LL is a hosting company, I don't really see the difference between suing LL over lost inventory and suing an email provider for loosing your emails, or suing a web host. I know from other online games that they have strick rules on not replacing lost items. I remember one occasion people tried to sue OSI/EA over lost items due a bug. They lost the case big time. Both UK entities, and therefore a doddle. Since SL operate under US law, not only are you dealing with a whole new set of consumer laws (AFAIK US consumer law doesn't offer anywhere near the same protection as UK law), but the cost of either attending a US court or paying for representation to do so for you will far outweigh the cost of action.
