I have met many wonderful people and have friends now in Japan, England, Germany, upper Canada and the far off wilds of New Jersey.
I rediscovered my passion for architecture.
I learned how to be a good landlord.
I learned new tricks in Photoshop.
I learned how to sew!
I fell in love.
I can fly when I'm bummed about RL.
I discovered amazing art from geniuses like Starax.
I invented the first SL human pinball machine. Yeehaa!
I met wonderful scripters who have been patient with me, to say the least.
I can sky dive without a parachute.
I invented my own SL art form.
I can reinvent myself over and over.
---Whew! I gotta rest. Too much of this and the Lindens will start remembering why they started this hootenanny in the first place.

From: Rocky Rutabaga I can sky dive without a parachute. I think that aptly sums up my landing technique! "The Faceplant" To Rocky's list I would add: I derive pleasure from getting gangs of people to dress up as chickens I can stay underwater for as long as I like without getting wet I learned to sail ( Thanks to the legendary Tako ) I can create an almost limitless number of wooden cubes I just loooove the sunsets I can drink copious margharitas without either a) getting drunk or b) paying anything etc etc This is almost a seperate "Great things I can do in SL post"

Mandy C Another Sunday worker, yay... oh wait... *sob* /me must resist urge to load SL on company computers... [EDIT] Just to keep things on-topic... I love SL. Money spent on SL is like money spent on candy- worth every penny, and I don't expect to see it back again once I've spent it. (Though I did make a profit on selling a 512m plot once). Lag sucks, grid downtime really sucks. I keep coming back though.

Boning up on another Language
05-12-2007 06:10
I have discovered a new positive to SL.
Re-learning a language.
English is my first language but German my mother tongue, which I haven't spoken in about 20 years. Every so often I'm able to exercise my (lack of) skill in German when meeting a German resident. Last night I carried on a pretty decent discussion with a German new resident. How cool is that?

From: Steve Mahfouz I felt a bit guilty this morning that perhaps I've been overly critical of LL lately. I strongly believe that when you are paying a corporation hard-earned money for "goods and services", you should get an adequate level of customer service as well as quality in the product and/or service. Even if it's "a game" or a platform.
The positive side: I've been here about 18 months now and I still love the place, warts and all. This is the 3D internet and to me, a lot of fun. So much to see, so much to do, so much to experience. People to meet from all over the world. 99% of everyone I've met have been decent, nice people. There is a steep learning curve but hell, I enjoy it. It's a challenge to me and it feels good to gradually master it. The client has forced me to radically upgrade my hardware and now I have a kickass computer that is good for any task you can throw at it. I've learned a lot about IT and networks since I've been here, and I have a lot to learn.
I love this place. I would not work here 40+ hours a week if I did not, honest to God. Have a great weekend. Steve i still feel the same way as you do, and look how long I've been around. They really do make a lot of mistakes, but they did provide the world with a open canvas to express themselves in. I get mixed feelings about LL all the time. Sometimes i feel that I could do better, but then i stop and think about the time put into the creation of SL and how long it's stayed in existence. We may think that LL's actions will doom their creation, but honestly it's not going anywhere.

SL is a grand adventure for me like being able to live inside a Jules Verne novel.
I had dreams as a child of flying over terrain that looks just like the mainland; I had dreams of painting with light coming from my hands..its spooky. SL is like dreamtime come alive ...with money! (now that's weird...who would have thought?) A blend of RL and dreamtime that seemed impossible to contemplate as possible til now.
To convert the computer revolution into this, a place where people can create, grow and learn as well as be practical is unbelievable to me. I'm still in disarray really its all so new; and from what I hear from other people, that feeling doesn't change, you just get used to it...sort of.
And I'm beginning to think that the ultimate expression of the Modern Art movement is in 3D sculpture. Wow.

Think of how things would be if LL really was in it only for the money. There would be no open-source front end, plans for open-source back end (wow), free basic accounts, and pretty reasonable (IMO) tier fees for what we get- and there would be lots of crowing announcements that we don't see: "WE are giving YOU the customer this or that fantastic new feature!!" No, announcements from LL have a genuine tone to them, and are straightforward! On the customer service, if you were a tiny company just a couple of years ago, how do you provide customer service for 30,000 logged-on busy busy customers many of whom are breathing down your neck! With quantities griefer attacks going on, not to mention fraud attempts and everything else! Quite a logistical process to work out. LL loves us! -Fo
