating penis loaded with prims for 6 months now... Heck, suppose the person's house is 1 giant penis -- what's the probability of that changing anytime soon? The larger the parcel they own, the more likely they are to be staying in SL for awhile (unless the parcel is for resale, in which case it likely wouldn't have a giant penis on it). Now, it's important to note I use the word likely. It isn't a written rule, but generally you don't invest a ton of money in something unless you think it's right for you -- or you have a ton of disposable income and care not what happens to it.

Likewise, suppose there's a giant FOR SALE sign wherever you look and the price the person is asking is several times the going rate (i.e. 10000L for a 16sqm parcel). There is a very high probability this user is attempting to force the nearby resident to buy this parcel by making it as undesirable as possible and "wrecking" your view of the surrounding area. Or suppose the build near you is entitled: Reece's Porn Shop or Reece's Brand New Casino. Now, you know there is likely alot of lag in your future should these become popular. Best to not take the chance.

In essence, there are several guidelines one would be recommended to follow when buying a parcel. This consists of merely a short list of what one would be suggested to avoid. If anyone can find me a giant penis house, loaded with for sale signs around it, I think you stand a fair chance of winning

I don't see really anything wrong with that area either. There are worse spots to be found than that on almost any sim.

Are those the real colors? Pepto-bismol pink? Yuck! But if the land is really the normal colors, I wouldn't say it was too bad.

I don't think this is the forum for promoting your website and also inviting people to trash talk other people's creations/neighbourhoods, however awful you think they may be. I remember the infonet tourbus from hell or whatever it was causing a mighty ruckus, and this isn't much different.

It's just a cynical ploy to get traffic to boost your business.

I see nothing wrong with this thread. I doesn't say anywhere in the terms of service we can't discuss areas of SL in need of a facelift. We're all adults here... Or at least we're supposed to be. Let's act like it...
