I just want to know what happened to the good ol days...when forums werent full of errors and "help me", and we actually had a chance to explore the fantastic world that our fellow sl brothers and sisters have created! I've almost lost sight of why I keep coming back, I said, ALMOST..I know those things are still out there, and so MANY awsome ppl I've met..that I wouldnt have otherwise. Please, tell me, what keeps you coming back to SL, so that i can remember, TOO!

Actually it's the ppl I've met, my land, my sl partner and those close enough to me to consider them family. There's still so much more to see and explore so I can't stay away.

kinda got mixed feelings about it. In a way it is worth it, and also not worth it. It has tools that give you creation abilities, but they are borked and only work partial time. It's a massive social world, full of griefers and scammers. It's a great place to live, if you don't care about privacy. You can do almost anything, as long as other people like it. You can live your dreams, but others will try to destroy or insult you for it.

You talking RL or SL here??

Aren't they sometimes the same... when there is a good thing to be had, there will always be those social misfits that like to spoil things for others, or see some way of gaining something from those they consider the 'haves'?

For me the answer is Yes!

But there are reasons it's called Second Life and not First Utopia.

It's worth it. In spades.

I, too, long for the feeling I had when I first joined up. It was like being on vacation in the most perfect Disney World ever. But as I grew less naive and the infatuation wore off, I discovered much more.

I grew and learned how to do things I never thought possible. I can almost write a script. I can share ideas with others and they become real. I have friends who I wouldn't trade for a million Lindens. (Well, maybe a million Spike Lindens. He's my hero.) I can do most anything I choose to do (except eat cheesecake. When will someone invent a taste script?) and I don't have to worry about failure.

I'm so sorry Yiffy Yaffle has experienced this:

People can only hurt me if I choose to let them hurt me. I use my mute button generously, don’t respond to idiot postings in the forums, and follow the rule of the bumble bee and its ability to fly…

SL offers me the oportunity to express my creativeity by creating content and then selling those virtual creations for (ultimateley) real money. Everytime somebody purchases something from me they are expressing appreciation for my abilites There is no other platform (that I am aware of) that can offer me this opportunity and I am more than happy to pay LL for the privilidge and suffer the few minor techinical issues I have experienced over the last few years.

I wasn't here for the good ol days - I was part of the baby boom of free accounts that was accompanied by the massive errors. I've never known this world that you speak of, and my guess is that most of the people on the forums haven't either.

I'm here because I heard grand tales of this fantastic world, and I'm trying to explore it without being assailed by too much spinning porn!

I haven't even begun to explore the vast number of sites within SL, and I'm looking forward to doing so in the future!

But I can tell you the one thing that makes SL worth every penny. ( For me at least ) The friends I've made. They've become an extended family! I only wish I could spent more time in-world.

I will have been in SL 3 years next month so I do remember the so called good old days (how "good" they were is open for debate). But the here and now is still pretty fantastic.

There are now about 60 members of my RL family in game all working together, creating, learning, enjoying each others company. We span 2 countries and many thousands of miles. You can't put a price on our time together.

Some memories of worth.

The awe and joy on one family members face when she walked, danced, flew, and snowboarded for the first time in her life. You see she was born with Cerebral Palsy and has never known life out of her chair.

Watching another family member learn to function again and think again following a severe head injury. How? Through learning slowly and painfully how to build in SL. Stretching her mind beyond what any doctor thought would ever be possible for her again.

Personally its been a journey of small steps for me. From my small first land in Europa (yeah that dates me) to being co owner of Dragon Isle. From having to get the creators help to place a prefab to building Venice. I wouldn't tade one of the trial and tribulations along the way.

SL like RL is a journey. What we get out of it is up to us.

LOL... 2 old ladies stood next to me in a castle saying how lovely it must have been in those days.... after 30 minutes of hearing about the clothing etc.. I remarked, yeah.. the ducking stools, black plague wipping out half the population, no loo rolls.. no running water or central heating, no mail or phones, lawlessness much greater than today, lynching parties, bathing once a year if you were rich, starvation, no freezers/fridges to keep food fresher, no washing machines..... after 10 minutes of my list, they began to walk away.. and I finished by saying.... but some of the clothes were cool looking, except for the mens tights....

I think that's one of the best SL stories I've ever heard! Amazing!

Wow, Darkness! That story moved me...I recently met a girl with MS and she couldn't grasp her own happiness of being able to walk, dance, fly and all the other things she couldn't do anymore in RL. Needless to say I cried sitting behind my computer. But that experience makes SL even better for me! Just thought I'd share this....

Ty Mandy.

I think for many they get so caught up in the day to day garbage that happens that they don't even realise when amazing things are happening around them. That I find very sad.

Darkness Anubis, the post is lagging, it seems to be associated with your signature pic in your profile. Has your server lost the texture, or have you deleted it?

This is what keeps me coming back. I am disabled also, thankfully not to the extent of people who can never get out of their wheelchairs. I have arthritis and spend probably 95% of my waking time in one chair or another, either the rolling or non-rolling variety. In SL I can run around, fly, build stuff, get out and talk to people, shop till I drop, and do any number of other things. Yeah, the glitches bother me a lot. Some real life demands on my time and money were the last straw, I gave up my land and went back to a basic membership. But the great things about SL keep me stubbornly hanging on. I hope that things will improve, both in RL and SL, so that I can upgrade again and get a larger lot to play with.
