From: Skell Dagger 'Show printable version' I'd already tried that, and it seems that 40 posts per page of results is all you can get, at least it didn't increase when I changed the 40 in the url to 4000. The undying thread produced, I think, over 1,700 pages at 40 posts per thread, if memory serves. There are some greasemonkey scripts to override this behavior but they may not work because this forum is such an old version. I don't know what the result would be if this did work, I suspect hung browser. --- There is a feed for unanswered questions, at https://blogs.secondlife.com/community/feeds/unansweredthreads?community=2059, and presumably one for possibly answered and answered. So I suppose you could use a feed reader that handles privates feeds and merges multiple feeds into one stream to see them all together. This wouldn't thread the responses in, I suspect. --- There needs to be a category for questions about the website. I don't see one.

From: Nimue Jewell Better be careful. One of the self answered questions threatens the $9.95 fee per alt and the five per household limit again. since the banning of traffic bots, people could put their useless accounts to work in yet another useless way... but not for free, it seems.

From: SuezanneC Baskerville In order to access the blog when this error message starts appearing I have to clear all cookies for "secondlife", which means logging back in to the forums, the wiki, the jira, and the blog site. Clearing cookies only seems to last for a day for me and then the error comes right back. I'm too lazy to clear my cookies right now so I'll just read the rest of this thread and check the blog out tomorrow.

i havent been able to connect to 'blogs.secondlife.com' for a fair while now, so whatever this new thing is is pretty useless to me. not sure if i will bother migrating either. slu, ss, dod, etc are obviously off the table. slx is far too risky to participate in. 3rings forum is on a free host, and those are so unstable im not likely to invest any time into them. i suppose i will retire to the grid

Maybe LL should use Google Wave when it comes out for a communication system.

Why don't we all just go over there and make threads chit chatting about the weather and stuff. Then it will be pretty much the same as any other forum. Although less intuitive because it's totally new software built from scratch that no-one has any familiarity with.

From: Arcady Yue The experience for new people to SL can be extremely rough - as I can attest, it takes a lot of effort, luck, and know how just to figure out the most basic aspects of this place. - it then gets very easy to forget how hard it was.
Hopefully this thing will just become a new user resource and -NOT- phase out this forum, because I rather like having a forum around to read and converse on when at a location where I can't really log into a 'video game' (and like it or not, anyone seeing SL on your screen who is not part of SL is going to assume its a game, and you'll be very hard pressed to explain its anything else). All so very true.

I went, I saw, I pass.
It's stark, sterile, and the accumulating points thing is ridiculous. I don't have any use for it. I'm staying here till they shut the place down.

Blue Linden quote in reply to saying New Forums, "I have misspoke, sorry! I meant to say "New Blogs". Enabling this threaded Discussion format, however, is a step towards new forums. Which I am looking forward to as vBulliten is not my favorite bit of software."

Another "improvement" that makes me feel incredibly stupid cause I can't make any sense of it at all.
I really hope they are going to change the format. Like the new LL blog format, I find it harder to get information than with the old system.
New is not always better.

vBulletin is just fine from a user's point of view. I've used vBulletin forums as a user for years and never once wished to have the forum software changed.

vbulletin with a post via email feature would be great. Heck, I'd take google groups or Yahoo groups over a straight BBS any day.

From: 3Ring Binder is there any way to download whole threads from these forums outside of the "open each thread individually and cut/paste" method? I have done it with the Adult content threads by opening the thread and setting it to the printer friendly version then displaying 40 answers to a page then saving each page as an htm file to my HD. Then once the whole thread is on my HD I then converted them to a .pdf The result can be seen here: http://www.slapt.me/wiki/index.php/Archived_SL_Forum_ThreadsThats the only way I have found so far

there are products known as 'site rippers' or 'harvesters' that could download the entire forum to your harddrive. i think even IE has similar functionality, or it did at one point.

Not impressed with the format. It looks muddled and over-complicated to me, and like Mari I didn't find it very intuitive to use.
There didn't seem to be any way to vote in a poll, nothing to indicate which questions and replies are already read and which are new, and I also couldn't get the "quote previous message" button to work.

I just had a look at it and I'm not sure I like it. Also there's someone over there who appears to be posting random questions and then answering them himself. EDIT: Actually I've had a second look and there appear to be a couple of people posting questions and then answering themselves. Very strange...

EDIT: Actually I've had a second look and there appear to be a couple of people posting questions and then answering themselves. Very strange... I think it's sorta supposed to be building a database so seeing people post a question and an answer is just them trying to get the DB populated. It looks like it marks the thread 'possibly answered' any time ANY respose is posted. I think it would be a lot better if that was not the default or if they added a button for "reply but don't mark it 'possibly answered'" or if there was a new category for 'updated'.

From: Zim Gunsberg EDIT: Actually I've had a second look and there appear to be a couple of people posting questions and then answering themselves. Very strange... It's a beta, they're just trying to generate some traffic and show how it COULD be used, I think. I assumed those folks were Linden alts until one posted in blog comments. It IS puzzling, but I wouldn't spend a lot of cycles wondering about it. Wouldn't be surprising if this beta data were wiped when it goes fully live. .
