Working in SL as builder is like dating someone with an erectile dysfunction... It's a persistent problem, it will probably never go away, yet we keep on hoping, it's never their fault and we have to always show understanding, be supportive.... |

Well the way I see it, was this farse was a totally pointless situation, sure the Lindens did a sweep of everything in world by ths creator, btw causing alot of chaos for people like me with 50+ items for sale in a shop with damaged scripts not to mention all those who had already bought MLP items from us. Only to be told rerez the item and it will work. Exactly what was the point of deleting anything that she created just so we can re rez them from our inventory? All it has done is cause alot of chaos displayed yet again the lack of any thought by some lindens and in a weeks time the whole of SL will be flooded with the same items from peoples inventory's. Thanks lindens, cos I will still be fixing the mess long after they have flooded the platform again!

Anyone who wasn't legit seems to be doing the same thing: I went to peek at the store where my friend got her couch (it has all the unlicensed animations in it) and all the scripts are there in his name now and still being sold. Unless there's actually a push to go after *everyone* who's reselling those animation there really was little point because one person got targetted and all the others just continue happily infringing and profting from it. Oh, I've no doubt that the bottom feeders amongst us are already back in business. I also would be not at all surprised if Craig, Johan, and Parslan started filing DMCA's on people who have not either purchased their animations full perm or obtained licenses now that this has blown up so spectacularly. If they aren't keeping actual records of their customers, then they lose, but I suspect most of them are. I doubt this is the last we've seen of this issue. We are talking about thousands of RL dollars these guys have lost due to their work being pirated and resold. _____________________

I support any reasonable effort to protect creators of content (I am one after all), but this was simply an idiotic action that was not given proper thought or oversight. I use MLPV2, and NOT any ripped off animations. My partner and I worked very hard on our products to create original high quality animations in excellent merchandise.
The result of the Linden action was to destroy our customer's purchases, requiring us to now invest a huge amount of time to remedy the needless and unwarranted damage. The total lack of response to their actions in the forums let alone the blog or to the what must be thousands of individuals they harmed, speaks volumes to me about the lack of concern the Lindens have for legitimate creators and consumers. They act when they think they have to cover their butt from legal action, and if it's done in an incompetent manner that improperly harms users, tough. Perhaps a class action suit for damages is needed to get them to take responsibility for this mess. |

There's a posting on the blog now.
Gotta laugh or is that cry at how it begins "Linden Lab inadvertently disabled..." |

Okay, so someone explain this to me....
A bed that came in an airship I bought, a bed with no mod/no transfer perms pretty much throughout, had scripts ripped, but I can re-rez the thing and it's fine. The scripts are EC. A sex bed I found/bought god only knows with full perms that is in my inventory with Miffy Fluffy as the script creator, has no problems. Everything in it is full perm, I think. h Both beds have Craig Altman, et. al as the animators. Mostly the same scripts. Sooooo..... are there any beds which list EC as the script writer and Craig Altman which are legit? What about the Miffy Fluffy scripts/beds containing those animations? Personally, I want to know what content is legit and what isn't, just in general. Is there any place that lists known things that are "usually" stolen goods? I can guess, from the "free skins" that float around, that a good chunk of those are stolen, except that I also know of one skin designer who is just flat out giving away her skin files with no strings attached. I'd like to know which shops to avoid, which to patronize. Am pulling the beds out of my builds for sale. |

My explanation is here: /327/20/265318/1.html#post2035065/327/20/265318/1.html#post2035065 Yes, it's a good idea to pull those beds from your product. They contain infringing animations, and some future legal action might make them disappear. |

