Life on the bleeding edge of The Next Big Thing (3D VR, hopefully SL's 3D VR) is often though not always too much fun to be legal - but it's never dull!

In RL, we moan when the bus is late, or its raining just after we hangout the washing, a shop has just closed 10 seconds before you ran there to buy something, or when the traffic lights just turn red as you apporach... any form of delay or breakdown causes stress and frustration.
Add into the mix an internet system designed way back in the 50's and even older infrastucture in some cases. A power hungry platform such as Second Life sitting on top of an open architecture system and continously updated OS of several formats.. and the frustration is bound to grow expotentially.

Whats good about Second Life? Where else can you click a few buttons and build a structure/house/business and play out your fantasies, teleport to your friends across the other side of the world, paint with your imagination, earn a living, trade, explore your creativity, dress up in exotic clothing/outfits, become a furry/robot/opposite gender, buy so many things that make you happy for a few bucks???? Your answer is the reason you keep trying to login to get your fix.....

I must add my support to this thread too - SL is a wonderful place. I have learned more about myself and other people than I ever thought possible.

Yes - some things annoy me (like discovering last night that several folders of textures have vanished from my inventory), and I do think that there should be a bit better support considering the amount of money I spend, but I do understand that SL sits on the bleeding edge of technology, and I am grateful to be a part of it.

...and I would be SO lost without my wings... :)

I do my shar eof complaining also but the positves FAR outweigh the negatives. Sure, it could be alot better and LL is going to be in a bit of trouble when viable competition appears BUT its still the best game in town so far as I am concerned. I think most of us agree the best things are our friends. What I see too is SL can be a vehicle for worldwide communication and understanding. I have met friends from all over the world..just regular people like me and we can interact as if we are neighbors. This can be a powerful force for good.

Of the many things I like about secondlife itself... high on the list:

Residents are usually much nicer IN secondlife, than they are on its forums.

(and yes, I include myself in that)

SL is fantasic. I just take it for what it is. If there are issues I just work around them and get on with it. Every other game I have ever played had a shelf life of no longer than 3 months. SL breaks the mould IMO.

Let's play Good Cop/Bad Cop. Sign the Open Letter and then run back over here and make them feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Keep them off balance until we get what what we want.

One of the true tests of a community, is the ability to moan about things, yet gain some sense of solace, that although we moan with, they can't actaully fix many of the problems, but you can share and get it off your chest without feeling alone anymore.

It is the same during things like war, or country politics/religon/taxations etc. When the majority suffer, there is a 'tightening' of the community that removes the issolation.

It makes logging in something to look forward to. :)

Jeeez, now ya all made me feel all fuzzy inside

True, SL gave me wonderful friends whom I'll meet in rl too, and the fun I have when logged in is awesome! Sure SL has issues, but something as big as the grid is bound to have issues. So far LL worked out a lot of probs and I'm sure they're aware of the current ones we're experiencing.

*gets back to whining*

SL rocks - if it didn't why would we all go there all the time?

Where else in the world can you have an intellectual conversation with a chicken, an alien and indescribable something or other and a potato?

I thought the chickens language was foul. As for the Neko/Ninja/Elvish/Imperial Stormtrooper ... well, they just left me speechless!

Yeah the chicken made a few poultry excuses and left

Elvish? Is that a drunken elvis impersonator?

Naff jokes aside - the point is that where else can you meet such a diverse spectrum of individuals? (except possibly in RL)

Point openly accepted Amy. I'm sure most of us agree here. Expanding on your last comment though, SL gives many, many of us the motivation to socialise to an extent would be unheard of in RL.

Hmmm *ponders* That is true...

*turns to Bilbo*
Here Bilbo, try our local snapps... It is called "Twents Kruidenbitter". No, there is almost no alcohol in it
*Keeps her hand over the 30% alcohol on the label*

I like Schnapps ... I have (admittedly a little hazy) memories of swigging a bottle of Schinken Hagen with a chum I visited in Germany some years back.

Bad luck girls .. try harder! <runs away giggling>
