Hm but why announce it after the 1.15 client upgrade where that new shape is not.

Maybe they're shattering prim limits. And the different background images of the fracturing will change day-to-day leading to a blog announcement of significantly increased limits, hence the title of the site: "Overloading you with cubes"

Of course, the shattering effect could alos lead to shattered straight edges of cubes. And the "overload" thing could reflect that the new prim will afford you more cubes to work with, since you can dismantle the dozens of cubes now required for such a shape.

On the other far-out hand... it could mean that LL will offer floating sims, a-la a giant skybox (underground) with no land or water, only prims.

So we get told about chamfer cuboids on Friday then?

I'm loathe to look any deeper for clues in case there aren't.

I agree! :)

But what I find interesting is some guy named Peekay pops up with a link to some silly website that he can't have just stumbled upon. So he has either been given a tip off from a Linden, or he's a sadistic nut who is trying to lead us down a empty rabbit hole. :)

I aint going down!

Lots of little cubes, adds one a minute. Sometime Friday it'll reach the end of the page.

Anyone a Spongebob fan? I ain't got a clue about that (missing word, presumably).

EDIT: Also, I imageshacked the previous image in case it vanishes. Not that it seems to have any clues in it.

Please tell me you know who the Beatles are!?!?

In the town where I was born,
Lived a man who sailed to sea,
And he told us of his life,
In the land of submarines,

So we sailed up to the sun,
Till we found a sea of green,
And we lived beneath the waves,
In our yellow submarine,

We all live in a yellow submarine,
Yellow submarine, yellow submarine,
We all live in a yellow submarine,
Yellow submarine, yellow submarine,

And our friends are all aboard,
Many more of them live next door,
And the band begins to play.

(Trumpets play)

We all live in a yellow submarine,
Yellow submarine, yellow submarine,
We all live in a yellow submarine,
Yellow submarine, yellow submarine,

(weird sounds)

As we live a life of ease,
Everyone of us has all we need (has all we need)
Sky of blue (sky of blue) and sea of green (sea of green)
In our yellow (in our yellow) submarine (submarine. Blaaaha)

We all live in a yellow submarine,
Yellow submarine, yellow submarine,
We all live in a yellow submarine,
Yellow submarine, yellow submarine,

We all live in a yellow submarine,
Yellow submarine, yellow submarine.(fade)

I counted the number of boxes allotted for: 4096

That's counting the number already there, and the number of <br>'s holding space for the rest.

Maybe 1.15 isn't really the release that they wanted to release. Maybe it is just an excuse to shut down the grid to do what ever they really wanted to do. We know they can have more then 1 viewer for the grid. Maybe the real update is coming later this week.

Hmmm.... I could see LL doing something like this with a change that could change the world as we know it.

If perfection is not 90, and they are overloading you with cubes....

FFS... of course I do.

I also know the words on that page are different from the original song; the only character I know of who lives in a pineapple is Spongebob Squarepants and there's a word missing. One would assume that word is a clue, no?

I borrowed the movie to flick through last night (it actually looks surprisingly funny) but it didn't seem to have the song in it, I was hoping someone has a kid that watches the series (or watches it themselves) and could help.

This morning the "!?!?!?" has changed to a pair of eyes. Possibly looks like the starfish, I think his name's Patrick, but appending either of those things to the URL isn't helping.

I think the sponge bob reference is a nod to his geometric shape. Sponge bob is yellow and the song parodied is Yellow Submarine. I think it's just a stream of consciousness compressed.

erm, those don't look like parameter prims, they look like mesh prims.
I think there will also be something new about coloring a surface, like gradient.

They're "sculpted prims" according to the poster. The gradient colouring looks like a normal map, which suggests to me this may be done with some form of displacement map.

EDIT: Allegedly it's a variation on nurbs.

Pardon my ignorance, what's a displacement map?

they could still be metaballs, and remain parameter prims. it looks like a sphere that's been pulled and pushed around, like metaballs can be.

The source code of Second Life contains an unused, unimplemented build tool called Morph or Face Edit.

The way it seemed to work is that for any given surface of a prim, you have the regular texture for the prim, and then you have a second "texture" which isn't drawn as a texture at all. Instead, the brighter the second texture is at any given point, the further that point on the prim surface is extruded (ie, "pushed out";) from where it would normally be. So if you have a cube prim with a 'bump texture' of a black square with a white circle in the middle, then you get a cube with a circular bit sticking out in the middle. It's a bit like the way you upload terrain for private islands, but for prims.

As far as I'm aware there is nothing in the existing source code to enable this other than a menu option which is commented out, but it's certainly something that the heavy duty open-source people could potentially have been working on..

Whatever they are, I hope their shape will be gettable and settable by LSL.

Ouch, if that's how they are created, modeling is going to be a pain...

Well - as I said, from the source code it looks like they were originally going to be editable inside the client itself, via a sort of terraforming on individual faces of prims. But there's very little to go on, really - only a few, commented out, references - so the above is by no means definate or gospel.

That would be absolutely lovely, but somehow I doubt it.

I've used them before in general 3D modelling and it's actually a really nice way of doing lots of things.

You know, it's not likely but I'd really like it if this is shader-based (occlusion mapping). Had a discussion about it recently here (some good pics & vids on page 3).