FWIW, based on the assortment of reports here and comments on the blog post, I'm fairly well convinced that the action LL took had nothing to do with animations in the first place.
It's still wrong that there are all these animations floating around that may be infringing (well, more accurately: there are recent posts from some of those animators saying that the animations weren't intended for full-perms distribution, or only under licensed terms). But honestly, this is no way to run a railroad. There's something fundamentally wrong with a system in which the way customers learn of violations is by after-the-fact word-of-mouth by individuals in a relatively obscure forum. Honestly, any resident who today re-rezzes the "inadvertently disabled" objects and uses the dubious animations would not just be well within their rights (as far as we know, officially), but would in fact be following instructions of the service provider. For that matter, they should just go right back to *selling* this stuff, for all anybody knows officially. Nobody has confirmation of any DMCA takedown or other official notice of violation--it's all hearsay at this point. I'm not saying this is right in any way. But that's how it is. And somebody concerned with these specific animations should be motivated to change that, because asking for voluntary compliance among the single-digit percentage of residents who've ever looked at the forums is really not going to be effective. _____________________

A bed that came in an airship I bought, a bed with no mod/no transfer perms pretty much throughout, had scripts ripped, but I can re-rez the thing and it's fine. The scripts are EC. /me beats his head against the desk. The scripts are not ripped. The scripts were (are) legitimate, and are being used exactly as licensed by the original creator, Miffy Fluffy. The animations are what was ripped. EC was a content thief against which LL decided to take action. Unfortunately they decided to just delete everything with EC as the creator. This: 1) Left the illegal animations still in place 2) Deleted LEGITIMATE content (the scripts) that had EC listed as a creator 3) Deleted SOME illegal content with EC as the creator In other words, accomplished almost nothing of what they say they intended. But to repeat: The scripts with EC listed as the creator were NOT ripped, and WERE perfectly legitimate. (Unlike most of her other items.) _____________________
I dont know what the actual answer is.. I just know LLs response was at best...flaccid. That's a very good way to put it, and now I know why we still haven't seen the promised blog entry... ...the Lindens are still waiting for their shipment of Lie-agra to come in to firm up their flaccid reasoning. |

When I heard about this, like you, went to the forums and 24 hours later had acquired licenses/replacement animations from Craig, Parsalin (these actually have for resale by Carrah Rossini) in the about field, Nytemyst (bought new set), and Johan. 24 hours later I sent out updated vehicles which feature the poses to all or my customers (or tried to, in SL updates are only as good as the asset server). I've also kept transaction IDs of the animation purchased just in case. Problem now is this: I got an IM from a customer this morning (I think you know her ![]() I expect more of these IMs in the coming days; I'm not sure what to do next... Just wait and see I guess. Feel free to IM me in world... |

I am not entirely sure if the 'just rez a new copy' really works. I had a few things I was repairing from this drama on my building platform last night. When I logged back in all their scripts were gone...again.

Jen, the scripts are indeed legit. However, if you want to get copies that don't have EC as creator, you can find them at SLX listed under my name, as MLPV2 (an enhanced version, but backwards compatible).
However, as mentioned above, it no doubt includes infringing animations, and you'd be wise to follow your instinct and remove them from your product. |

When I logged back in all their scripts were gone...again. See my post above for a way to get a clean set of scripts. Very odd that the scripts would be deleted last night, but there's no shortage of 'odd' here. Hopefully you have the notecards, and all your anims are legitimate. |

Misspoke. Ripped as in "ripped out of", not as in "inappropriately copied".
Still taking the beds out of my builds, my volume is not high enough to pay for something I basically included as a courtesy in a very low cost item I created. Whether or not it is "legal" to sell these things, IP violations leave a bad taste in my mouth. Now.... the list of animators who license their stuff (or not) is REALLY helpful...but will someone do the same thing with skins? Make a list of swiped textures commonly available in freebie packs? (I know several people who just hand out textures they make to whoever and don't care, but I also suspect a lot of the ones I have are not legit. I'm working on only puttting in textures I make or know the original source for in my stuff, but am mostly selling ply builds right now and letting people texture their own...) I loved freebies when I was new... but now, not so much. |

Now.... the list of animators who license their stuff (or not) is REALLY helpful...but will someone do the same thing with skins? I'll let someone else tackle that, 'cause I don't know enough about skins. I cheated right at the very beginning : I hired a Personal Appearance Consultant in-world to just tell me what I was going to "wear". Josephine Menendez. She was a hoot! _____________________
